If anyone is heavily considering this vehicle, then I have to give my 1000% recommendation. I have the 2022 ST in all black and not only is it a remarkably gorgeous vehicle, it also happens to be exceptionally livable. If anyone has specific ownership questions I'd be happy to answer.
I have the 2022 ST in all black without the moon roof (none available), and I agree it's a remarkable vehicle, & in sport mode it's definitely got the power!

I have an ST around 21k miles. It’s been tuned the whole time and it’s been awesome!! $50k range, 22 mpg on the highway, drives itself, High 3 Second 0-60, Dip into the 11’s with a few mods. Downsides.. 10r60 transmission, Terrible Exhaust from the turbos back. Other than that no issues with mine and it’s been great

The V6 ecoboost on that ST just doesn't really sound good with aftermarket exhausts. Too ricey. I really wanted one but after owning a bunch of V8 i decided to keep my ST stock.
I have a 2021 Explorer ST in black. I still love it and look back at it every time I get out! I think at this price point, it’s the best 3 row SUV with performance. You also get to visit the Ford Performance Racing School which is very cool. Love your video’s Joe!
I love all generations Exploders. As a Ford Master Tech they make me ALOT of money . I love that Ford still hasn't addressed the Cam Phasers and Turbochargers. Keep it up Ford I need a steady flow of income.
I've had explorers in my family for all of my life/childhood, im 29 now, we've never had any issues that people have brought up. I still have my '98 with the Eddie Bauer trim. Shes got 202k miles on her and still runs STRONG.
I bought in May of 21 a new 2021 Carbonized Gray ST with the Panoramic moon roof and roof rack delete. Performance brake and 21" wheel package as well. 21's did not offer the rear middle center seat but mine has the digital controls for the back seat passengers and a center console mounted on the floor between the seats. I went with a ZFG 93 octane tune and FV intercooler, Turbosmart BOV and JLT catch can. Looking at H&R springs and wheel spacers next. After 21k miles it has run like a top with zero issues. I do have the dreaded 3 bolt rear end carrier though so that may need to be addressed by Ford in the future.

16:40 that blank plate is actually a recall, i work at a ford dealership so ive done a few of these. Im not sure why they didnt put them in out of the factory.
Excellent presentation for a beautifully functional SUV. As my family is now grown I see this as a long drive, high performance vehicle with enough room for my bike on the (inside) of the vehicle. My perfect garage would be this Ford Explorer ST alongside a Mustang GT 500. Pure nirvana if you ask me! 😊
Looked at an Explorer ST and ended up with a Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve. Like the look of the ST but a few things were a problem, worthy of zonks. Big slow touchscreen, vertically mounted. Build quality was absolutely brutal, very loosely put together, severely underbraked, and dated UI. Also, you have to deal with Ford dealerships which where I live (western Canada) are absolutely brutal. The Jeep felt way better built, great seats and tech, though the 5.7L (while fun) is not as quick as the V6 ecoboost.
Where is the front passenger airbag? I have been trying to find out about that online and through dealers, but I can't find any information; no dealer has yet to give me the information. The reason I will likely get the 2023 JGC Summit (without the passenger screen), is because of the passenger screen's electronics in relation to the airbag (if it exists). If you know, please respond! Thanks!!
It’s got the same size brakes as the jeep… and the pads are upgraded from regular explorers. I agree on the screen orientation. For some reason all the explorers have that odd alignment issue with the center stack.
Great stuff Joe. Love the Explorer. I agree with you on the infotainment system. Should be landscape. Give me a King Ranch though. Thanks for bringing it to us.
Just got the 2023 Rapid Red and I love it! I have some plans for mods but frankly, it's enough just stock. It's everything that's been said. Most of the negative comments I've read on You Tube is just chatter from Ford haters. It has problems but tell me what brand or car doesn't and I'll trade it right in for that wonder car! 😁 Thanks for a comprehensive review!
We love our 22 ST. Forgot to mention both front bucket seats have a great massage feature and kick under trunk to open and close. Do agree with other comment as to how I hate how people slow down in front of me thinking we’re a cop lol. Night ST exterior light is a nice touch too.
Not anymore they don’t…ford is no longer building them with massage seats, foot activated lift gate or rear seat controls due to supply issues. That’s why in his video the cutout is there for the rear seat controls but no controls. Ford promises to install later when parts become available but I highly doubt some serial numbers will ever have massage seats. Planning to wait to order mine until those components return to availability.
Just passed 25K miles on my 2021 Black ST that has all options including massage seats up front heated and cooled. Gone on 1,000 mile trips with my adaptive cruise control and everyone thinks it’s a police vehicle Ohhh how about the ST logos at night when you click open, the B&O sound system ? Only minor issue is side traffic warnings is weak I love this ride, it flies!
Love your review!! I'm seriously thinking about getting a 2025 ST. Questions: 1) would you get the rear wheel drive only or the all wheel drive option? And why? 2) Any recommendations on the 2025 "Build and Price" Ford format to consider? 3) Been thinking about (6) six passengers only with Captains Chairs on the 2nd Row, not seven. Your thoughts? 4) Any other thoughts/comments? I plan to special order; just wish the interior was not onyx!!
I wanted one of these, but saw all the transmission problems and chickened out. I still love the way they look. For the price, the performance is hard to beat.
The Explorer was the top selling SUV in the mid size class for Q2. Obviously customers like the Explorer even with your Zonks. I found the ST an amazing SUV. I'm not a fan of sunroofs because they cost to much and reduce head room. The rear controls were removed due to the chip issue. The 3rd row in Mid size SUV normally stay flat unless needed for the rare times you have extra passengers. If you need 3 rows. Buy an Expedition. The Explorer ST was around $58,000. Isn't the Audi SQ7 around $87,000
Got my ST on order,...right now sitting on the line at Chicago Assy. Strike delay. Saved money, went with 20in. wheels, 400A pkg. Horizontal screen. 21's ride like crap.
Over the yearsI have seen people including my father go through hell with their Ford Explorer there so unreliable it’s ridiculous , and that’s a shame because it’s a nice looking vehicle and I would definitely buy one if it was not for the reliability .
I just left Walker Ford with my completely fixed up 2013 Explorer... the Ford Protect Warranty is a good buy if you dont want to pay for repairs down the road...
I know someone who has this exact one, she says its like driving a sports car. Does not like driving it in the snow, it's always trying to "outsmart" her. I got the feeling its not for a rural person who lives out in the country. And really doesn't like the car's computer to be constantly trying to outhink you. Oh well, thats quite the pricetag but someone may like all that...
Good looking truck!! I'll keep my 2018 XLT that I picked up last August. I'm very happy with the 3.5 Non-Eco Boost motor and the option package on my truck. I'm surprised the panoramic roof wasn't part of the 58k sticker!! Glad mine has it!!
Test drove an ST a year or so ago. Too many zonks for me and you touched on them all. Another one for me was road and wind noise in the particular one I drove. Come on Ford...
All these midsize suv has flaws but the Explorer ST is reliable in a sense than the imports...on throttle whoosh 💨💨💨💨💨💨thanks Joe and Steve..p.s. maybe you can put a custom exhaust setup 😊
3 things that will make the explorer st BETTER. 1. The screen needs to be horizontal, looks funny vertical. Like the 12” screen from the transit. 2. Hide the wiper underneath the spoiler. 3. Add sunroof or panoramic sunroof.
Love my explorer, but it needs a tune. In any mode when u step on the throttle it wont down shift to the lowest gear u can go to. I will hit the throttle and then just a splitnsec later hit the paddle shift down and it grabs a lower gear and really takes off.
Joe, please keep doing what you are doing. You are the best in the business. BTW - If I could make one suggestion? This is just a thought. Perhaps, carry a bag of golf clubs to each of your reviews, then toss em in the cargo area of the vehicles you review. For me, if my clubs don't fit well in the vehicle, it's a non-starter. BTW - Love it when we see twinkies in the interior cubbies. Perfect for size comparison. This car can fit 8 twinkies, but this one holds 12... Love it. 👍👍
Love my Explorer ST. On my 2nd one, but it doesn’t come without issue. Was in the shop for about 4 weeks waiting for a new transmission after failure with only 750 miles on the Odo
Great video! It was fun comparing this ST to my wife's 2020 XLT. I agree with you in that portrait screen, hers is landscape not sure what size but big enough for me and that gives you a second little cubby that's perfect for a cell phone (though I did launch my phone into the shift dial once and knocked it into neutral while trying to merge into traffic, that was pretty scary). I wonder why the mid seat ac controls are deleted on the higher model. Hers has them and a sunroof too! What I wish hers had is the memory settings on the power seats. I'm a foot taller than her and whenever I drive I have to move the seat back before I get in otherwise I can't get my knees in 🤣 hers also only has manual 3rd row folding instead of the one touch power but that's not too big of a deal
As for the 3rd row, my older son loves hanging out back there to get away from his little brother but to each their own. I guess I was the same riding around in the 3rd row of my parents 98 expedition (Eddie Bauer) away from my 2 sisters, but as I got taller in my teens I had to sit with my legs to the side
Another thing is hers doesn't have the 360copilot and with the landscape screen, the backup cam is full screen and probably bigger than the view of that ST
I have a 2021 Cadillac XT6 Premium Luxury and would love for it to be sporty. This 2022 Explorer ST seems like good alternative between size/performance/amenities to the XT6. I just wish the XT6 offered a trim that could perform like this ST with a 0-60 time of 5 seconds as well. Thanks for the review!
The exhaust tips are like that so that the aluminum stays clean without the dark / dirty discoloration that these all get. I noticed some cars are better. I had a BMW that seemed to use higher grade aluminum, it was a lot easier to make look shinny again (kind of like a cheap BBQ vs expensive one).
The previous explorer has a bad problem with stinking up the interior if you floor the accelerator pedal. The downward routed exhaust tips on the current gen are part of the fix.
@@Cgee3 Ok, Car and Driver had the following remarks. Maybe they did it for carbon monoxide reasons as well and just didn’t want to say that. From Car and Driver: Ford confirmed what we suspected all along: That it's a move to prevent soot buildup on the exhaust outlets. Modern direct-injection gasoline engines tend to gunk up their exhaust outlets with black soot, like a thick layer of brake dust. This is why many modern vehicles wear fake exhausts. The Volkswagen Group and General Motors are particularly egregious offenders-just look at the latest VW Golf hatchback and nearly any Buick model.
Love these explorers, but I can’t get myself to buy one because I’d get slowed down by traffic because they’ll think I’m a cop haha
You are absolutely right. It happens to me lol I got a Black Sport: with a roof rack, and tinting throughout,,....and people always slow down whenever I am behind them. Have this ST… Carbonized Gray… AWD… moonroof… MINUS the ugly large vertical center screen. Steering wheel feels awesome. Bought in May 2022. Love it.
One thing that would be nice is if the interior ambient lighting would change with the instrument cluster setting. That would be 😎
That is a very good point!
Hi sir, would you please make a review on GMC Canyon AT4x? watching and subscribed from Dubai, UAE. More power, God bless you!
You the man, Joe! Awesome fast explorer!
Thanks for letting me bring it to you
Got one , one year backup 360° camera and sensor All broke down needed new one .
My ‘25 black Ford Explorer ST just took delivery! I’ll be going to the dealership tomorrow so stoked!!!!
Oh, yes it’s AWD highly recommend (I live in Michigan) I have 33k miles on my ‘22 ST it drives like a dream considering what it is
I drive one (Interceptor) at work for my job. Blacked out with lights and siren. Thinking of getting one for my personal car.
this man's sarcasm makes me laugh 😂
I’m shocked that $58k doesn’t get pano roof. I have a 21 ST in black, no roof rails. And I have the pano roof, massage seats, etc….
Got 20 and have it loaded.. got it for 50k
I stayed away from the Explorer based partly on the inferior taillight design and the paint color of the shark fin antenna ! Loved all your Zonks Joe.
I wanted one of these, but saw all the transmission problems and chickened out. I still love the way they look. For the price, the performance is hard to beat.
What did you get instead?
I think it’s the 10 Speed automatic so it should be good
This is my favorite Ford Performance SUV.
Great job with your reviews as always Joe.
Do they make another ?
Raiti: the point of the gaps are for easy uninstalling of the center console and dash. To get to all that electrical back ther:)
Loving it. I used to have 15 explorer sport.which is a predecessor.
Mine is well worth every penny.
Grand Cherokee L: “work harder!Ford!where is your V8!?”
Why? With tune and bolt on people are making 600-700 awhp
Ford spent their research dollars on bribing joe biden
Another great video.🙂👍 I saw you looking at the highway patrol but he was taking a nap so was not paying attention to you!!! 👍
what's the difference in engine and performance between the ST and the cop versions, anyone know?
Got my ST on order,...right now sitting on the line at Chicago Assy. Strike delay. Saved money, went with 20in. wheels, 400A pkg. Horizontal screen. 21's ride like crap.
Over the yearsI have seen people including my father go through hell with their Ford Explorer there so unreliable it’s ridiculous , and that’s a shame because it’s a nice looking vehicle and I would definitely buy one if it was not for the reliability .
Yeah they are junk. Interior is just a big heap of cheap plastic, even on Platinum and ST trims.
I had a 99 sport that had 30k miles and would stall randomly starting it. Nobody could find out why. Never owned an explorer since.
@@pobster88j94 Damn! That's crazy!
Sunroof and back ac rotate nob are optional.
You option for it online. I had mine added when I built it online before it was delivered.
Good review.
It should be standard. Thanks for watching!
I just left Walker Ford with my completely fixed up 2013 Explorer... the Ford Protect Warranty is a good buy if you dont want to pay for repairs down the road...
That is so awesome James!
Ford make great truck's to buy number one 😂😂😂😂 great job you do showing them stay safe keep up the good work 😀
Good looking truck!!
Man I got my 2022 Ford Explorer St and love it! I come from mustangs and f150s and let me tell you what that St is the best I’ve ever had like drake
Joe really getting excited with this vehicle. Spat all over the seat 17:04.
3 things that will make the explorer st BETTER.
1. The screen needs to be horizontal, looks funny vertical. Like the 12” screen from the transit.
2. Hide the wiper underneath the spoiler.
3. Add sunroof or panoramic sunroof.
Those are some very good points Kevin!
Love it. 👍👍
I can instantly tell when Laurie isn't producing these as soon as it starts lol! There's just no matching her passion and Love for these!
Love my Explorer ST. On my 2nd one, but it doesn’t come without issue. Was in the shop for about 4 weeks waiting for a new transmission after failure with only 750 miles on the Odo
Thanks for bringing that to us both. R2D2 said the third row was fine.
Chip issues is why they're aren't any mid seat climate controls. They are supposed to install em at a later date.
@@ryan_torres I figured that probably had something to do with it
The tips are like that so all the exhaust soot doesn't build up on them from the GTDI Engine....
Saw a ‘23 explorer Chinese or Japanese version. Interior is much better w/huge lateral screen. Wait for the ‘23s.
2023 will be the same; no change
great work. I look forward to your insights on the new 2023 ST
Great video Im a big fan on the channel keep it up and that explorer got some power
great color and much better with the mid row as a bench than captain seats if you have a family
Very good point!
Its all preferences, but for me this car is soooooo good..
I have 2 of these in white and black. 1 2020 for wife and 1 2021 for me.
Was about to buy one and was like wait need to peep ur video if approve then it’s worth it
Borla Exhaust is waving 🙋♂️
Great review Joe (as always!) I just hate how they’re marked up near where I live. Already a bit overpriced as-is, let alone above sticker.
I just got one in white. I love it. I have the panoramic sunroof.
Raiti! Don't forget that Ford had the Saleen XP8 Explorer with a supercharged 5.0L.
Hey Joe, I don't know why I laughed when you said bottom splitter area 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🙊🙊🙊🙊
That was my second choice. The fit and finish of the Cadillac is leaps and bounds better than the Ford.
short answer, hell yes
Great review!!!! Waiting your comments on the Ford Bronco Heritage!!!!
Stay tuned Federico.
There's a guy TH-cam beating hellcats and trackhawks with this thing it's tuned with some upgrades it's no joke
I love it Joe and Lori and keep up the good work and I love the video lot real true 👍
Thanks for you watching and your inpyt!

As long as they cook, that's all that matters.
