Really informative video, thank you! I've played the old games already but it's always nice to refresh my mind after coming from a couple of weeks of MHW. :´^)
I used to play a crap ton of MH3U and MH4U on my 3ds and I decided the other day to start a second run of MHGU. This just popped up in my recommended and I find it really cool to see people still talking about this game. It's a great game. Either way, keep up the good work!
I hope in the next Monster Hunter they go all out with the monsters. All the monsters from all the games make an appearance. Oh how I would LOVE to fight Jhen Mohran again, that was the first monster I got to play online in on Tri. I didn't have internet on my wii until the end of its cycle but when I did, this raid was going on and I immediately loved it. Jhen Mohran and Lagiacrus are my favorite monster.
Man I can’t believe Rise came out nearly a year ago. I’m so late to the series, but now Generations is on its way to my house (the 3DS game, my first good 3DS physical game) and I’m so excited . I will buy MHGU in time…
Just bought it after 5 years never having enough money left to buy a switch or rather I spent it on other things, I still had my 900 hour save file from 2015(generations) thank god
This was a good beginners guide. Good information for MHGU beginners. If I was first buying MHGU this would help me starting out. Good video! Can't wait for the next one!
Thanks Queenboy! Yes, I agree, I don't think I would have been able to even get into this game if it wasn't for my friend helping me so much. So I really hope this video can help others too :)
The 3rd party app is NOT mandatory like he says it is. If you do every quest and talk to every NPC then you don't need the app. Alternatively you can just google the list of quests needed and their prerequisites if need be. It is definitely convenient but by no means required like stated in the video, so don't let that hold any of you who are on the fence about picking this up dissuade you. I would even go so far as to say the app isn't worth it at all if you have an old generation smartphone like I do. I'm running an old Android handmedown and the MHGU app is a massive resource hog and you'll definitely notice your phone become slower if it's older hardware.
Great Guide, I start make one on Portuguese, and yours inspire some points on mine!! MH comunite thank you a lot!! GU have a hard start, and you smooth the path!!😊
Wow I’ve been playing for about a month now, I’m in high rank and had no idea about the app. Nor did I know about the palico to help farm for stuff thanks so much
Yeah jumping in this game the only things I missed from world where The pickaxes Bug nets And the not so understandable key quests thing Other than those I love this game It's fun and feels like an actual piece of mh history
I’m here after Rise (which was my first monster hunter), the things I miss are the wire bugs, i constantly try using them in combat. Although what I like a lot in this one is that dash juice stops your stamina from depleting completely!
Yes!! Although you will miss those dash juices when they're gone because they're so hard to farm 😂 the mega dash juices that is. And also, I share you sentiment about the wirebugs! I went back to world and felt like the gameplay was so slow and I never thought I'd be saying that about world 😂
I did recently get monster hunter world but I’ve not played it much, I get way more switch time than PS4 time 😅 Oh I’ll need to be conservative with my dash juice then! I main dual blades and would get my supply from the argosy or from amiibos in Rise, in mhgu I’ve got the dlc supply and wasn’t sure how easy they’d be to get later on in the game so I’ve been using them “fairly” conservatively… This game is great though! Can’t believe monster hunter flew under my radar all these years!
MHGU: "Ok, so you just have to complete certain key quests to advance to the next rank of quests" Me: "Right on! So is there a marker or something that tells me which quests are key quests and which can be skipped?" MHGU: "No" :)
Thats exacly what happened to me, i just picked aerial style, then skipped everything and got lost, luckily i has to restart it over from scratch to add the dlcs
I make a point to help noobs. I've noticed that players at hr 9 - 12 will usually sit alone in a room, asking for help and rarely get any. So, I did an experiment. Since I have multiple Switch consoles, I played 2 players at once. My low HR character would sit in a room and nobody joins. I bring in a HR800+ character and it fills up fast. My HR800+ plus says I GTG and the room empties. Not always, but it happens most of the time. SMH. So, I make a point to help people get to Altah-ka.
i can not seem to find the correct app. It seems to be gone from the play store. The video in and of its self is *chefs kiss* as the last time I played monster hunter was the original ds...but...any suggestions?
I bought this after I got into world, but I was kinda hesitant to get into it cause I had no clue how to navigate it. This video really helped though, so now I can have fun fighting monsters :) I mainly play retro platformers & turn based RPG's so monster hunter was a big genre change for me.
I played a bit of that in 4U! Go to your equipment screen in the + menu and look at your weapon to see the notes required for each of the songs it has. You should have colours that play for X, A, and X+A. Just play the notes in order and press R to recite! Pretty sure you get a bonus in this game if you are bonking the monster while queueing up notes 😜 If you want more detail, Gaijin Hunter and Arrekz have great weapon guides 😁
@@KingRobRool ah thank you! I was trying to figure out how to do that for ages lol. One thing I noticed was that I was getting hit cause I couldnt roll out of attacks as easily as world. Does dodging work a bit differently in this game or is it just a case of getting used to the weapon?
Well that really depends on what weapon you used previously. Every weapon feels quite different to move around and evade with. You'll get used to it! And if you don't like it you can always switch 🙂
i wanna also say some things i wanna get out, dont rush any one to get on a quest if you do they'll most likely didn't prepare for the hunt as in missing hunter arts wrong weapon or no items so be patient and wait till they are ready other wise they wont have a good time, i also recommend playing thru village so you get how the game works and the hp for monsters are set for one player so its a lot easier playing solo, the sad part it ends in high rank and only has a few g rank quests at the end of village high rank and if i see a hr 999 again that's using rust razer weapons and nothing else im sorry im gonna call you a noob because at that stage of playing the game you should know most element weaknesses on monsters and lots of weapons to use at that point ill let the g ranks final boss weapons and armor slide since its there for those who dont really get into mixed sets since on what the full set armor skills give, and most cases deviant armor and weapons aren't as good as some other options in the game, and yes i watched the video last night just thought of commenting now
As someone that has never played a MH game before but has been completely enthralled by the Rise demo and wants something to fill that void for the next two months: would picking this up while I wait for Rise be worth it or will I have to 'unlearn' a bunch of stuff when I eventually get to Rise?
Well you won't necessarily have to unlearn anything. A lot of the general principles carry over, but Rise will simplify a lot. You will most likely feel like the transition to Rise is very smooth with many quality of life changes. If you do decide to pick up Generations, you'll have more than enough content to keep you busy until Rise, and you'll have some great hands on experience with the principles of Monster Hunter :)
@@KingRobRool Decided to give it a shot in the end then, so I guess I'll catch up on your channel's MHGU related content in the meantime. Thanks for the reply btw!
Are you going to do any weapon videos at all? If not do you have any channel recommendations to learn how to use the weapons. I find combat in this game extremely intimidating what all the different moves you can do. I've been trying to find an easy guide for the longest but no one has explained it well to me. you explain how to start the game extremely well enough so that I was able to pick the game up again.
I would recommend Gaijin Hunter and Arrekz Gaming for weapon tutorials! Both helped me out a lot. There's a lot of information to take in though, so dont worry if you dont take it all in first time. I still go back to them multiple times to learn new weapons or have a refresher. I would consider doing weapon videos but since those guys already do such a fantastic job I haven't seen the point in it. However, if those videos don't help you, I would definitely consider trying to make my own guides to simplify it possible 🙂
Planning to buy this on switch since I'm waiting MHRise on PC. This guide is wonderful, this game is very different from MHWorld a lot! Also, how hard is to actually start the game with an LBG?
Thank you for the compliment! I can't comment on how hard it is to start with LBG since I haven't done that before, however since you were comparing the game to world I'd say it's definitely harder than that. Gathering materials you need for ammo takes way longer, so I'd recommend getting carried in the hub to at least level 5 so you unlock more trading carts for farming items. Hope this helps!
@@KingRobRool Going to start with charge blade then, that weapon is (as always) very cool! One more thing: do i need switch online to have all the dlc and event quests or i can just download them like i do for the super smash characters?
No I don't think you do, just for multiplayer! Also, I've been playing a lot of Charge Blade lately in this game! I'd recommend Valor style for it - it's so fun! Gaijinhunter and Arekkz have great guides for it so be sure to check them out 🙂
Hi, KRRool. I just bought this game and while playing I got some questions. I use Dual Blades. I cant change the direction while keep pushing attacking button. It just attacks straight forward even when I change 'L stick' from right to left direction. When I played MH Rise it changed quick to the direction where my L-stick headed while attacking, but when I play Generations Ultimate I have to stop pushing attack button and first move my L-stick to the direction where I want to attack. Is this the game itself system of MHGU like that, or is there options that I need to change in order I could quickly change the direction where I want to attack?
This is just how it was with the older games. MHGU is like a greatest hits game of the games from MH4U and before that. The old games were a lot more stiff and deliberate. Rise came with a lot of quality of life improvements including more fluid combat so it's just something you have to adjust to in the older games.
@@KingRobRool Thank you for your answer. First I thought that it was kind of bug in the game but it's a releaf it isn't. Ok then, I'll play in a different way from Rise to enjoy the game.
I need help, from the beginning of the game I have a general short Health bar. How can I increase the length ? I have tried but I can't O can only refill it with the health potion but still nothing about how to increase the length, the meter of the bar to be as lengthy as the stamina bar.
It's normal at the start for it to be lower. Meals can give you more health but early game meal bonuses aren't that big. You can also craft ancient or Max potions but they are hard to craft early on as well.
Just a warning to anyone selling their platinum, gold, and silver eggs: the game actually gives you more eggs than your wallet can hold the profits from. So only sell a portion at a time, overwise you'll lose all the money that went over the wallet cap.

This was super chill and easy to follow. Thanks much!
No problem! Glad to help 🙂
Me: still salty XX didn't come to the west on 3ds
If you mod your 3ds you can grab it, along with an english patch
Just bought it after 5 years never having enough money left to buy a switch or rather I spent it on other things, I still had my 900 hour save file from 2015(generations) thank god
The learning curve for this game is steeper than US national debt.
Just bought the game and playing for the first time after watching the movie yesterday lol
Thanks very helpful without spoilers
not need to worry i spent most of my time helping HR 1~8, my hunters name is Roman.
Can you help me? I started the game new.
@ sure thing, sent me friend request so i can add you or sent me your Friend Code if you want.
My Friend Code: SW-0606-9394-7600
@@marvikv2505 I sent the rquest my name is BayEzio and I first saw someone who played a game more than 1955 hours .d
u r the most under rated aussie mh youtuber i love ya mate
Thank you! Glad you think so 😅
@@KingRobRool yeah I’m a fellow Aussie and I haven’t seen anyone of us play or make videos on mh so it’s great to see keep on keeping on 👍
Great video also from a fellow aussie.
Thanks mate 🙂
This was a good beginners guide. Good information for MHGU beginners. If I was first buying MHGU this would help me starting out. Good video! Can't wait for the next one!
Thanks Queenboy! Yes, I agree, I don't think I would have been able to even get into this game if it wasn't for my friend helping me so much. So I really hope this video can help others too :)
This was really helpful thank you
You're welcome!
Thank you. Very helpful. I bought it’s game and I was about to give up. But this video was helpful.
Glad to have helped 🙂
Thank you soo much for making this video it was very helpful I didnt know there was a app for the game.
You're welcome! I'm glad to have helped 🙂 I hope it helps you to enjoy this amazing game 😁
THAT APP THOOOOO, IT EARNED IT'S 4.9 RATING, also thank you a ton for everything in the video :D
Game is almost unplayable without it! Glad you got use out of it and the guide 😁
Honestly was really helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome 😁
Thanks, very helpful!
Great guide my first mh was rise n i just gought mhgu yesterday so this guide is great for me thx
You're welcome! Glad to be of service 😁
I needed this video so much thank you!!!!
You're welcome 😁
Great Guide, I start make one on Portuguese, and yours inspire some points on mine!!
MH comunite thank you a lot!! GU have a hard start, and you smooth the path!!😊
That's so nice! Thank you so much!! Good luck with your guide 😁
Thanks for the video. Selling eggs was great!
No problem! Yeah I've never had to grind for money and I've played for hundreds of hours!
Wow I’ve been playing for about a month now, I’m in high rank and had no idea about the app. Nor did I know about the palico to help farm for stuff thanks so much
No worries! Glad I could help 🙂
Great Guide for beginners
Thank you 😁
Yeah jumping in this game the only things I missed from world where
The pickaxes
Bug nets
And the not so understandable key quests thing
Other than those I love this game
It's fun and feels like an actual piece of mh history
I’m here after Rise (which was my first monster hunter), the things I miss are the wire bugs, i constantly try using them in combat. Although what I like a lot in this one is that dash juice stops your stamina from depleting completely!
Yes!! Although you will miss those dash juices when they're gone because they're so hard to farm 😂 the mega dash juices that is.
And also, I share you sentiment about the wirebugs! I went back to world and felt like the gameplay was so slow and I never thought I'd be saying that about world 😂
I did recently get monster hunter world but I’ve not played it much, I get way more switch time than PS4 time 😅
Oh I’ll need to be conservative with my dash juice then! I main dual blades and would get my supply from the argosy or from amiibos in Rise, in mhgu I’ve got the dlc supply and wasn’t sure how easy they’d be to get later on in the game so I’ve been using them “fairly” conservatively…
This game is great though! Can’t believe monster hunter flew under my radar all these years!
Glad you're enjoying it 😄 I'd say you got into it at the perfect time 🙂
Yeah I’m definitely enjoying it! It’s incredibly charming and addictive! 😂❤️
MHGU: "Ok, so you just have to complete certain key quests to advance to the next rank of quests"
Me: "Right on! So is there a marker or something that tells me which quests are key quests and which can be skipped?"
MHGU: "No" :)
Really great guide, thanks 😊
No problem! I had a great time making it and I'm glad you found it useful 🙂
My mh rise cartridge broke, gonna actually play this while i wait for my replacement. And man, older mh games were so much ruffer
Damn thats rougher than GU dude
So helpful, thanks so much!
Wow thank you for this incredible guide!
You're welcome 😁
THANK YOU. Idk if it's me but why did they put the dialogue text in the bottom left in small text.
No problem!
Awesome video I bought this game on the switch on sale
I did too
i can not seem to find the correct app. It seems to be gone from the play store. The video in and of its self is *chefs kiss* as the last time I played monster hunter was the original ds...but...any suggestions?
I actually answered my own question. Its now a website only.
@@joshtripp9701 thank you, was confused
Got gen u for 25$ new on Amazon! Couldn’t pass that up.
I bought this after I got into world, but I was kinda hesitant to get into it cause I had no clue how to navigate it.
This video really helped though, so now I can have fun fighting monsters :) I mainly play retro platformers & turn based RPG's so monster hunter was a big genre change for me.
I'm glad to have helped ease you into the wonderful world of monster hunter 😁
@@KingRobRool now I just need to figure out the HH 🤣 I'm just bonking and playing self improvement at the moment lol
I played a bit of that in 4U! Go to your equipment screen in the + menu and look at your weapon to see the notes required for each of the songs it has. You should have colours that play for X, A, and X+A. Just play the notes in order and press R to recite! Pretty sure you get a bonus in this game if you are bonking the monster while queueing up notes 😜
If you want more detail, Gaijin Hunter and Arrekz have great weapon guides 😁
@@KingRobRool ah thank you! I was trying to figure out how to do that for ages lol.
One thing I noticed was that I was getting hit cause I couldnt roll out of attacks as easily as world. Does dodging work a bit differently in this game or is it just a case of getting used to the weapon?
Well that really depends on what weapon you used previously. Every weapon feels quite different to move around and evade with. You'll get used to it! And if you don't like it you can always switch 🙂
Well done, Great video mate!
Thank you 😁
i wanna also say some things i wanna get out,
dont rush any one to get on a quest
if you do they'll most likely didn't prepare for the hunt
as in missing hunter arts wrong weapon or no items
so be patient and wait till they are ready other wise they wont have a good time,
i also recommend playing thru village so you get how the game works and the
hp for monsters are set for one player so its a lot easier playing solo, the sad part it ends in high rank
and only has a few g rank quests at the end of village high rank
and if i see a hr 999 again that's using rust razer weapons and nothing else im sorry
im gonna call you a noob because at that stage of playing the game you should know most
element weaknesses on monsters and lots of weapons to use at that point
ill let the g ranks final boss weapons and armor slide since its there for those who dont
really get into mixed sets since on what the full set armor skills give,
and most cases deviant armor and weapons aren't as good as some other options in the game,
and yes i watched the video last night just thought of commenting now
Good vid
Liked for sure!
Thanks for the reply btw!
well no i am waiting for it to go on a sale but
I WILL STILL NEED A GUIDE
theres also websites for key quests if anyone was wondering
Dang this was my first mh game and am coming back im disappointed without all the qol stuff
Also, thank you so much for the positive feedback, it means a lot 😁
awesome video dude
Thank you 🙂
i played the game a long time ago but kinda forgor everything so thx for the vid
You're welcome 🙂
Thanks!
Gaijinhunter and Arekkz have great guides for it so be sure to check them out 🙂
These were different times indeed.
Great guide!
My sworn enemy... you can have a banana... for now 😈
@@KingRobRool Oohhh! Banana!
48 sec into the video and this is already my situation.
Ok then, I'll play in a different way from Rise to enjoy the game.
just letting you know that the mhgu database isn't available on android through the appstore anymore
Great guide Ty
Thank you! I'm glad it helped 😁
Just bought GU for $15 it'll be nice to experience the old Gen for at least a couple months before rise
@@mattmanley7118 Enjoy 😁

Lmao when I first saw this I was like wth 😂 no problem mate!
great guide
Thank you 🙂
Why am I watching this, i beat all the fatalis😂
I need help, from the beginning of the game I have a general short Health bar. How can I increase the length ? I have tried but I can't O can only refill it with the health potion but still nothing about how to increase the length, the meter of the bar to be as lengthy as the stamina bar.
It's normal at the start for it to be lower. Meals can give you more health but early game meal bonuses aren't that big. You can also craft ancient or Max potions but they are hard to craft early on as well.
