sgtpepper1138 I've seen Kevin smith tell his story and although I do like Kevin Smith he can get to rambling on pretty bad at times. My favorite Prince story is the one Charlie Murphy told on the Dave Chappelle show. I've been a fan of Prince for over 30 years so I really enjoy those stories.

But I honestly think Quest read too much into it. He should know as a musician that sometimes musicians(especially great ones like Prince) want to be on another vibe. If he was concentrating on pool, then he may not have wanted to be too invested in the music and that music he was playing was on some serious groove and heavy instrumentation shit so I wouldn't be surprised if it was making him get too into it. Quest was trying to impress with the tunes prob at a time when he didn't want to be impressed but rather chill, play some pool, and put his genius musical mind on sleep mode.
This could be a weekly adult cartoon series on Adult Swim...

Prince was the definition of a recreational drug user.
He wasn't an addict.
No one who ever met the man remembers him being loaded in front of them.

Later in life, Prince developed a dependence on pain killers because of hip problems he suffered from his live dance performances.
People who knew the man have never once said they either saw him use drugs, or witnessed him 'high'.
Maybe it was a different situation later on in his life, but in the 1980s it was widely known he didn't even like people using drugs in his presence.
More than one chick who hooked up with Prince in the 1980s and pulled out her personal stash of coke was told directly by him he didn't use.
Calling the man a drug addict over the course of his entire adult and professional life, or using that to explain why he had such a mercurial personality is just stupid.
People talk about Rick James, George Clinton, Marvin Gaye, the Ohio Players, Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, etc, and their frequent drug use all the time during their careers.
Not one of Prince's professional colleagues has ever suggested Prince had a drug problem in the 1970s/'80s/90s.
The man was one of the most prolific artists of the late 20th century.
You don't produce the kind of content Prince has, most of still unreleased, by being a drug addict.
BTW, it's really fucked up that on a YT vid about Questlove's experience meeting Prince, you feel this burning need to 'educate' adults about Prince's drug history.

Another view of it: Questlove was trolling Prince. He says that he played Fela the whole time that Prince played pool against his whole horn section and his guitarist. the horn section is about 8 people. plus guitarist. 9 games. so- he played Fela for at least TWO HOURS, then Prince asked him to play something else. I mean- my son's middle name is Fela, but I also might request something else after hearing Fela for two hours straight at a party. Questlove's answer to a simple request to play something else: PLAY MORE FELA. I don't buy that he thought Prince wanted just a different Fela song- as he'd been playing a lot of different Fela songs already. so, after his request is turned down, he's like fuck that shit, you don't get it- just put cartoons on. I've been to some questlove DJ gigs. some of them have been off the fucking hook. especially more recently. but let's face it- in the early days sometimes he'd be playing stuff that not many of the people want to dance to. and Quest doesn't care about that. he has the records he came to play, and people just have to learn to appreciate that. even if it means they are just standing there talking instead of dancing. There's something to respect about that, but it's a choice. like I said in recent years, it's been different. but maybe the next party he went to, where prince was letting Fela be played- it was either a just a couple songs or people happened to be dancing to it and that's what Prince was going for. Prince has toured the world since the late 70s. he was all in France all throughout the 80s- when Fela was in France all the time. I'm sure that Prince has known about Fela WAY before Questlove has. this story implies that Questlove was revealing it to Prince and that he only liked it later because it was more in fashion 3 years later. nah.

He was NOT touring the "world" in the late 70s. First album was '78 and the one that helped move him into touring was '79. You obviously missed a bunch of stories about his tours from 79-83 in North America (mostly U.S.) His randomness of touring the world was mid-to-late 80s. #frfr
