Awesome seeing you jump into Japanese games. I’ve been doing it for 2 years and love learning about the history of the games we grew up with in the US. I’m in the same boat as you also - I’ve been taking the chance on some coveted games hoping they are unopened. They can get quite pricey!

some grail pickups here! I'm really surprised how affordable some of these are considering the condition and relevance of the titles. They all look in great shape.
Poggers gaming moment, fingers crossed
Had to whistle when I saw that Silent Hill. Earlier Persona games are much tougher. Both Persona 2s got translated/retranslated, so it's a great time to try them. Just beat FF8 Remaster last week, first time trying the game, and I think everyone's first FF is their favorite (FF7 for me). DQ7 is a beast. It's the length of multiple Final Fantasy/RPGs.
Oh nice! Hopefully FF8 was at least decent for you haha, I know it's a bit of a weird game.
And ah good to hear about the personas! And yes, I've seen how long DQ7 is and even played into it for about 10 hours or so before putting it down and never returning 😥
I got MGS for Christmas. Man, blew me away. Beat in about 2 days that weekend.
No lie, I think Balamb Garden is probably my second favorite game track. First has to be the Donkey Kong Country Credits Concerto.

I’ve had to given up thinking I will play most RPGs ever again. I seriously can play to completion about one per year. There’s a reason I love games like Mario & Luigi. Nice, tightly paced, little adventure.
Yup. At this point, the 4-10 hour game experience is my optimal length. That, and mindless matchmaking in FPS for a quick fix
@@GetTheGreg Yeah.. I’ve even had to give up online games. They suck you in way too much (or they do me at least. I use to go on 5 hour benders of Gears of War).

That's an actual kanji search for "unopened, new, and sealed". You usually want to try searching for specific stuff in both English and Japanese to make sure you see all results! Takes a bit of playing with to get the hang of things!

Thanks man! Some unopened games are just very hard to find and thus have those large premiums attached. An original Final Fantasy 1 on Famicom (unopened) would be quite the grail, too.

I have the chance to get two copies of wario ware twisted sealed in pretty mint condition one for 550 cad (as clean as they come) and the other 450 cad (has one small tear at the bottom by one of the corners, about 1cm long or less. Do you think these are good prices for those Greg? I find myself a bit stuck on making a decision. I’d plan on having them graded if I get them. Would really appreciate your input here
So will someone explain to me this: I’ve always heard that the reason Japan doesn’t charge a bunch for retro games is because they, as a culture, don’t really “look back”. It’s onto the next thing with them. With that being true, why are people storing a bunch of new old stock of games? Wouldn’t they just get rid of it? It confuses me that they both hold onto it and value it so little.
Japan doesn't care too much about this graded sealed games market, and they're probably more than happy that a bunch of people from the West will take it off their hands.
Then it's up to the buyers from the West to convince everyone else that they're actually worth something. Thus begins the speculation.
@@MonotoneCards I get why they would sell what they have at some kind of inflated price. But I don’t get why they have it in the first place. On of the reasons why sealed video games in NA aren’t super common is that we liquidate stuff that doesn’t sell at cheap prices. And if it doesn’t sell then, it goes to some kind of warehouse to be dealt with. Some of it goes into storage, some of it gets destroyed, and other stuff gets sold back into the secondary market.
I didn’t think Japan followed those practices with old stock.

Okay, another question. Why the hell don’t they slap some kind of sticker on those boxed games? When they did test market NES games in NA, they had matte stickers. What, were they trying to save on money? It boggles my brain.
Just good ol' trustworthy JP culture having less overall theft than NA, perhaps?

Straight from Yahoo Japan using Buyee. And no, none of the vintage Nintendo cardboard consoles have any kinds of seals whatsoever

Man that was painful for me to watch. I had The Metal Gear Solid Premium Package mint, I didn't open the T shirt, the Cd the dog tags and everything was there with the receipt. My dad had a clear out one day and I had it no more. My hart sank when I saw the thumbnail but I had to tell my sad story 😞

Anyone know if all prints of WILD ARMS 2 In the manual if there are supposed to be blank white pages? The copy I have has 4 of them completely white 2 are back to back and the other 2 are singles? Is this a rare variant misprint or was there only 1 print of this game and they are all like that? I don’t think it’s a reproduction but I could be wrong…

Really Greg? I think the SH1 game cover in Japan is way more interesting. It’s not great or anything but it’s kinda menacing. Faint blood on tile? Better than bad CGI grey dude.
Ehhhhh, like I said, both kind of suck. Someone else actually said that the JP cover reminds them of the Saw 1 movie, which is actually a solid comparison haha
