distantvoices i would say that Liverpool had the best team at the time. United and spurs might have had a handful of better players than Liverpool but didn’t have the better team. Much like the 90’s when Liverpool probably had some better players than us but we had Sir Alex who moulded a better team. You had some good midfielders and one of the best strikers ever in fowler. I think the best team will always win. Or it should do.
I loved it,back in the day, where kit suppliers had their own numbers. Added to a club's identity. Boro's kit nearly identical to Nottingham Forest's 1979 kit but different to Villa's Umbro numbers.
I was thinking the other day that perhaps motd should go back to the format of the studio pundits/presenters behind desks. I live in the US 🇺🇸 now and on their Premier League show they have Robbie Earl,Robbie Mustoe and Rebbeca Lowe at desks. Seems far more professional and not an 'old boys network ' vibe.
Away end wasn't empty, like at most clubs the away end at Villa Park was made up of pens, Boro didn't bring many that day so only had the first pen. Which with how the camera angle was you'd only occasionally see that corner of the away end.
@@johnferguson1412 Back then iirc the Lower North only had one entrance with turnstiles which were the WItton Lane entrance, on the other side were emergency exit doors but no turnstiles. So it would have been impractical to split it as both sets of fans would have had to use the same entrance.

Des Lynam was a Commentator for BBC World Cup Team in 1982 then 1986 he become Presenter
What a team Villa had...used just 14 players all season...and they played some cracking football.
Andy Sutton and went on to win the European cup the following season. I think that villa side is underrated in the grand scheme of things.
@@mrkipling2201 Apart from Colin Gibson.
scherben definitely!!
distantvoices certainly was. Much better than who’s got the most money finishes at the top or at least in the top few places.

Weird hearing Des Lynam as a commentator!
I still miss John Motson's voice when watching the footy.
Unusually, Middlesbrough wearing their red home shirts away at Villa.
Villa had a great side
would be great to see the last game of the season away at arsenal to win the league the week after lost 2 0
The days when the MOTD studio was made of Lego.

@@alanprior7650 I agree. Maybe I'm just getting old. I also miss Jimmy Hill.
Why was the away terrace closed?

@@TheVillanAVFC I saw boro at the right but thought as a massive game you would have filled it.

Me again re. away end. Look at the Norwich sheep pen!!
25:23 for United fans.
Empty away end at villa park!!

UTV...the left side!
