18,000 pounds stuck in the sand, Yankum Rope to the rescue!

- My good buddy Ben @406garage got a flat tire on his 18,000 pound forklift and then got it stuck in the volcanic ash sand that we have here in the Central Oregon high desert. So I headed over with my Ram tow truck and Yankum rope to pull it out. Of course I had to take myself on a quick tour of all his classic car collection of International trucks. He has everything from hot rods to restored originals, and even what could be the coolest overland rigs ever. After that we hooked up the kinetic rope to the forklift and a quick tug popped it right out. We will definitely go soon for a better tour of some of the more interesting vehicles in his collection, but until then you can check it out at 406garage.com

Where International Trucks go to be loved again.
Back in the late 70's I learned to drive a manual transmission in a '69 International 1200D 4x4 pick-up. We used it to plow snow for several years, before it was sold and replaced with a 1981 Jeep Scrambler.

I learned to drive in a 66 Travelall, would love a tour! Even parallel parked it for my drivers test. Before vans were a thing it was a great camping and tow rig. Downside 4 mpg, good hp, massive torque, 304 v8 and a 2 barrel carb you could put your fist in. Lol
Love the IH trucks!! I miss my 1971 Travelall with the 392 in it. Dana 44’s front and rear, dual fuel tanks. 12 mpg uphill, downhill, loaded or not. Four wheel drums made it a good snow and ice rig.

Something I have done when the jack wouldn't go high enough for a changing tire on the side of the road was to block it up and shovel underneath the tire.
I've backed up onto a hard+rail.
At about 7:00, the real star shows up! Casey, I enjoy all your videos, and Ben's @406garage, but Lucy showing up makes them all better!!!
When I was a kid (possibly 3-4 decades ago) we had a local family that ran a propane supply company. They had a bunch of IH trucks that they converted to run on propane. Rare enough to have those trucks. Super rare to have the running on propane!
I love Internationals. My first truck was a 1950 L-110, I still have it. I also have a ‘68 scout with a factory V-8.
We used to live up in Eugene Oregon we lent our jack to a person stuck with a flat tire they did not bring the jack back to us. The next day we went to work we came home in the dark and got a flat tire on the side of the highway. The only thing we had on us was a book a tire iron and a flashlight. So we had to change the tire with just that. So I put the book underneath the lower control arm and with the tire iron I began to dig a hole. I removed the lug nuts and removed the flat tire. I reinstalled the spare tire and we put the car in drive and drove out of a hole with front wheel drive. The next day I brought a used jack at a yard sale.The moral of the story when you are in dirt just dig a hole.
I have that 1/2 drive Milwaukee....its a beast, you definitely need one.

Here in upstate NY, you never see Internationals anymore. Sometimes one, maybe two, rotting in a field, but never solid examples.
It's funny you said "International ice cream truck" because Bonta Gelato in Bend has one of those that they take to farmer's markets and festivals and such. Also, based on his view of the mountains I think we might be neighbors!

Glad I found your channel . I like the content and verbalizing. I found near me a 10 door limo International that belonged to a local airport . Went by one day, tried to make a deal, came by the next , gone. It was stolen . Where the hell do you put it ?! LoL it must have been 40’ long . Can’t wait to see the Cherokee on the tracks working .

Oh, and absolutely, a tour is necessary. Love those old buggers. Would like to piece together a quad cab dually out of one of them and drive it gone back here to North Carolina. Cool stuff !

1. He has a Wagonmaster!!!!! Holy crap!!!! 2. Y’all work a lot like my friends and myself, a nice big shop with concrete, but end up in the gravel any way 😂😂. And 3 yes yes a tour is a must. I used to have a couple of old IH pickups a 3/4 ton and a 1 ton both 4x4 with 392s. They were beasts.

When you do that raise the boom and tilt it all the way forward to transfer weight :)

I love Internationals. All of them. I drive a MaxForce at work now. The boneyard at work is a damn museum. I want one just to have. Maybe a dump truck.. Loadstar is kinda what I want.
