I’m planning on becoming an EMT and one thing that’s been stressing me out is what kinda of strength I’ll need and what weights I’ll be exposed to that I’ll have to carry ( being a 5’1 female that’s terrifying) I work out almost daily but I definitely needed this video to really focus in on what to train. Very helpful!!! Also you look 30 wtf
Hey Gigi, I have a program for you that will help get you started and help teach you to functionally train for the job. Go to www.FireRescueFitness.com/contact and send me a message...
Don’t let your mindset about your size hold you back. I’ve been in EMS for 3 years (such a long time right? Haha), and some of the best partners I’ve had match your exact description. EMS always comes down to teamwork, you’re not going to be lifting the 750 lb patient into the back of the truck by yourself, as a 6 foot ex offensive lineman I couldn’t even do that. So definitely keep yourself in good shape, but don’t let your internal apprehensions get the best of you, you’ll do great.
I dropped my internship for the EMT/EKG course my school offers... I'm a high school student and the instructor told us we would be on runs with actual EMTs... AHAHAhaha I'm not in the greatest shape for that 😭.
I’ve been on a workout plan for about a year that’s a lot of HIIT training on the stairs and weights. Usually three days a week weights, three days a week core and cardio. I feel like my cardio and core is great to translate to the fire ground, but I want to change up the weight training to more functional fitness. Right now it’s chest/triceps, back/biceps, legs/shoulders. It does build strength, but not super functional. I have my second fire academy coming up in June (hopefully) and I want to make a change. Do you have functional weight training programs with a weekly schedule or anything like that? Thank you sir.
Hey Jim you have a great base and program started. I do have a program you can try. Send me a message zam@firerescuefitness.com and I will get you on our FRF app. I look forward to helping. ZAM
