      It was the same for me. It is probably a design feature that is causing the problem.

      It would be interesting to get some feedback how this issue starts when you use the brush. Regularly.. my assumption was that you hold the toothbrush rotating head or it gets stuck and In that case motor cannot turn it and fuses to the brushes... But as I o don't use them difficult to figure out the scenarios when it happens...

    Very helpful, just repaired two toothbrushes with exactly the same problem: broken charging wire. One addition is really necessary however: when reassebling you should first remove the top cap. After inserting the core into the 'house' the top cap can be replaced with the help of a wrench or so.

    I thought these things were potted shut! Was useful to find that you can actually disassemble it. Thanks!
    Mine had a bearing ring of some kind break in the top, which had leaked in water and then started rusting.
    So all electronics still worked but I couldn't know until I completely destructively disassembled it.
    Oh well. New toothbrush is also nice and I know I at least tried :)

    My Pro 1000 (1 month out of warranty!) was “stuck” just as you described, and a judicious application of a hammer got it going again.

      An added note about this model. The base is much easier to remove: there is a soft rubber portion on the edge of the cap, marked by a dimple. It’s easy to press there and pry the cap up.

      This happens when you use metal instead of carbon brushes :) but I believe carbon dust could be even bigger headache.. so compromises...

  • @CASTSTONE
    @CASTSTONE 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I 've been using this tooth brush for 5 years now. It still works but the rubber parts has started to disintegrate (which is disappointing as I've always kept it clean) and there is an air bubble underneath. Your video inspired me so I opened it up thinking it had to be the internal air pressure that was causing the bubble, but no. I think it's just the rubber expanding and forming a dome. There is some evidence of tooth paste ingress but it's so little that I doubt it caused any issues. I wish I could buy a replacement casing.

  • @alexanderthomas2660

    Thanks for this useful video. Unfortunately I think a nearby lightning strike has caused a pulse in the charging coil strong enough to fry the charging circuit, because the brush will now blink its charging light once or twice and then ‘crash.’ The charging light stays off or on until I push the button. The brush itself still works. Perhaps I can hack together a way to charge it via USB, but I think I'll just buy a new one and keep this one for spares… and put the new one in a metal box when there's another storm.

    • @alexanderthomas2660
      @alexanderthomas2660 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I was about to hack this thing to make it chargeable via USB, and I tested it once more, and surprise: it works again! Must have been a polyfuse that took a long time to reset after the surge. So, if your toothbrush behaves like I described above, don't panic and wait a few days, it might ‘heal’ by itself.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the model but if you have Genius toothbrush it could be that your fuse is failing. check my other video on Genius repair..

    Thanks for sharing, my toothbrush was not working after it fell to ground. A humming sound was coming from it so the motor was working. I tried to move the assembly above motor several times in every direction and it worked. Maybe the contact point moved when it fell to ground.

    My toothbrush suddenly, for no reason, started to refuse to accept charge today. Followed this video and sorted in 15 minutes (though I do have a soldering iron already). Those wires for the charging coil must be a super common failure. £50 saved on a new one.
    I do have two chargers and two toothbrushes so was easy to identify this brush as the failure point.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      glad you found the problem.. although contamination shouldn't affect the charging coil as it is isolated.. additionally if you found toothpaste on the bottom part it could be that you have a hole in the bottom cap as membrane was damaged? if that's the case you need to seal it. best would be to replace the bottom cap as membrane allows for some moisture to escape the housing without it it can damage the electronics even more,,

    Hello and thanks for the information! I haven't found my answer in comments or multimeter, yet :)
    Basically with a 3.6v battery, when I push the button I get flashing red battery light. When I put it on the charger, nothing.
    I'm suspecting the chip on the board as there is nothing obviously shorted, and the resistor you mentioned seems to read normal, the fuse too.....Although I don't have another one to compare values. Any Ideas?? Thanks

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      3.6 is low.. you can charge battery externally up to 4v. Then check if charger is charging at all maybe charging coil is damaged.. there are a lot that could be wrong so you need to check what is working to eliminate options...

    • @letsfixitgarage

    • @letsfixitgarage

      It could be some buildup inside of the shaft that makes some friction and smell.. seal is quite reliable in these brushes and fails rarely but when water gets inside usually no chance of repairing as there is a lot of debris in transmission and a lot of rust buildup..

    I have an Oral-B 3772 that has been dropped a few times. The housing has a 1" (2.54cm) longitudinal crack at the base of the toothbrush. Even with the crack, it was working fine but recently it started to work by itself while I was in another room. I was not able to turn it off so I let it run and eventually it stopped. After opening the I noticed the charging coil wire was broken just before reaching the soldering point. I soldered the coil to the 2 points but I am not sure I did it correctly. I wasn't able to find a wiring diagram online.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well charging coil is only 2 wires there is no polarity on them. So soldering it in should have fixed it.. but if there is a crack in the housing it could be that moisture buildup inside is making additional problems..

It stopped, but i turn off.. turn on.. it turns little bit ( few spins ).. than stopped.. than i took off brush part and try it without.. the same.. So i leave it for few minutes.. and turn it on.. it works.. but... only in "low power modes" ( you can switch modes, works on "feather icon" mode ) usualy i had it on "default" ( fastest possible lol ) but now over the sudden it stops when is on that high power spins.. when i switch it it stops.. it doesn't matter i can run it in slow mode.. but i thinking maybe that will stop one day too.. ( just guessing ). Also i tried without brush head to put finger or "hold" that metal part which shakes when it works.. it doesn't stop it works perfectly but i notice sometimes ( when i bought it ) when i reach it in certain places while brushing my teeths it shows red light and keep spinning, now that doesn't happen.. So i tried it with low mode ( feather icon ) works in my hands perfectly with and without brush head.. but "sometimes" when i brushing my teeths.. if gets that "higher pressure" on brush ( usualy when it lights that red lamp ) it stops working again.. So does someone knows what is the problem? I apologies, idk where to ask this, was thinking in latest video :o Toothbrush is old 1 year and 2 months now.. lol

      Well you have two solutions. Because it's not 2 years old you can use your warranty and it will be replaced with a new one. The other good news that you almost found a video with solution to your problem ;) check my other videos there is a video about genius X repair. there's your solution, but it involves soldering. And yes with time even sensitive mode will stop working.

      @@letsfixitgarage Thank you so much! Now i am in position.. where i can get new one.. which probably will fail again how first failed.. can happen after 6 months or 1 year.. and again i will be in the problem lol.. Do you maybe know what "part" ( that little thing ) i need to exchange ( to solder ) how is that called..I can just buy it and replace it.. I thinking that is little bit more permanent solution and i will not deal with the new one too.. because let's face it.. it will fail too lol.

      That's an smd fuse 1-2 amp, should be ok. 2-3mm in lentght would be easier to solder 4mm is possible as well.

      Just desolder the 2 terminal points and charging coil. If you want to preserve Battery nickel strips (they are interestingly formed) removal of motherboard helps if no just pull it out in to direction of charging coil.

      just a gues but check the gear on the motor shaft maybe the gear broke and thats why you are able to rotate it but motor itself is still stuck..

      @@lolbeno10 if I understand correctly the described part is a spring that pushes the shaft back up if you press it. It's not connected to the gear. What you can try is to apply 3-4v to the motor contacts if it rotates problem is on the motherboard and not the drive..

Any ideas? appreciate your response.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shorting something on PCB with tweezers is not a good strategy.. you can easily burn or short something including main chip.. you can try removing battery power from PCB maybe it will reset it but it could be a deeper problem where specific electronic repair knowledge is needed. Not possible to share it through comments..

    Thank you! I just fixed my non-charging model 3765, it was just a loose wire as you indicated. I would also like to share that I found this other video that provided way easier instructions to remove the base just soaking it in hot water. I didn't even need to force it or use a screwdriver to pry it open after the soak. I suspect this may not work for every brush, but it did for mine. th-cam.com/video/9mCaSk08Bp0/w-d-xo.html

    hi. my oral b pro 2 2500n buzzes one time (and vibrates) then stops and the battery light blinks in red.I have already charged it where it was blinking green till it stopped charging. Do you think this is the same issue where the gear is stuck then it cuts off?

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it vibrates then no, motor spins freely. Something is wrong either with battery or charging circuit. Open it up and measure battery voltage after it's fully charged and when you turn it on and it goes to empty..

    • @jas0nh0
      @jas0nh0 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still if there is movement on the shaft it means motor is spinning. As you can hear in this video its only slight sound if the motor is blocked. Anyways for repair you need to open it up then you can check motor and other things, I would inspect battery and charging circuit in this case

      @@letsfixitgarage opened up my toothbrush and the inside is rusted hence the motor is stuck. i did loosen it with your method but currently yet to check the battery as i dont have a voltage measure machine. any tips on waterproofing if a get a new unit? Also, i removed the internal part by pushing out from the head but i find it hard to reattach back the black o-ring on top as i cant push it down from the top as the unit itself sinks a few mm into the casing when i do so. perhaps you can show the rest how.

      Difficult to say why water got in in the first place. From what I saw I got impression that Braun waterproofing is better than Philips as I saw much lower percentage water damaged Braun toothbrushes.. don't have any specific tips for Braun brushes for additional waterproofing.. as for getting the ring back ok yes sometimes its struggling sometimes gets on quite easily.. try pushing from different sides like rotating the ring. Sometimes pushing down with pliers from two sides helps.

      in reverse order. if the end cap will get damaged there could be a bigger gap at the bottom but it should preserve the water tightness. if it breaks off completely then you will need to find a replacement..

      Motor "brushes" have welded to the collector and need to be broken free.. it's a delicate procedure but should be ok. Motor has a metal gear on it try to slightly hammer with some thin tool on it. By the way how did it happened that it stopped? I still can't understand in what conditions it welds it self...

    You are armature. This not the way opens the oral-b. First off you need to tap in hot water for 5 minutes. Then with back of the charger you open with clockwise rotation and then the hot water must help you to push the head and that is all. It is simple and child make t done without damage the toothbrush. You need to ask oral-b for certification, service manual, etc...

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Amateure yes, armature hopefully not :D hot water helps with genius X series brushes, they have different case material, as I suggest in genius X repair video. Have you opened this model brush as you describe it? I tried warming it up with boiling water, it didn't help with this model brushes. additionaly cap is oval shape not sure how do you want to rotate it cold or warm... And as far as I know there is no service from Braun for any brushes, would it be these, genius or even expensive IO... So I really doubt that you have certification or service manuals. But please, prove me wrong.
