We have clocked 12k miles in a year and the more we drive it the more we love it! We just got back from the Ford Performance St experience in UTAH and what an amazing time that was! I have to say that we take hp and speed for granted nowadays but lets look at the numbers 5.1 0 to 60 and a 13.8 quarter out of a nearly 5000# 3 row family hauler is bad ass!! When you lite this thing up on the highway it never stops pulling, its a blast to drive! It was awesome on the Autocross and through the winding mountains. You asked if its worth the price? I got my st new for 52, I love it.. Gets great gas mileage, drives itself on the highway, massaging seats, tons of space.. plus once you tune these they’re pretty insane.
I think this was a awesome review, you gave us all of the information about the vehicle, driving impressions no negatives just good information and I can't forget Lori doing a great job behind the camera
I’ve got my Skittles I’ve got my Twinkie’s I even have an IBC Root Beer 🍺 and a zonk to wash it all down with. It’s definitely time for some Raiti’s Rides. Love all the reviews Joe. Thanks for bringing em.
Hey Joe great review! From what I understand the reason behind the unique exhaust is to keep the pipes from looking dirty over time. I like the exhaust for that very reason especially for washing & detailing.
Excellent review Joe! This Suv has now moved to Top of my possible Suvs to purchase as a busy 9-5 baseball Mom. I secretly love sport performance on SUVS. But that aside,I think price is a bit high in comparison to Telluride or others in its class. Unless! the good high end quality parts in this SUV are reason for 57k😳. I also need to test drive it and see how I like the ride. Definitely got to put on my high end thick tread tires i always use that really add to comfort of my SUVS. but I love you accessed it first. As you a prior formula 1 driver, if im correct. I totally trust your thoughts and take on each vehicle you vett. I like the zonk on no plug in for tech in third row. Come on Ford! Aside from that this ST is looking like a beauty. Performance and all. AWESOME video. Keep em' coming! 😁
17:26 It looks like you have a ton of head room in the third row, especially for a tall guy. They probably should have propped the seat bottom up a few inches.
Those Back Pockets could probably fit my drawing tablet. If I'm bored on a trip, then I'll just take out my tablet and draw. Maybe do Character Concepts as well on it.
Thanks for revisiting the ST Joe! Your zonks were dead on the money. If one of these car manufacturers were smart they would hire you as a consultant to their design team!
I just had my 21 tuned. Waiting on the whipple intercooler now. Borla Atak exhaust sounds great as well. This truck has a lot of potential but you need to spend another 5 to 10k to get it to a jeep srt level.

I totally agree. This large screen along with the big gaps are the worst thing on this. This screen has much larger bezzle and the display area is actually narrower than the smaller screen.
IMO the screen looks good, but as Joe pointed, it is so stupid that the camera image cannot be enlarged and is actually showing a smaller image than the 8" for the cameras, my sister has Platinum and the fake wood looks bad.
@@garys2157 well, my aunt is a member of the design team of this explorer. She said when the Koreans bring out Telluride and Palisade, their whole project groups were blamed by their boss. Ok so I heard something on here that it’s 4 wheel drive and then you said all wheel all the time. All wheel is all wheel 4 wheel drive means it’s in 2 wheel (rear) and you have to turn on or it’s automatically switched to 4x4. Which is it? Then the engines. The platinum has two options 3.0 and 3.3 v6. 3.0 is 365 hp 380 torque, 3.3 is the st at 400hp and 410 torque. The st has the stability control bar over the engine. Which would be 3.3. Twin turbo. My parents just bought one today but we can’t find the cars facts. 2021 platinum exploder unknown if it’s st or not. I will have to find the turbo(s)
Great vehicle, my dad isn’t a fan of the fact it switched to a unibody in 2011 and they got rid of the V8’s for it. We have a 2006 Eddie Bauer Explorer and its on its last leg. We love Fords and thanks Joe for the great videos and reviews.
Purchased a used 2020 Platinum over the ST in March, with 25K on the clock. It does have some valid "zonks" as Joe put's it, but overall it fits our needs. Just made a round trip drive from New England to FLA, and the comfort and power was a plus! Would never buy these new though. In fact my last new vehicle purchase is still in my driveway; 2005 4X4 F150 Lariat.
Good amount of performance, but not the best. Love the colour! Does the good outweigh the zonks, I wonder. Tons of twinkie storage, so that's a plus. 3rd row should be a dealer delete option. Thank you for all you do, Lori!
I love the fact that you know what you're talking about when it comes to "on throttle" stats and performance! REFRESHING! That said, I just traded in my 2020 ST because to me, it just isn't worth the high price tag 60k with this lackluster interior. Step it UP Ford, put Sync 4 in the Explorer and fix that super small back up screen PLEASE! People who own this vehicle are having major problems with the interior ( especially the seats) ripping and deteriorating. Once again, Ford- step it up. Driving this ST is super fun and with a price drop or an upgrade in the interior should fix things, IMO. The good news? I got a great trade in price for my ST so all is good.
One of the reasons I didn’t buy the Explorer was because of the taillight design ! They need to be a wrap around design. Hood prop is a great zonk Joe. Enjoying your reviews Joes
This generation has grown on me liked the 1998-2001 generation around that time. This new one might better than Durango Hellcat take a Explorer over Durango a beautiful SUV wasn't fond of styling now think it's worth great performance and to buy.
First thing i would do is have the front Ford badge sprayed flat black or gloss black vinyl and de-badge the "Explorer" off the hood. And it looks like they just put a large iPad in the middle for the info-tainment screen!
