Here's how to make self rising flour.
1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1-1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Make sure the ingredients are evenly distributed.

Thank you, I was wondering how to turn all purpose flour into self rising flour.

  • @mollymollie6048

I have never mastered the art of the southern biscuit…usually greasy and not fluffy…and I’m good at baking, can make a mean pie crust, etc…maybe it’s just not growing up the in South, lol. If you don’t have self-rising flour, add 1 ½ tsp of baking powder and ½ tsp salt per 8oz (1 cup) of all purpose flour. Also, if you have plain vinegar, you can use that to turn regular milk into buttermilk (cause whenever I buy it, most of it winds up going bad before I use it)…do an internet search for the ratios/time (it doesn’t take much time.) I also save the grease from good meat and keep in in the freezer. My husband saves the bacon grease, but I don’t use it as much as chicken fat because it has a definite bacon taste that I don’t necessarily want to add to what I’m cooking…and I love bacon!! Mr. Molly cooks up a ton of bacon and stores in it the fridge, it lasts a week to 10 days with no issues…(I can’t say just how long it lasts, 10 days is the longest it’s lasted!!!) Bacon is something you don’t have to have a LOT of to give something a lot of flavor…mac and cheese with bacon crumbled in, crumbled on salads, multiple soups with bacon crumbles, ‘loaded baked potatoes’ in soup, normal, mashed form, bacon and egg sandwiches, BLTs…I’m starting to sound like Bubba from Forest Gump, lol. If anyone is new to cast iron, it holds heat like no tomorrow, and makes things taste so good…but keep that heat low, or you will burn everything up (and also look up how to clean your cast iron, NEVER put it in the dishwasher.) Edited to add: (although I’m seeing this way late, but we are drowning in zucchini in our garden at this time of year, so…) Cube up zucchini and use in a stir fry with onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, you can add some meat and serve over rice (or no meat.) Zucchini cut into strips about the size of a steak fry, put in egg batter, then bread crumbs…deep fry, put parmesan on, then dip in marinara sauce (with or without meat.) There’s also a chocolate cake recipe from back in the day (I don’t have it) that uses shredded zucchini in it to make it so moist and delicious!!! The zucchini dissolves and you don’t see or taste anything but an amazing chocolate cake (the kind in a Bundt pan…no idea where to find that, but I’m going to hunt for it again!)

i too save the baking grease as I use it to cook with as well. i also save the drippings from any meat I cook and i will use it for cooking as well. As a tip if you are cutting biscuits using a biscuit cutter, do not twist as it will seal the edges and then your biscuit won't rise.

    • @mollymollie6048
      @mollymollie6048 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MamaToAll_Homestead Thank you! I probably twist the cutter…I do know to leave that dough be and not mess with it much…I didn’t think about twisting. I also used real butter the last time I tried (and failed) and should have just used Crisco like my mother taught me. My husband is from the south and he says to use lard, and I’m fine with doing that…I just forget to get it (it’s way cheaper than Crisco and neither of us have cholesterol problems so I’m not worried about it.) Thanks for the tip!!! I had no idea!!! I’m good with a lot of bread baking and pie crust…but a fail at biscuits. I shall try that!!! Thank you!!!

Yes we always had bacon grease gravy and biscuits because our neighbor gifted us their drippings they had 2lbs. Of bacon every day. For mom too trade of sewed items. And yes had wild meats smothered squirrels or rabbits, mashed potatoes home grown and home grown green beans or corn . Because we were a family of 9. They if by chance others popped in mother would stretch the gravy and boil more potatoes and add and extra quart of green beans. Out of her 9 sisters and one brother he would join dad and hunt the game . And other times we would eat at aunt Hester' s house Chile or chicken & noodles with us girls helping roll out and cut the noodles. And she used 5 gallon pots. And a big pickle jar full of ice tea. Those were the good old days were you could visit and play games outside.

For the beef brisket -if you have a slow cooker/crock pot, put it in the crock pot when the meat is thawed and pour over one to two bottles of your favourite barbeque sauce. If y'all like onions - cut some onion and throw it into the pot as well. Cook for 6 hours or longer. It will shred nicely. If y'all don't like barbeque a couple of cans of cream of mushroom soup with cut up onions and sauteed mushrooms will be nice too.

    • @mollymollie6048

Works well with regular broth, some onions, garlic and soy sauce (soy sauce doesn’t make it taste Asian.) But, if you want it to taste Asian, a soy/ginger/sesame or Teriyaki (if you like sweeter) is a great thing to slow cook it in as well!

Make cheesy twice baked potatoes soup. I try diced bacon bits in the bottom of my pan and 2 diced onions then add diced potatoes just too brown them lightly then add just enough water too cover cook till tender . Then 15 minutes before they are done make a butter rue add cream or milk then add cheese and stir with a whisk till smooth then slowly add the the potatoes stir constantly with your wooden straight bottom scrap till thick and not sticking. But for best flavor of all season your stock pot on the open fire outside. Yes it does make a huge difference in the flavor. My husband's friends at work said my potato soup was better then the beef house restaurants soup. And loved my homemade chicken salad and chicken and noodles and porkloin roast with potatoes carrots and onions. They were good soul and took up a collection for each meal.

I season brisket like a roast and cook it low and slow . So I put lawreys , pepper, onion powder , garlic powder and half a envelope of Au Jus . You can replace that with beef bouillon . Add beef broth or water about halfway up side of brisket . I bake it in a covered Dutch oven or roaster pan or cake pan covered with foil . Oven set on 325 to 350 for several hours . Bake until it’s tender . Yummy !! Granny would add sliced zucchini to fried potatoes sometimes!!! When your potatoes are almost done add the zucchini. It cooks really quick so that’s why you wait . I had to reassure him that yes sir I got plenty ( 6 bags plenty) plus we received lots of clothes at that one to. It’s definitely a blessing.

Wow, judgemental much???? Did you ever think they had the nice kitchen before they hit hard times? Think before you speak.

Just now seeing this comment. Thank you, and you are most certainly correct, we've had and made this kitchen prior to hitting hard times.

Is there a particular reason you think it's ok to get so many free things? If l was in a position where l needed the generosity of others, l certainly wouldn't brag about it on TH-cam. Sad.

Is there a particular reason you think it is ok to judge what her household needs and feel the need to leave your snarky comment using you tube.....
That is what is sad. If you do not like it move on no one is forcing you to watch anything here.

Hey thank you for showing others that no matter what there will always be ugly in this world and I’m going to show them that unlike you I will not let ugly stop me. First off you have no right to judge. Am I bragging? No I’m not i am trying to show others that food banks are out there to help us out and to not be ashamed to go to them. We all need a helping hand at some point in our life and it was actually another TH-cam channel that shares what they receive at food banks that gave me the courage to attend a food bank. This is all about breaking the stigma of food banks… by me sharing what I have received at my local food bank it shows others that you will actually receive some very useful items and then I like to share how I use these items in meals. So I hope that you will take the time to look in the mirror and look deep within yourself and evaluate yourself. The only person you should be judging is yourself. I hope you have a blessed day

@@MamaToAll_Homestead Good Girl! There is absolutely no shame in using any legal means necessary to put food on the table for your family. We have the stigma all wrong in this country, the stigma should be on those who either won't go and let themselves or their family members go hungry or spend money on other unnecessary things instead of using their money to feed their families. Those are the ones who should feel the sting of stigma.
I would add another type of person to that list of people who should feel stigma regarding food banks and it is those who hid behind a phone or computer and criticize a hard working mom for doing what she needs to in this inflation driven economy......that is also where the stigma belongs.
Hope you have a great day and feel encouraged by the rest of us that you are doing great, mama😉
