I admire that you didn't take a single bite of the freshly baked bread before the test.
That was insanely hard!
Absolutely enjoyed this. I used to love going for picnics in the Pyrenees with a basket. Love a French baguette with cheese and a glass of wine.
A good baguette is just the best thing
This was a good one,old lady's APE and Ami full of bread...
That Ape!
@@MeandMonAmi was hilarious...
Ha, I have been watching so much I recognised the road where you normally charge Elton! 😂
That’s devotion! Thanks for watching
@@MeandMonAmigreat fun, much appreciated. Coffees/beers on the way
Same!
This could be the start of a foodie series........best local soup, cheese sandwich, croissant etc...
We could be here all year!
Best sandwich would be good. Could limit price to 4 Euro to make it fair? Veggie and vegan reviews would also be interesting, just because there are fewer options and it might attract a younger audience?
@@decimal1815 Great suggestions.......I like veggie.
10 French sticks in one episode, I bet Mr Boo is having flashbacks from back in the day…
Bon appetit!
Back yesterday!
Nothing quite beats the true French Baguette. Thanks for sharing.
Baguettes!
In 1991 moved to Lyon France; to live with the franch man I meet while on vacation in Porto Rico.
We did long distance for three years. Me going there and him visiting me in New England USA.
The story about the Baguettes is every time I went I would put up my pointer finger to say 1 Baguette and always got two.
Until my boyfriend saw me and said that was number two and to put up my thumb for one.
We had laugh; needless to say we always got two anyway because, y boyfriend would have half of one eaten by the time we'd get home.
I love following you both; because I stayed there until 1999 when my mother was dying.
Every gay man can't be with their mother when dying. But every year I stay in Antibe for about three months out of the year.
Love you guy's and thank you allowing me the opportunity to follow you both. ❤
Thanks John!
Tout les baguettes de France🇫🇷 sont plus bien than all german „baguettes“. (I had to draw out my best french to honour those baguettes) but Germany 🇩🇪 has other kinds of breads and rolls (Brote und Brötchen/Semmeln) which are very good indeed. Stay hungry.😋
I like German pumpernickel
I bet Elton smelled fabulous with all that fresh bread 🥖😀
He did!
Hi, a great video. All that bread is making my mouth water. I think you should do more like this, giving an overview of the great places near you.
Noted!
Mister Me and Mister Boo and Elton and Twiggy 🐶🐕 ❤ I swear I could smell the essence of freshly made bread as I was watching your latest vlog Tim😂❤ The lady driving the ape must be some character 😂😂 gotta say those baguettes looked bloody delicious 😋 😍 stay safe and well and obviously stay charged 🎉
She’s definitely a character!
Thanks
Love your show. Downloading now to watch latter. 😊
Hope you enjoy!
Dix boulangeries.. That's a lot of crispy pain!
We have 4 boulangeries in our ville and they operate a rotation system whereby 1 closes on X day and the other 3 open, then next day the closed one opens and one of the others shuts. It's the same day each week so I guess it keeps all of them having a day off and spreads the pennies around. In a 2100 resident ville we are well catered for. Unless it's Monday of course in which case everyone starves 😂 Unless you have bread based grub all day!
Good system. In villefranche we have one that’s seven days and another that’s now no days after oven failure!
@@MeandMonAmino more buns in Madams oven 😂
Sorry to see you missed out on Boulangerie Lagache. It is our personal favorite in Nice. Their lemon tartlette is superb. The pain bagnat is also top notch. Keep up the good work!
Yes I had a feeling it would be good
Madam Ape, that is going to stay with me for a while 🙂 So glad you didn't sack Mr Boo, who looked at one point like a crazed serial baguetteist. Great that the price of the baguette is fixed. Now, for me, having a nice spread in there would be wonderful, but not on its own.
Bread 🥖 is it for me !!!
deffo
That was excellent fun! Thank you! What about Boulangerie Maritime at the corner of Lascaris & Bavastro? You must do a pain au raisin test next ...
Will give it a try. We Made Lagache yesterday and its excellent!
The French and their baguette 😆 something really quite quirky - the new Renault E5, which will come this year, will have a baguette wicker baguette holder between the driver and the co-driver seat as a standard.
Will we get an update about your driving lessons in one of the next weeks?
For this test - how would a baguette from Lidl and Co. do in this comparison?
You may get it this week as I sit the theory test this week in theory!
good luck with the test then
@@andrewcharles5575 I second that! With the driving experience of a few years in places like Nice and Monaco and on tiny villages no driving instructor would dare go through, there should be no problem 🤣🤣👍
That was a proper load of baguettes lol
What a jolly informative yet amusing episode about one of France's symbols, the famous baguettes.
With all that bread, I'm getting hungry, one of those baguettes with cheese or ham is a delight
Yup nothing better!
❤..French ham and butter baguette avec cheese ,yummy yummy.
Will be checking some of these boulangeries out when we're back over this summer....
Thank you Boo,Tim and Twiggy- look forward so much to your vlogs xxx
Hard to beat jambon fromage i have to admit
Mother would be proud of you boys 😘
As a baker’s son I enjoyed that lol. I just love traditional French baguettes. What on earth did you do with all that bread? Jambon beurre for a week I guess lol. Great video ! 👍
We froze most of it apart from a couple we weren’t mad on!
No. I can't imagine you both getting drunk. Very Good and Entertaining Episode my Friends.🧸🧸🐶
Me neither
Always something unique and so interesting and so entertaining.🎉
Thanks Jim!
APEs are popular here in Greece for deliveries... Shopkeepers do work too many hours and it is good that some of them decide to keep their shops closed on some certain days. They are humans too. I did not know they make sweet breads (Tsoureki) decorated with easter eggs in France too? cool
I agree it’s just that you need a very good memory to know which and when!
If that was me stuck behind the Ape, I probably would have arrived at Rue de Remarks! (It's an old Wayne & Schuster joke)
I like it!
You two come up with the neatest ideas, thanks for the info!!
Thanks
"a bit Radio 2" - LOL! Mama Baker is... Classic FM, or Radio 3? ;)
Oh deffo Radio 3
"Buses say OXOon them" 😂
It’s true. Well they used to
One of the (very) few things I miss after moving back to Italy from France are the baguettes and the croissants. Italian "panetterie" are such sad places where everything tastes the same and it makes no sense because they can cook. Why can't they make good bread? 🤨
It’s a weird one because as you say they can cook!
Great video! We are in Nice for a few days & so went with your recommendation & bought Pan Bagnats from Boulangerie d'oliver. It was delicious & a lovely little place.
Excellent, chez Félix which is very near is also very good!
Totally Agree! Jean-Marc Bordonnat is by far the best in Nice and I've tried many dozens over the years. Second is his brother Pierre... Everywhere else is where you go when these two are closed 🙂
Glad you agree! Mama Baker is very good though but obviously a lot more expensive
@@MeandMonAmi Actually, a surprisingly good one is the Boulangerie St. Francois next to the famous butcher. Very handy. This is where I go when the Bordonnat brothers are not open.
Mr Boo not happy the Gasche was closed...😁
Mr Boo is right, the Ape is a bee and closely related to the Vespa (wasp) although wasps and bees are not the best Amis (friends) the are all very nice in my opinion.
I love little Apes (except when following one!)
wasn't that an electric Ape (ah-peh) we saw a couple of months ago (you were doing a village climb) do they even sell the electric one in france? ..would love a proper review of one)
Unfortunately my tablet chose to translate 'not really a baguette' when describing the one at2€80 as sombre adresse!!! Apologies!!
We did wonder!
There you go, voices in the car now in correct position L&R.
We haven’t altered a thing!
Thanks again that was fun. On HeyGo w3 used to watch Aaron & Patrick who sometimes did a pizza tasting at home evening and give them scores it was good fun. See you next week. 💕💕
Thanks Linda. I loved Aaron and Patrick. They were why I joined!
An AMI being held up by a slower vehicle, well I'll go to the bottom of our stairs ...
Tha can’t believe it!
@@MeandMonAmi I had the honour of sitting in a queue of traffic behind Fred Dinah and his steam tractor once - similar feeling. 8-)
Twiggy found the crust on one of them to be a little ruff.
She was overwhelmed with choice!
Now do it again with an immediate hot tasting. And a hot butter round.
Ok
From my experience you should eat these very quickly after purchase . They go off rather quickly.
True though if you freeze them fast they are ok for a few days (sacrilege I know!)
@@MeandMonAmi also (maybe sacrilege to a French person , but when you are miles from a bakery, run yesterday’s baguette, or even older, under the cold tap 3seconds, put in very hot oven 5 -8 minutes, et voilà, great bread!) That’s if you have any left! Sorry to the bakery purists!
Absolutely love you guys! Thank you for doing the laborious work of traveling hither and yon to find those baguettes - doing the lord's work! We're moving to the Nice area in February and now you've got my husband looking at Citroen Ami's...we'll see how it turns out. We so appreciate your efforts and love your content. Merci beaucoup!
Baguettes AND Amis!
Hi lads from Spain. Oh Boy, what a rip off. Not one of them is a patch on the one I get here for a mere 90 centimos (i usually give her 1€ and don't take the change) and ours is delivered and quite often still warm from the oven. No subtitles which I like because I don't always hear too well after a near miss from V2 in 1944 and working around heavy guns and aircraft engines before they had ear defenders.
There were subtitles I hope!
We’re looking into it now
Another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic love it
Thanks
We were in Nice last September. Love your channel. Feels like vacation every week.
Thanks so glad you are enjoying
Oh my gosh I feel all doughy! A very tasty vlog. 😀
Thank you 😋
Enjoyed my tea twice as much after watching this. A pity that these kind of little independent bakeries are a dying breed if not altogether in the UK. Taken over by Greggs and plastic supermarket bakeries. A great shame. Top video as always.
Thanks. Sadly chains are taking over many shops in nice but they definitely aren’t the best bread!
I can’t believe you did this without involving England’s top baker!!! ❤️
We did say but you weren’t available !
Elton is doing well!
Now you know what that bloke in the Fewarwi feels like following an Ami ! 😂
It’s twooo!
Elton faster than the Ape ⚡️👍
Winner!
I love Piaggio APE, I have the same, so strange to take a "rond-point" on three wheels !!!
I love em too !
I tromped all over Nice doing this same thing! But maybe I didn't go to ten boulangeries. But I did make an effort! Mama Baker wass already on my google maps list. And so was Bordonnat!
Both excellent!
Great video. Thanks! I love baguettes and I'm now absolutely starving. I wonder if other channels like to torture their subscribers. What a shocker that Mama Baker's was disqualified (I missed the reason but I'm sure you wouldn't have taken such drastic action unless it was absolutely necessary). Looking forward to Best of 10 Lunches Eaten on Same Day and now I'm off to buy you a coffee to help wash that lot down. Thanks again! 🤗
Thanks. It was not the standard price baguette it was an artisanal one. Very good though!
Hahaha!! Baguette got stuck in the spokes?
They can be very tough!;
Always feels like bag ette should be a small bag :) the ape is 50cc engine , it's tiny
It is indeed
Fascinated by the Specscam. I can't see it in the list above. Can you let me have product details please?
Meta Wayfarers
I’m sure the baguettes in nice are twice as nice than those in the u.k. I could make a meal out of one … with nice glass of Chablis,a little cheese , with a mix of your lovely sunshine. Mentioned nice quite a few times …mmmm nice …stay charged.
The good ones are really good
Great video as usual, out of interest can you easily get gluten free baguettes because here in Spain they are very common.
Thanks. You can and I think mama baker does them but not sure. We have gluten free pizza in the port
Loved watching this video. Great stuff 👍
Thanks 👍
Is the flat loaf Mr Boo bought at the artisanal bakery a ciabatta? Italian-style.
Nope 100% baguette
Mr boo green colour
Boulangerie Lagache, 20 Rue Arson. King of Kings!
We shall return when it’s open!
we went there yesterday and boy is it good! Right up there with the winner!
How do you stay slender you two!? Would Mr Boo consider starting a channel doing ASMR reading in French. You have a BEAUTIFUL fireside with a cognac voice ☺️
Trekking up and down filing videos; And a fair bit of gym swim and wine! I’ve told him he needs to do asmr!
@@MeandMonAmi It would be Lovely. Do, do it 😊🤗
I hope you’ve both recovered from your bread hangovers, great video, you can’t beat a good baguette. Until next time stay charged, byyyye
The six billion baguette men….we can rebuild them (probably)….
We have the technology!
Quelle fête de pain 🥖 Great video guys
Merci!
Blimey, you earn't your Dough today.
Like it!
Hungry now stop it 😂😂😂
Sorry!
The baguette holder in the neew Renault 5 is nothing new I have a multiple baguette holder in my 2006 Rapido that can when baguettes not available take a couple of mothers pride or an assortment of other baked goods
I saw that isn’t it fab!
I don't see a listing in the equipment for your "Super Sleuth" glasses camera. The quality seems really good despite it only being vertical video, Would you please elaborate on what they are. Thanks
Meta wayfarers. The colour and sound on them is seriously impressive
@@MeandMonAmi Thanks for the information 😄
You are a BreadFan ... isn't that a track by Budgie?
Budgie?
@@MeandMonAmi The Band, their hit track "Breadfan". I thought you were tres 70's, you don't get more 70's than Budgie.
I thought you meant the sitcom with Adam faith!
I like to think Mega Breadvan is faster than a Piaggio Apé (yes my van was owned by a boulangerie in Crosne from new, before I bought her).
I wonder how a baguette from Lidl would compare to the other 8 candidates. Do you also enjoy seedy baguettes? (sounds like a dodgy baguette LOL). Our local boulangerie does one which has seeds all over outside too.
Oh and what is it about new cop shops. One has been built 1km from us, on the road into the nearest town.
Bonne semaine.
I love Lidl but their bread is dodgy
@@MeandMonAmi The only Lidl bread I like is the one with seeds in. But it is a bit last resort. Pain de mie "granary" is OK though.
Have you ever thought about flashing the Ami and removing the top speed? There must be hundreds of specialists that can do that there? It sounds dangerous though
We don’t mind the speed, in most urban areas it’s more then fast enough
Vespa = wasp in Italian 😘
I never knew that!
I Live in Brittany(Bretagne)we Have machines that dispense Bread /Baguettes do you have them in Nice if you do why didn't you include them LOL
Not seen one!
What are the vegan lunch options like in Nice?
They aren’t plentiful, indeed one good one just closed but one day we will go. Many places have veggie options now though
O-o I was worried about ur teeth! My French friend in frejus said she stopped eating bGettes when she was 40! Also she said that workmen stopped whistling g at her when she was 40, 'how did zay know I was 40?' she said in her very parisian accent. 🇫🇷
Probably wise!
La Rue Arse-on, at La Maison La Gash. Now there's an address to be proud of.
Had me off the PC chair and on the floor in tears of laughter.😂.
Now, I thought the TH-cam de-monetizing Bandits were after this kind of excuse
to strike, but it looks like they have a sense of humour too.👍🏼
Damned good upload.
Thanks very much. They are oblivious to my jokes (nothing new there!)
Where's the Link to the steamy book???
In the description!
Just as well Twiggy's not gluten intolerant!
She’d eat her own socks
I can’t eat carbs! Just tortured myself watching this…do I get Brownie Points? 😅
Chocolate brownie points!
That was unexpected, testing baguettes! It's something different, I'm not a fan of them myself, I must admit, so I never eat them myself! Still, it was a pleasure to watch this episode again, keep it up!
I eat far too many!
J Multari
Not my fav but handy in a rush
Thank for the your videos! I will be in Nice in May and I am starting to re watch your video's and taking notes! I sent you a message on IG, I would love to meet up if you both are available!
The best baguettes are in Antibes
Which boulangerie?
@@MeandMonAmi The Monop on Place des Martyrs de la Resistance! Kidding! My favorite place is Aux Délices Antibois Fils for baguette and boule campagne. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! You and Mr. Boo should check out my friend's Champagne Boutique- Fonton Champagne Shop on Rue St. Esprit. Worth the trip, hopefully the remparts will be done soon. Be well.
Best baguettes smell of underarm perspiration and traffic fumes from being brought back from the local boulanger on a bike. They must be crispy enough to make your gums bleed and go stale within the hour which makes your test unscientific. Real baguettes are replenished at every meal.
Not sure about the hour!
Now go back and do Ham and Cheese
This minute!
@@MeandMonAmi next week is fine!
It's better than the usual expensive slops that you eat and then pretend it's delicious.
Expensive! Last weeks was €22 euros for three courses!
Lads, honest comment not an assault, I just don't get the context as to best baguette, (as a french visitor with a bit of brain left)
Whilst there was a listing with prices as you went along, there was zero context as to ingredients likely differing (flour type / grade for instance) local price regulation resulting in cheaper/ -est ingredients & the difference between bread types..
Décret Pain. (being made in the same place they are sold) ?
& where was the mention of the invaluable cloth french bread bag (which IS a useful gift for "back-ome" viewers, often wonder why these aren't sold in Mr Morrisons (now sold to a yank company, ...is there anything left to be proud of in Bradford now)!? ..the bread bag does extend life (if you tie the drawstring) & is handy to keep a few par-bakes in for the apocalpyse / bread-geddon, wouldn't be without ours, cheap gift for the enlightened in the uk too ;)
How much flour / bread prices have risen since those russian twats went into ukraine. (half your cost is labour itself based on now outdated 2022 prices from a mundane bbc report)
Differences to ask / look for between yer breads..
Heathen bread (if we tourists REALLY must have a familial toaster sliceable sandwich bread ) "Pain de mie" because being so used to british ways, the wrong bread in the morning is a bit like being offered a mug of water when you quaff 3 cups of tea to get your brain started, ..marmite on a morning baguette!? a sensory deprivation travesty when you wake up in foreign climes that leaves me twitchy (yes, I always pack my marmite)
Speaking of sinful, a mini (2 bite) ciabatta from starbucks with a wee slab of cheese n' marmite is £5.20 ...I got one in a "too good to go" app bag the other day ..if they have that round your way, i'd love to see what is on offer with these mystery bags (edit, yes you do: www.toogoodtogo.com/fr ) a video or two in itself maybe, we have fun with the app, having recently found an artisanal cafe bakery, the other one that is good here is our local BP garage with an M&S foodstore inside, ..tres generous!
And for context a uk starbucks (daft if you go there really) an almond croissant from the same place is £3.10
Treat us to the down-low on a good fougasse bread (for the bread virgins, it's france's version of italian focaccia bread) we've seen you chow down on fougasse a good few times in Elton now, time to enlighten the crowd maybe?
(i'd eat a warm cheesey fougasse over sandwich bread for breakfast any day)
Are we going to see some boudin noir at any point, or is it to low brow out your way? ..an episode on common sense breaking the taboo's associated with "very french" foods would be appreciated, such as how many folk eat mussels, squid, octopus etc but blanche at the thought of garlic snails, which even lidl sells in the uk periodically, nowt wrong wi' rustique foodstuffs.
& lads, give it up to the audience, regarding both of your obsessions with the almost episodical mention / consumption of french egg mayonnaise WHICH I honestly thought you were going to whip out a cool box full of "here's one I made earlier" of Oeuf Mayo appetizer to dip in the vast excess of bread from this episode. (oh, Mr Boo)
PS, don't forget the (sweet) pickled brown mustard seed!
They were all the basic baguette with standard ingredients apart from the artisanal €2.80 one
Is Twiggy a member of Mr. Boo's research team?
Very useful information for a Californian hoping to one day get to Nice.
She’s been known to contribute!
