He's done an incredible job at creating a mysticism around himself to the point where I desperately want to find some candid moments of Nathan just being Nathan.
I feel like Nathan’s probably so super nice. This is actually his personality but it’s so monotone and “deadpan” that he made it into a character that you question. His smile is so genuine. Ugh I’m like in love with him
Ceren K just look at this interview here as reference. The interviewer shat on his own thing because of Nathan’s success and Nathan defended that completely unprompted, saying that’s not fair the interviewer or to the crew, that the work they’re doing is plenty valuable. I think little off the cuff moments like that are good examples of how someone is in real life. In this case it seems to be for the good.
It's hilarious how some people are expressing "he's a normal human being" but simultaneously others are saying "so his TV persona is just how he is all the time"
The interviewer seemed very excitable and almost keen to laugh at everything. I think its probably the most raw natural thing Nathan's done that I've seen so far.
I didnt see that, sorry. Should I remove the original comment or maybe edit it to reflect its like a pointless answer? I could leave my email, then we can discuss it so people can not read our adresses and stuff. What is your email?
+- “GRM” Sorry, I'm not really comfortable leaving my personal email address anywhere on the Internet. Thanks for the kind and rational response though.
No problem my friend. I will research a good way to encrypt our messages so only we will understand your email-adress, while all other who read this will not. I will return when I have a good solution. (edit: I may take many years when I think about it, I hope you check daily for reply!) @@hambonefakenamington69 towards the beginning you could see Nathan putting on the character and then towards the end he was laughing more and talking more naturally
These courtyards are sort of strewn across the metropolitan Los Angeles area. And there quite an interesting history as to why that is the case. In 1965, a German architect of the Bauhaus school of design landed a position in a venerable Los Angeles development and construction consulting business Steward and Sons headquartered in Downtown Los Angeles at the time. His name was Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher and his contribution to the urban landscape was to advise architects and construction companies to add a courtyard to their projects reminiscent to the kind he would spend his afternoons in Stuttgart. The courtyards would always be in the center of the site as an ode to the values of the Bauhaus design ethos of the centrality of equanimity.
I feel like the entire reason I watched this was to read your comment. At once thoughtful and thought-provoking. Also, it adds quite a lot to this interview. Good stuff. Thank you!
I like to look at him like jim Carrey. Practiced their craft so much to the point it became them. Jim would practice his over exaggerated facial expressions and mannerisms to the point that was his true personality. Same with Nathan. Awkwardness let’s him thrive and be comfortable so he embraces it
@onmy computer2020gal I don't know him personally but I'd say it's probably a niche he fell into- I think he's probably like this all the time. I mean, he's definitely awkward and monotone by nature but I think he did the best with it by pushing it even further to make people feel more comfortable. I'd say it's like Gilbert Gottfried or Ben Stein- using traits people would normally find annoying to the extreme in order to turn them around to their advantage.
Seem like he’s in a situation with a person he had known for a long time, then there’s no option to be rude and awkward while still acceptable, so seem like he’s genuinely confused a little there.
Wow, he seems much more akward in real life than I thought he was. I honestly imagine he's a totally relaxed person, and just a brilliant actor who plays an incredibly akward version of himself
Wow, I feel this is Nathan being pretty much exactly how he is IRL. A rare document, seeing how he always plays an (outrageously) exaggerated version of himself...
My goodness. Welp, it really says something about Nathan Fielder's character that he would do this. Good luck to you, Mr. Shobiz (Good grief, that name!)
Apparently you can see it on the DVD special Features. Bobby Moynihan talked about it as well on a Podcast. It's interesting because he had the same feeling, thinking it was his fault and not Nathan's that the scene was cut. So they're both blaming it on themselves. He talks about it 28min in: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/04-any-questions/id1494539046?i=1000465470219
how was I as your camp councilor? well you never did anything inappropriate and I know it's tempting for some councilors but you were always appropriate and fun. classic nathan.
Ever notice how deadpan comedians, or any other great comedian for that matter, never seem to leave character in interviews? I think that's because they're just always in character, because they live their comedy. Their comedic ability is just normal for them.
This is the most out of character I've ever seen Nathan, it kind of puts me off like the first time I saw Tim Heidecker breaking character. Great interview tho!
Are there any other real interviews with Nathan Fielder that aren't from late night shows or where Nathan isn't completely fucking with the person interviewing him? It's hard to come across videos of nathan being interviewed.
I have a theory that Nathan is an actual psychopath but he just doesn't like killing. He is comfortable with levels of awkwardness that shouldn't be possible. He does stuff on his show that anyone with a working conciousness would stop doing within two minutes. But luckily he is very very funny
He’s talking about his friends but Brian S Wolfe said he had none because he was the Wizard of Loneliness. Just doesn’t make any sense to me! This must be a skit.
.... OK I got to say who knows if this is real ... it might be part of an episode who knows at this point Sure it seems natural but you got to admit the guy is very talented...
He's done an incredible job at creating a mysticism around himself to the point where I desperately want to find some candid moments of Nathan just being Nathan.
Thats what brought me here too but i would say hes not playing a character at all here
Desperately seeking Nathan
Ha!!! Glad to see I’m not the only one 😅😂😂
this is Nathan Fielder
He’s pretty relaxed on The Best Show podcast
I feel like Nathan’s probably so super nice. This is actually his personality but it’s so monotone and “deadpan” that he made it into a character that you question. His smile is so genuine. Ugh I’m like in love with him

Some of the first (if only) genuine smiles and laughter I've seen from Nathan. Nice to see.

🤣😂
In school they had very affordable hash browns. And the teachers never did anything inappropriate

Nathan is adorably kind
He’s Canadian after all
So cute 🥺

Nathan seems like a really chill guy. He basically just plays himself on the show.
"(...) like I do now" I think its quite clear he refers to acting. (The persona he is improvising/playing)

So nathan is just always awkward and monotone? Or maybe he just never breaks character and is a daniel day lewis level actor
Nathan is naturally like this, but on Nathan For You or when he's "in character" he exaggerates the awkward thing for humor.
no..more like kyle mooney
