    The B-1 [variant] was also fitted with "Jericho trumpets", essentially propeller-driven sirens with a diameter of 0.7 m (2.3 ft) mounted on the wing's leading edge directly forward of the landing gear, or on the front edge of the fixed main gear fairing. This was used to weaken enemy morale and enhance the intimidation of dive-bombing. After the enemy became used to it, however, they were withdrawn. The devices caused a loss of some 20-25 km/h (10-20 mph) through drag. Instead, some bombs were fitted with whistles on the fin to produce the noise after release.
    It was purely psychological and actually hindered the pilot by reducing air speed in ordinary flight and they were removed when they stopped having the psychological effect.

      That’s just the sound of the sirens you’re hearing outside. Nothing to worry about.
      Serious tho: you have to remember these were to be put on planes which would change the sound a fair bit, not to mention stukas usually flew in groups which would also change the sound.

    • @casual_boredom7195
      @casual_boredom7195 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RyanTheHero3 Well true, but the Stuka's used propeller's rather than standard sirens to create the sound. Otherwise yes I agree.

    Interesting thing, all of those recordings of the Jericho Horn from WW2, the sound is not the actual sound of a Jericho Horn. However, a museum is building a pair of exact replicas to put on their original Stuka to see just what it sounds like. I got all of this from the TH-cam Historian The Iron Armenian. The reason you need exact materials is because theoretically it could sound slightly different if the slightest thing is off.

    I love the idea. I have a Dynam A-10 and each time I dive in for a sexy pass of the field, as it picks up speed the fans scream louder the as it picks up speed. It is so cool. Wouldn't it be a great project for you and Captain Blaz to put a propeller on it to drive the siren, rather than a motor? Think of how the sound will rise as you dive towards the field..... That will be something, hey! You could even make your own from an old EDF. Just drill holes in the housing in line with the blades. As you dive the air would drive the fan to make the noise......

    OH my goodness. I'm on the other side of the world and that thing is creeping me out big time. Robert you fly that thing on your Stuka at your field and you will have people running in fear for their lives. Then the police will come. Ha Ha Ha. It sounds just like the real one sounded. Salute!!! Can't wait to see and hear that baby in the air!

    Robert, you can not use that center pipe for an EDF duct, the holes will just let all the thrust out. So I assume you're going to do 4 EDFs under the wing. I assume you made the holes to lighten the plane, but you can't leave them open like that, it will create too much drag, I would suggest you make as may holes as you can and then cover the pipe with heat shrink tubing. You're going to need a nose cone to cover the front of the pipe, and you will need to taper the rear of the pipe as well.

    • @PetrincicBrosRC
      @PetrincicBrosRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right my friend. Iam going now with quad EDF jet. The center pipe is just fuselage now and I have made holes to lighten the bird down. We will film the thrust test today and this time Iam really hoping for something here.
