He judges people on an individual basis. My maiden name is Hatfield, and the amount of incest and hillbilly jokes directed at me can’t be counted. I still laugh. There are stereotypes and comedians utilize it. It is what they do. It used to bother me with the “you ain’t married to your brother?” jokes. Now, I just laugh it off. I respond, “As far as I know, but my Dad could have fooled around.” Be self-assured in who you are. You know who you are. Anchor yourself in it and laugh at misconceptions; you’ll be much happier for it.

If we say we understand Daphne was just a Transgender and leave it at that then we do a disservice to Daphne.
She was a wonderful human being that stood up for her friend and it cost her life. The world went dark for a moment when She left us. I wish the world had more Daphnes in it. Thank you Dave Chappelle for sharing about your friend!!

Very funny, very very ,but also extremely intelligent and deep.
There is s lot of humanity in this man,as well as courage for standing up for his principles in the face of cancel culture, and I see zero arrogance in him despite his fame.Truly a beautiful soul.

They are a new community which makes it understandable that they cannot, as a whole, take a joke. We have to be fair in the sense that the black community has had a lot of time and comedic ambassadors to pave the way for us to foster the humility to laugh at ourselves and other communities without intention of hatred. Dave's anecdote of Daphne serves as one of the first ambassadors paving the way for the future. Hats off to Dave for being humble in understanding that his jokes are only continuing to hurt them as respectfully they, as a collective, are not ready.

Enough with spamming this cookie-cutter comment - as someone with a high regard for linguistic honesty and authenticity of discourse, I can plainly say: the word, the term, "community," as it's being used in these comments that you're so giddily replying to (read: harping on), in serial fashion... IS being correctly used, in each of these instances. A "community" is simply (and OBVIOUSLY, by the way) a grouping of [mutually-aware] individuals by virtue of what they have in common.
There should be no pretense that it's being misused - save your energies for some (better thought-out and) REAL defense of language against abuses of its meaning. 👍

Be careful, he did not say it was the reason for her suicide, but is sure as hell did not help. What's more painful is, all the alphabet people who say Chapelle is transphobic did not even once dare to mention how they treated Daphne
