My '86 XJS needed the power resistor pack for the injectors swapped, it had one bank dropping in and out intermittently like what you described for your red car. Made for some hairy times driving it home in the winter, starting a corner on 6 cylinders and leaving it on 12! This channel is the main reason I haven't pulled the V12 out already and put in a V8 or turbo 6 - keep it coming!
Got bit by a cat myself. 91 classic convertible, bodywork all done, hadn't run in 10 years. because it would overheat in traffic and lose coolant. At least stored indoors. Paid $1500 for it. PO was a checkbook mechanic, and paid through the nose for the guy to do everything *wrong*. Runs well and drives now, but have 10K in total receipts, doing all the work myself. Sadly don't have the space to keep a couple of parts cars.
Bob, you've got an XJS addiction. You need to go on the 12-step program! These cars, apart from the rust & electrical issues were always hampered by that GM400 hooked up to the 2.88 diff. A 5 or 6 speed manual tranny (Tremec TKX) transforms these - now that's a video series I'd love to see!
Reminds me of a visit I made to Clarkes XJS in East Sussex over here in Blighty. Tens of XJS spares cars parked outside their workshops. They too were bitten by the XJS bug, but had made a business out of the obsession.
hi Bob about the marelli ignition. inside the control head for the ignition you may find a blown capacitor and a failed mosfet to go along with it especially if you have lost your tax signal. Nigel gave me that aggravation and it was not the ignition modules in front of the radiator. it took quite a bit of research and fiddling to find the problem. I also discovered that a lot of solder joints needed to be repaired / reload
Bob. Good luck with it all - I envy you being able to work with V12 XJ-S cars all the time! Please give as much technical detail as possible when diagnosing and fixing faults on these cars - that is the sort of knowledge that armchair mechanics like me love! I am sure that you will prevail in all cases! Peter
@@thecampchaoschronicles9567 Hi Bob. I totally understand that and appreciate what you are saying. You do a great job - I’m just saying what hits the spot for armchair mechanics like me! You have huge knowledge and experience and probably easily forget that what is obvious to you is not obvious to everyone else. As always there is a balance to strike - I was just adding my tuppence worth. Love your videos, your cars and your style. Peter
The interior rust on your white XJ-S coupe is an interesting phenomenon. My '88 convertible has rust in very strange places: the window cheater panels; the top channels in the front guards; and a weird spot on the LHS boot (trunk), not in the well of the boot but higher up on the side hump before the outer skin? I have dealt with all except the top channels which I smothered in rust converter until I can get the guards off to repair. This car has been in the Narrogin, Western Australia region most of its life, as a regional doctor's car: dry as chips, so the reason for the rust is a mystery. I was thinking some earth leakage, or electrolysis, but I have checked the earthing straps for stray currents, all good.
Looking forward to watching you bring those cars back to life! Those cinder blocks supporting the other cars are a bit frightening though; I would not go underneath a car unless on proper jack stands…i’m sure you are aware people have been killed working under improperly supported vehicles…
I had a Series 1 1/2 E Type for several years and sold it to start the business. The E Type V-12 s a great car and when I can buy one for $1500 I'm all in. 😉
Robert, your video’s, are great and I constantly urge people to visit your site. I’m in the same place many men my age is. Prostate Cancer. Except mine is very virulent. Just finished my radiation treatments, waiting for the inflammation to settle so a PSA. Test will tell me what’s next. In the meantime I’ve got to find a new home for the XJS race car. Mid project so I’ll take a hard hit finacially. But it’s a Southern California rust free example. Cage is in and Group 44 fender flairs. Any suggestion as to how to market it?
Great job and videos Bob.. I know it's out of your budget or the idea of your show.. but you should look into the full mobeck MFI system he sells.. a complete kit turns into a 21st century car.. we installed it on my son's restomod. Hit the custom push button start, and it idles perfectly, more power better fuel economy .. you remove almost 12 lbs of wiring and endless programmability.
Love the videos....not rushed...clearly spoken. Well filmed. Keep the hits coming.

More will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Cannot wait to see these up coming videos .

I was waiting for the ghost of Sir William Lyons to come walking out of the corn field.
That's actually really good idea for an AI video project to manipulate this video with.

Thanks Peter. I provide as much info as I have time for. Everything takes twice as long to do if you do video. And then there's editing.

Another excellent video Bob and thanks for sharing the history on each car.
I absolutely love these cars
Well, so only two? What are you going to do after lunch! Looking forward to the videos myself. Thank you Bob

Yes, a mystery.
Bob the unicorn you speak of is you. 😄
Thanks.

Well'p.... that's gonna keep you busy.... 😀
Great job look forward to seeing it
Fun times ahead!
Save that Rouge edition first
I have 1990 just like trying to
Do the same thing keep them
Coming XJS class is in session
Bob, an interesting collection of V12 Jag XJSs, any particular reason why you don't have any V12 E types in the collection?

The last Jaguar, the XJS and 1987 XJ6 XJ40, after this a slow decline, now a line up of nices SUVs that should be by any brands...

Sorry to hear that Frenchy. Good luck with your treatment. Bring A Trailer might be a venue to sell your car.
Man.. so sorry to hear that William. Hope *next* turns out as well or bette rthan expected...
