Knew a guy who worked at a blockbuster. When they closed doors here in Canada, he lost his job but walked home for a fuck tonne of PS2, PS3, and 360 games. I dont even think he owned all 3 consoles but certainly got himself a pretty epic stash for later re-sell.
I loved going to Blockbuster as a kid in the 90s and renting video games. I honestly think the company may have survived the early 2000's if they quickly adopted a monthly pass rather than making people pay-per-rental. Blockbuster had a streaming service in the works, but the technology was not quite there.
No... unfortunately, brick-and-mortar retail is dying, and especially for something you can stream at home for cheap. It would be done no matter what because of tech.
Just a little correction. There were just about 4400 stores in the U.S. The nine thousand stores included those in other countries as well. The two thing that really killed Blockbuster was the DVD and streaming. Without the DVD, Walmart would not have been able to compete with them. Netflix would not have created a VHS-by-mail service, and Redbox would not have space for all the movies in their kiosks.
Why I know GameStop is a horrible company e.g.( arguing with fans on twitter) but there's so many good people that work in GameStop that would be out of a job
What do you mean "product"? Like made? As in they're parents having sexual intercourse while watching a movie from Blockbusters? Is that a thing people do? Fuck while watching movies?
I’m 17 so I’m not as old as some people who got to enjoy blockbuster for too long, but I do remember blockbuster being a part of my childhood in the early 2000s. My mom would pick me up from school on a Friday, we’d order food from a restaurant and pick it up, then we’d go to blockbuster to rent some movies or a show. That was the definition of a good day for me. I still miss blockbuster, but that’s business, I guess.
I remember Ritz video , and how I loved my local video rental store till blockbuster moved in and my beloved video choices store had to close , now it's blockbuster who is closing
The Wasilla, Alaska store will be closing soon, leaving just 7 in the US (5 in Alaska and 2 in Oregon). The only other country with any Blockbusters in Australia, which has no more than 10.
I'm surprised GameStop is still around today. They've got overpriced gadgets and stuff (at least where I come from) and wtf is a 'disc'? It's 2017. You can buy everything online
Blockbuster video started an online movie store earlier this year. It has the same purpose as ITunes and TH-cam's movie services. You create an account on Blockbuster's in your country with (.com for example), then you purchase the movie and you can watch it forever with your account. I don't use Blockbuster to buy movies digital, I use TH-cam and I watch and purchase movies there sometimes. I still prefer having a physical format to be watching movies, and I don't watch movies often enough to consider paying for a monthly subscription, not even a yearly subscription. I watch maybe 3 to 7 movies a year, so that's why I use TH-cam movies or I'll by a DVD or BluRay.
I know that they had to do that and I would not even go there if it was still open where I lived, but it's quite sad because for almost a decade I would watch movies there each Friday. And now it's all gone.
The one in my hometown is there mainly because there are little homes inside the town - most live on farms on the out skirts of town. Most have been there their entire lives meaning most of the population are from before the 90’s md have no interest in Netflix instead just sticking to their classic block buster .
We Had a west coast video down the street. This was in New Jersey. And block buster was 10 minutes away my parents would rarely drive me there. But when I got my license I use to drive myself there.
Lol I saw blockbuster stores here on Mexico City until last months of 2014 or first months of 2015. Bought a couple of psp games since they were selling all their stuff really cheap.
Netflix: hey just buy me BlockBuster: No we are a colossal company and we are doing really well *decline of BlockBuster* Netflix: Oh hey BlockBuster long time no see BlockBuster: I underestimated you....
Man Blockbuster was the best and it should still be around ,if you Think about it they killed their own business by charging a outrageous amount of yknow $$$$$ for overdue rents and that’s what killed them... just a sad ending it’s like a snake strangling it self with its own tail
The "Digital age" argument is a more infinitesimal factor than you'd think regarding Blockbuster's decline. Blockbuster died as a result of poor management and poorer investment deals, the likes of which they could never hope to pay back. Family Video is an example of a rental chain that played conservatively in the digital age, and as such, there are still hundreds of them strewn about the Midwest.
So the only Blockbuster stores that remain are located in retarded American small towns? That's a sad way to end up for what was such a prominent company in the 80s and 90s.
"....those small towns where everyone knows everyTHING" -- where are those at? Towns of geniuses? I know small townswhere everyone knows everyONE, haha. Man... choppy English. You really demolished some common phrases in this video.

HellScream I loved going there in the late 2000's
No... unfortunately, brick-and-mortar retail is dying, and especially for something you can stream at home for cheap. It would be done no matter what because of tech.
They still have Blockbuster in some small rural towns here in Oregon.
yep
Which is why I'll always live in Oregon
lol
Do they still rent Sega Genesis? If not, not interested.
and alot in Alaska
I still remember when Blockbuster was liquidating stores...they had movies for less than a dollar.
It was amazing.
Just a little correction. There were just about 4400 stores in the U.S. The nine thousand stores included those in other countries as well. can't wait to see one of these for gamestop in a few years
Stupidadi lmaoo

Some of this channel's younger viewers could easily have been the product of "Blockbuster 'n Chill."
What do you mean "product"? Like made? As in they're parents having sexual intercourse while watching a movie from Blockbusters?
Is that a thing people do? Fuck while watching movies?

The Wasilla, Alaska store will be closing soon, leaving just 7 in the US (5 in Alaska and 2 in Oregon). The only other country with any Blockbusters in Australia, which has no more than 10.
The only reason game stop is still alive is because of The switch
I'm surprised GameStop is still around today. They've got overpriced gadgets and stuff (at least where I come from) and wtf is a 'disc'? It's 2017. You can buy everything online

The one in my hometown is there mainly because there are little homes inside the town - most live on farms on the out skirts of town. Most have been there their entire lives meaning most of the population are from before the 90’s md have no interest in Netflix instead just sticking to their classic block buster .

If you watch BlackBuster Critic's video he talks about their failures in the eye of a former employee.
At 2:56 you mentioned that they didn't want their numbers to go down. They meant late fees.
Man Blockbuster was the best and it should still be around ,if you Think about it they killed their own business by charging a outrageous amount of yknow $$$$$ for overdue rents and that’s what killed them... just a sad ending it’s like a snake strangling it self with its own tail

Oh sure Nintendo, hate Blockbuster, but doesn't mind having their games at GameStop, sheesh, Nintendo is very hypocritical!!!!
protoluigi Nintendo has learned that they would lose against GameStop if they tried filing a lawsuit against them again like the did with blockbuster.
Oh I get it.
Redbox is better and way cheaper
