Alright, here's some fanmade lore- Ron was captured by a mad scientist while he was tryna smash. The scientist then surgically removed Ron's brain and somehow put in a robot called a "Smashtion". Ron's new body was used as a base for the scientist's other Smashtions. 15 years later, the Smashtions and some other machines were released onto the world and thus, war broke out, it was man vs machine. The Smashtions sounded like Ron, but they weren't. As previously mentioned, Ron was used as a base for the Smashtions, so the Smashtions see enemies as Ron's rival Ben. 4 months later, the humans won the war and the scientist, desperate to hide his work before the authorities catch him, hid one Smashtion in the forest, that Smashtion being Ron. 5 years later, Becky senses Ron in the machine, despite not seeing him in many years, she then accidentally reactivated Ron. This makes me think of the original Sonic games, where the robots were controlled by small animals. Would explain why Becky asked "How did you get in there?" at the beginning, as well as why he says "Where are my wings? I can't jump like this.", and why he seems so confused later on.
