See how many times he called him Mahatma:
Source Courtesy: Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Writings and Speeches, Volume 17, Part One, Page No.170-171
      [Following paras/lines]
Speaking in support of the resolution confirming the Poona Pact Dr. B. R. Ambedkar who was greeted with cheers when he rose, declared :
“I believe it is no exaggeration for me to say that no man a few days ago was placed in a greater dilemma than I was. There was placed before me a difficult situation in which I had to make a choice between two difficult alternatives.
There was the life of the greatest man in India to be saved. There was also for me the problem to try and safeguard the interests of community which I was in my humble way trying to do at the Round Table Conference according to my light. I am happy to be able to say that it has become possible through the co-operation of all of us to find a solution so as to save the life of the Mahatma and at the same time consistent with such protection as is necessary for the interests of the “Depressed” Classes in the future. I think, in all these negotiations a large part of the credit must be attributed to Mahatma Gandhi himself. I must confess that I was immensely surprised, when I met him, that there was so much in common between him and me. (cheers)
In fact, any disputes whenever they were earned to him and Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru has told you that the disputes that were carried to him were of a very crucial character. I was astounded to see that the man who held such divergent views from mine at the Round Table Conference came immediately to my rescue and not to the rescue of the other side. I am very grateful to Mahatma for having extricated me from what might have been a very difficult situation.
My only regret is why did not Mahatma take this attitude at the Round Table Conference? If he had shown the same consideration to my point of view, it would not have been necessary for him to go through this ordeal. However, these are things of the past. I am glad that I am here now to support this resolution.
Since the question has been raised in the newspapers as to whether this Agreement will have the support of the whole “Depressed” Classes community, I should like to make it clear that so far as I am concerned and so far as the party which stands with me is concerned and I am sure I am also speaking for the other friends who are present here that we will stand by the Agreement. Let there be no doubt about this.
Our only concern is this, whether the Hindu Community will abide by it. (voices : Oh yes, we will) We feel that the Hindu Community unfortunately is not an integral whole but, if I may say so, a federation of small communities. I hope and trust that the Hindus on their side will look upon this document as sacrosanct and work in an honourable spirit.

Actually it was Gandhi who suggested Ambedkar for inclusion in the Constitution Drafting Committee and the First Law Minister. There were misunderstandings and miscommunications and disagreements on various issues but both were significant leaders. Ambedkar's main issue was doing justice to the untouchables and other under privileged sections of the society. However, Gandhi had so many other issues to handle and to manage them even if he were to believe and concur with Ambedkar's stance on various issues, it might not have been possible for him. Both of them possess some weaknesses but Gandhiji had much more on the hands to manage and be responsible to, which Ambedkar might not comprehend all the time.

Time to time people modified hinduism according to their own selfish purpose and the result is divisions and hatred. In that society, Dr Ambedkar was able to lift up whole community to a major level by himself, so that must be appreciated by everyone irrespective of their background. Even though I come from an upper caste background, I wholeheartedly endorse all the principles advocated by Ambedkar. Ambedkar didn't harbor jealousy toward Gandhi's accomplishments. It's clear that Gandhi held caste-based beliefs. Yet, given that these events transpired a century ago, we can't hold Gandhi's beliefs against him. Ambedkar's extraordinary accomplishments merit a genuine tribute.

As someone who does not belong to the marginalised sections of the soceity and who cannot even imagine the plight of those who really faced the discrimination and inhumane treatment.......I realise it was because of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar that we plunged into a great transition of our soceity.........which by the still has a long way to go. But I have nothing else but deep respect for him as reading more and more of the work that are written by him........and not about him........his views were revolutionary and patriotic. A man who never hesitated to give credit where it is due.....like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose..........but also had the spine to call a spade a spade........He stood fearless for the truth against mammoths like Gandhi and Congress.........and will always be revered as a True INDIAN Revolutionary a great academic scholar and an out an out patriot who could stand for his own brethren.......be it the marginalised or fellow Indian.

A nice quip. The integrity of both is unparalleled. Gandhi was more preoccupied with civilizational values of how we can work together and self-rule and not just go through all the historical challenges of the colonizers, Dr. Ambedkar was concerned about political rights and constitutional rights and about how to introduce modernity and liberal constitutional framework of rights into a traditional, illiberal, hierarchical civilization on the cusp of being a nation.

In his book Pakistan or the Partition of India (1940) Dr. Ambedkar warns: “If Hindu Raj becomes a reality then it would be greatest menace to this country. Whatever may Hindus say, actually it does not make a difference that Hinduism is a danger to Independence, Equality and Brotherhood. Thus it is an enemy of democracy. We should make all out efforts to stop Hindu Raj from becoming a reality.”

@@nikhilpanikkar Such a blanket statement about Gandhi is wrong. Both individuals contributed their part to help us move away from poverty and humiliation. Ambedkar was no doubt a great scholar, but Gandhi had certain great qualities too. Of course it is cliche to say that neither were perfect (they did not need to be ; no human is perfect). Contrast their thoughts to the rubbish the likes of Modi spews out. Much of the uncultured and uneducated (rather criminally inclined) politicians of the present breed have no capacity for vision and selflessness these founding fathers of our country had.
