    In sub zero temperatures (-10°C or 0°F) your vehicle's engine may refuse to start. With a push button start, don't push the brake pedal. Push the button to start the engine. The vehicle will do it's diagnostics and adjust the fuel-to-air intake. After 20 to 30 seconds, put your foot on the brake pedal and push the start button again to start the engine. Leave the engine running just long enough to clean off the snow and ice. Drive the car gently until the engine temperature is within the operating range. If you're idling the engine for long periods of time, you're only warming the engine, not the drive rain components.

    Hey Rick, did you get yourself a audi??? Lol. :) :) :) Another good advice is, when your traveling in snowy cold weather, always refill your gas tank up when it gets halfway down. That way if you come into a traffic jam you can stay warmer longer. Perfect example is what happen in Virginia a couple weeks ago on I-95, when people were stuck on the freeway for 20 something hours. Good video as always, sir.

      Sorry - missed this comment, but it's excellent advice my friend. Yes, always fill the tank in the winter when it reaches 1/2 tank. All the very best, Chers Rick

    hey Rick, i asked this in one of your last video. i live in Alberta I had a question about on taking your driving test. My friend told me how he was failed on his driving test. When you make a right or left turn, Mirror signal shoulder check make the turn, then his was supposed to go to the side or the shoulder of the road mirror signal shoulder, back into the Centre of that. If there was a parked car on the side of the road the instructor said not to do that. If you get what I am saying. And this forever turn he made.

    When did you get a new car. I remember you had a Honda cr-v or some type of SUV before and now you have a sedan. Why the change. Wouldn’t a 4 wheel drive vehicle be better than a 2 wheel drive.

    Hi, Rick! My 2018 Mustang Ecoboost always takes a long time for the temperature to go up and oil pressure to go down. It usually takes like 10 minutes even if it’s over 0 Celsius. Is this normal for this model?

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that idling or driving it? And it’s a gas engine….correct? Cheers Rick

    • @bostonmah5667
      @bostonmah5667 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes because you have a small engine. Small engines take longer to warm up. Also if you have your heat on it will take longer for the engine to warm up. So if u want it to warm up as quick as possible, keep the heat and fan off and let the engine warm up

    • @velvetthunder96
      @velvetthunder96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No its not okay. Not even big diesel engines take this much time (while driving, while idling even your 10 minutes is okay)
      If your engine takes 10 mins to heat up while driving check your thermostat as it might be stuck on the open position

      When you say crank - are you saying the starter motor won't turn over the engine and it won't start....or the starter motor won't turn at all? Cheers Rick

      @@smartdrivetest The starter motor won't turn at all. All the lights and power come on in the car, but when I press the push start it just clicks. I tried using my battery jump start and it still didn't turn over.

    I still drive a 1996 Camry, just so reliable all these decades. What do I do then? It doesn't have all the BS electronics in modern cars. I'm from Sydney, Australia.

    • @averyalexander2303
      @averyalexander2303 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1996 is still new enough to automatically adjust the air/fuel ratio on cold starts, no special action is required. And the adjustment happens in a fraction of a second, there's no need to wait 30 seconds. Besides, isn't Sydney pretty warm all year anyways?

    probably wise to state that this for automatics only. manual transmissions do warm up (slowly) at idle, so you do want to give it some time for that component to warm up aswell.
