My card was compromised whilst in Bangkok a couple weeks ago, they spent around $5,000. Fortunately I was able to get the money back through a fraud claim with my bank.

I had a wise card skimmed in Pattaya in april they drained $6000 aud in 7 transactions in a period of 3 minutes! Wise was extremely un helpful with this fraud and would not reimburse the amount! My suggestion would be keep your money in an account thats not linked to any card and just transfer the amount you need to a card 1 minute before using an atm and leave the account sit with $5 for 99% of the time!
Thanks but (wise) didn't reimburse the amout and still to this day im out of pocket 6k, was glad to have money in another account! Enjoy watching your Chanel!

Is that a Super Famicon Nintendo video game you got going on your TV? Is the Garage room your other room? Good thing the bank was looking out for your funds. Nice cool place.
Intersting, I was in New York recently and I got an alert that I had just paid for a couple of meals in Bangkok with my wise card, thankfully I emailed wise and they refunded the 8000 baht quickly. annoying though as issued a new card and I could't use the one I had in the states.
My question is, once CBDC is rolled out globally, zero cash, how are we going to pay for our girlies services, will they have to have a swipe machine then? And then imagine being ripped off by the girls and calling your bank.
only time I have been defrauded was when I used my debit card to pay for a meal at a major chain restaurant in pattaya central mall, way before there were all the other options like QR codes... I never give anyone my card anymore, and only withdraw cash from my thai bank atm's.
Same happened to me a couple years ago. I only noticed because someone was making loads of orders to Pizza Hut when i checked my online banking. I lost about £500 but got it back threw my bank
Happened to me recently and I know it was in H&M in Pattaya as I hadn`t used the card in weeks. I tapped in the pin and was then asked to do it again as it hadn`t worked, ummm. Next day there was a £430 deduction to Airbnb, I knew straight away it was fraud as I have never used Airbnb. The CC company agreed and issued a full refund. What I wondered is how they convert that into cash?
Sometimes, the company that was outsourced by your bank to manufacture the card made more than one copy of your card, in order to steal from you. For me, have your bank account number changed (or open a new one) and load a digital wallet and always pay with this. Never use your bank to pay.
This can happen anywhere really. Happened to me in Germany, Spain and the US. I actually once got money from an ATM in Bangkok on Khao Son Road. Luckily, nothing happened;-)
I experienced something Similar when Westpac took over from St George. Like one day out of the blue all my accounts were frozen. Something similar with my wife too. Bank accounts are never safe especially when you run a business and your taxes are done online.
I had my UK credit card details stolen in Thailand, not sure how and where. I got a notification that I bought goods in the US overnight. Odd, as I live in Thailand. Like you, I had to get a new card sent. However, I asked the card company to send me an OTP every time my card is used for online purchases. As this is where most of the fraud happens. Recommended you ask your card company to set it up. I got my money back, glad you did too.
This has happened to me twice. Small amounts were removed and charged to apple. I wouldn't have noticed but they got greedy and the amount got quite high. I called the local bank on both occasions and money was reimbursed. Was surprised it was so easy. Didn't ask me many questions.
This is why I do not use phone apps for banking. Although nothing is safe these days. Had an Uber driver somehow scan a card that was always in my pocket. When in Thailand I always keep my phone and cards in room and wire cash to myself for bank pick-up.
Bahahahaha this is the funniest one yet. How on God's green earth do you know it was the uber driver? Could it not be the person you walked past to get into the uber? lol
I always used the ATM at reputable hotels located inside the foyer to withdraw 10k baht out at a time. and just use cash. if you reduce the amount of attack vectors you increase your chance of keeping your money.
I use a spreadsheet to track all my monthly payments so I can anticipate future months etc but this means that every single transaction is tracked directly by me, so anything strange I am on it. I try to avoid cash machines and withdraw from the bank directly or from the post office and use that for expenses, food etc. I know I am here in the UK but this stuff still happens everywhere.
Yeah man that’s good, that account linked to my card I just use sometimes so I’m not as diligent as my main banking accounts.. just goes to show, you gotta be on top of it!
@@jackw1330 It seems that Adam's bank was OK with it, but I apologise for not saying this before, my bank notifies me as soon as there is a withdrawal so if I dont recognise it I can chase it up instantly. You have no chance if it is something you have authorised though, they are really tight on that. I will check that out though if I ever change banks.
Hey Adam. I don't know how that happened but I suggest you get a RFID blocking card to avoid people being able to scan your cards. They can simply walk by you to steal your card.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes for you to get your money back. I had money stolen from my Australian bank account on July 22 this year and was told it could take up to 40 days for them to investigate and order a refund. I finally had it refunded on October 24, that’s 92 days. Good luck
They can get you when you walk by them, read up on the scanners. That being said, you can turn off your wise card for example with your phone and turn it back on to use it then off again once done. I remember when they put the new chips in the cards it was that very day the crooks were scanning them at the Texas Airports.
If you never inserted that card inside any payment machine or ATM, then how could it be skimmed?? Were the fraudulent charges in Thailand or another country?
pretty sure the same thing was going to happen to me, went to a more shady bar in soi 6, and the lady overtly insisted that I pay with card and that they cant do cash payments, which was a big red flag for me, but I was drunk so didnt care, they pay waved the card and it said "do not honour", after I saw that I felt like they were trying to skim my card or something, so demanded to pay with cash, and they gave in, they even said there was like a 5% surge charge or something to pay with card, never heard that before at a bar in Pattaya, also used a wise card, lucky not much was on there in the first place
Well, if i have to use my card from abroad in Thailand, i only use it in an ATM inside/in front of a bank so that i have video of the transaction in the bank. I don't know how useful it would be but at least i have proof. For my thai bank account, i didn't open the online options because i use it only when i am in holidays so I usually bring cash and put it in the bank account and only take money from ATMs. There is a little "security" from this bank about skimming because their ATM are solid metal and a cheap plastic skimmer would be noticed very quickly. I would say that if in Walking street you have been skimmed, they probably target foreigner cards because i used them often with my thai card and never got any problems.
Happened to me when I got back from Thailand Was only 130$ I gt notifications to my phone on transactions and I flagged it Uber eats Australia But was a brand new card and only used in Thailand Suspect my details were stolen from a hotel in Krabi because I only used card for agoda flight transfers and a hotel in Krabi But realistically It could have been skimmed many different ways in 2023 The more I looked into it. The scarier it was. Got me on a rabbit hole of researching hotel pass security cards (used widely in Thailand) Those cards are so easy to replicate and reproduce and skim that any hotel without a deadlock was a no go in Thailand for me after that. Call me paranoid. But safety is paramount. Especially in the land of the Baht. Got re imbursed by bank a month later with no explanation as to how or why this happened
The key is to monitor your accounts regularly, so if you see unusual transactions you can put a stop to it quickly. Generally when using an ATM it's better to use one that's inside of a bank rather than one that's on the street or near a convenience store, gas station, etc.
@@keisone I've used ATMs in Bangkok and Koh Samui without any issues to date. It's the main way for me to get baht when I'm in Thailand. Yikes! I am heading to Thailand in 3 weeks for a month-long trip. Mostly I am taking cash "just because" but the thought of losing thousands of dollars by getting my card skimmed is scary!!!!
Use your phone its totally encrypted but using a card ALL your information is passed over
glad your getting your money back- at least most of it
Hope you get that money back ! :)
Bro which parts of the tracks is Ladda the lady in Bangkok?
Had that happen to me twice in the last few years. Sucks.
Wow, good for ya it will be refunded mate. Had me the same thing happen 4 years ago. Someone purchased fisihing gear in Japan with my card details for 1400 USD While i was home in europe 555. Crazy things, but the bank found out realy soon, blocked my card and phoned me to tell me what was going on. Anyhow i got a refund back then within 30 days and a new card so no probs. Surfshark is also the one i am using for a few years already, love them. And as always Adam, C Ya in the next one, cheers 👊🍻
Is that a Super Famicon Nintendo video game you got going on your TV? Is the Garage room your other room? Good thing the bank was looking out for your funds. Nice cool place.
$71.79 aud on the exact same scam, caught it quick, because i only use that card for booking hotels
2nd theft video and 10000000th education video. Would be good to just have a fun day vlog like old times
Clear reason why I would rather use cash.. they would have to physically rob me to get my money, which I assure u would not be easy
Some scammer ate well at your expense and the cost to send a replacement card is a joke as if sending a card cost the bank that much.
Hey Keis, I had the same scam here in Australia, took a little while but got my money back.
Every sentance sounds like a question, as you end it in a rising tone
Intersting, I was in New York recently and I got an alert that I had just paid for a couple of meals in Bangkok with my wise card, thankfully I emailed wise and they refunded the 8000 baht quickly. annoying though as issued a new card and I could't use the one I had in the states.
Yikes that’s a big one! Glad you got it back
My question is, once CBDC is rolled out globally, zero cash, how are we going to pay for our girlies services, will they have to have a swipe machine then? And then imagine being ripped off by the girls and calling your bank.
Uber Eats...me too. Happened in Oz though.
only time I have been defrauded was when I used my debit card to pay for a meal at a major chain restaurant in pattaya central mall, way before there were all the other options like QR codes... I never give anyone my card anymore, and only withdraw cash from my thai bank atm's.
If you have a Thai bank account why not use the QR code scan system. There is no charge and it's safe
Same happened to me a couple years ago. I only noticed because someone was making loads of orders to Pizza Hut when i checked my online banking. I lost about £500 but got it back threw my bank
ahh, you made it back to Adamus, great spot!
Yeah mine was accepted as a return in the same day, not sure how long it will take to actually get the money though!
@@keisone at least it's coming back!
This is why I do not use phone apps for banking. Although nothing is safe these days. Had an Uber driver somehow scan a card that was always in my pocket. When in Thailand I always keep my phone and cards in room and wire cash to myself for bank pick-up.
how is that possible? do you think he put something inside the car door where your pockets would be?
@@Foden5354 I was in his car. I think he may have had a reader of some sort under the seat.
Bahahahaha this is the funniest one yet. How on God's green earth do you know it was the uber driver? Could it not be the person you walked past to get into the uber? lol
@@jackw1330 Because he used my card to book a hotel room in his own name. Idiots like you are why I should stay off social media. BAHA!
@@keisone So true. I like that they got back to you so fast. Good result, apart from the charge for the new card.
Yeah that doesn't work at all. You literally have minutes to contact the bank about a fraudulent purchase on a bank card. Look it up.
You were filming right outside my Apartment building.
Ideo Riverview Charan 70, Bang Phlat.
Doing the same thing mate. Aussie living in hua hin. Banking system sucks. 1 day hopefully we can use bitcoin anywere in the world.
Yes have your main Account to send u 1/2 k max limit .
A week leave your main card Hidden or leave it in Oz ..
Hey that Est Kamikaze is crazy good right. I know not too healthy but tastes amazing.
Happened to me when I got back from Thailand
Was only 130$
I gt notifications to my phone on transactions and I flagged it
Uber eats Australia
But was a brand new card and only used in Thailand
Suspect my details were stolen from a hotel in Krabi because I only used card for agoda flight transfers and a hotel in Krabi
But realistically
It could have been skimmed many different ways in 2023
The more I looked into it. The scarier it was.
Got me on a rabbit hole of researching hotel pass security cards (used widely in Thailand)
Those cards are so easy to replicate and reproduce and skim that any hotel without a deadlock was a no go in Thailand for me after that. Call me paranoid. But safety is paramount. Especially in the land of the Baht.
Got re imbursed by bank a month later with no explanation as to how or why this happened
Hello, which card company was the scam with. Citibank?
Your card can be skimmed from your pocket. Someone just needs to get close to you. RFID blocking wallet stops this.
The key is to monitor your accounts regularly, so if you see unusual transactions you can put a stop to it quickly. Generally when using an ATM it's better to use one that's inside of a bank rather than one that's on the street or near a convenience store, gas station, etc.
Yeah, I prefer not to use the ATM’s at all here, except for cardless on my thai bank
@@keisone I've used ATMs in Bangkok and Koh Samui without any issues to date. It's the main way for me to get baht when I'm in Thailand. With my Fidelity card, I don't pay any foreign transaction fees and the local ATM fee is reimbursed to me by Fidelity so the transaction doesn't cost me anything. By the way, it's not called Transferwise anymore. They renamed themselves just Wise.
it also pays NOT TO put so much out there on TH-cam/social media regarding personal info , as there are scumbags out there that could get around this
Yeah I’m careful to never show card or personal information
Ok, keis Vpn is good.
Better still is use a phone just for calls, social media.
Different number, no banking, or personal details.
I used an Uber and booked through the official App as well must do. This was a few months ago in Arsetralia. 4 days later 1000 buks was booked up on my Visa card. How did they do that ???
If paying by card always turn the terminal over and look at the underside + check the reaction of the cashier when you do it - they are always involved in the scam. I withdraw cash from the physical bank when abroad and never lose sight of my card or passport
No....lol Use a credit card problem solved
Have you experienced such a dilemma in the Philippines?
