    When you look back at what shoe technology was like, the floor construction, you get an even bigger appreciation of how incredible MJ was. It was really hard on their knees/feet compared to today, and body recovery tech wasnt nearly as good yet he only got hurt once and came back quicker than anyone could have.

    MJ is #1. Bird may be #2. he was a great shooter and had exceptional b-ball IQ. but MJ was faster and stronger in his prime and developed a fadeaway that was unstoppable. It's hard to rank all-time greats with the different eras that are played in.. the game was played different in almost every era, which sometimes caused an inflation in certain stats. Also, as time has gone, players gradually are getting bigger, faster, stronger. the game is also officiated much different now. the 80's officiating, coupled with his never ending work ethic, an not to mention natural athletic ability sat 6'6 is why he is GOAT. The players now, physically are superior, but as far as fundamentals and the WILL to win, the 80's and 90's NBA is also the GOAT. The NBA now is a joke. a lot of it is how it's officiated, but the players just aren't the same. these are regular season games that had a playoff type atmosphere. sorry to say, NBA will never be the same.

      @@arvinsosmena1086 what are you on about, not from the start of their careers. Celtics had a 29-53 record the year before Bird came, bottom of the Eastern Conference. They only had a winning record only against the Pacers and the Knicks that year (with Tiny, Cornbread, Cowens).
      He took that same team and turned them into a 61-21, top of the Eastern Conference. Bird had the most points, made the most FGs (47% shooting), shot 40% from the 3P line, had the most rebounds, most steals, second in assists (behind Tiny), second in blocks (behind Cornbread and Cowens tied for first) and had the most turnovers. That's how good Bird's rookie season was.

    • @theephraimite
      @theephraimite 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Counter Strike, not sure about smarter. Bird was a better three-point shooter, I’m quite sure about that. As for passing, Jordan didn’t need to pass as much since he could he could easily beat the defense with his speed, athleticism and highly developed fadeaway and mid-range jumper. But other than that, like I said, they were both equally competitive.

    • @counterstrike89
      @counterstrike89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@theephraimite Most experts would agree that Bird would be smarter than just about any, and yes he was a better passer than Jordan, even Lebron has said that Bird had no flaws in his game. Bird did things that no one did, Jordan was yes more athletic and could palm the ball, and was also a decent shooter. Pat Riley said, if I had to pick a player to win a game, I'd choose Jordan, if I had to pick a player to save my life, I'd choose Bird. I grew up watching Bird, so I saw games that are not available on youtube, he did something astonishing every game. His hand eye coordination was insane, he could just flick and touch passes where ever he wanted. Even Magic didn't quite show this kind of dexterity. th-cam.com/video/wwo4vtaZmsY/w-d-xo.html

    Kareem: Larry Bird could do anything. Oscar Robertson was scary. Wilt Chamberlain was unbelievable. th-cam.com/video/D13Jlm8EQjU/w-d-xo.html
    "Larry, you only told me one lie.
    You said there will be another Larry Bird.
    Larry, there will never, ever be another Larry Bird."
    - Magic Johnson, 1992 speech made in Boston in honor of Larry Bird
    “Larry has a way of making everybody he comes into contact with a better person. A pure American of the highest character as reported in Sports Illustrated: "Bob Woolf, Larry Bird's attorney, brings out a hotel bill dated April 6, 1979. .... Now, the most illuminating thing in this whole saga is that hotel bill from 1979. You see, except for the basic room charge and the tax, there was nothing else on it. No room service, no restaurant charge, no long-distance phone calls, no nothing. Having dealt with many other athletes, Woolf naturally assumed that the kid would charge at will. But that wasn't how Larry Joe Bird was raised back in French Lick, Indiana. ‘Larry has a way of making everybody he comes into contact with a better person,’ Woolf says. ‘If you think the Larry Bird on the court has character and is unselfish-well, off the court he's even more so.’ Among those who know Bird well, the same catalog of qualities is cited again and again: honest, loyal, steadfast, dependable-his existence shaped by the contradictory, almost mystical ability to be the cynosure, yet always to contribute to those around him. Mel Daniels, who was an assistant coach at Indiana State when Bird played there, said it best: ‘It's like a piece of Larry goes to each player by the things he does.’ Tony Clark, a Terre Haute radio executive who grew up with Bird, says, ‘Larry epitomizes the word friend. Do you understand that?’ Yes. ‘Then you really don't have to know anything else about him.’” (Sports Illustrated 1988, Frank Deford, “A Player For The Ages,” Sports Illustrated, Time, Inc., New York, New York, March 21, 1988)
    "The guy was a basketball genius who had a mask of "a hick from French Lick" out as his calling card. But if you believed that for one second, you were going to get beaten."

      And to add on, as great as people wanna perceive George Gervin to be, he wasn't an All-Star in 1986 as the 1985-1986 Bulls were 21-43 without Jordan. And before Jordan's 3rd season in the league kicked off, the Bulls lost George Gervin, Orlando Woolridge, Sidney Green, Quintin Dailey and Kyle Macy and didn't sign anyone close to those players they lost. The best players they managed to signed that played 60 or more games were rookie Brad Sellers, Mike Brown & Elston Turner and all the other players they signed played around 44 or fewer games that season, namely Cureton, Threatt & Waiters. And even with a depleted roster, the 1986-1987 Bulls went 40-42 and made the play-offs.
      The Bulls were ECF contenders for two consecutive seasons before Pippen became an All-Star and even after he was selected as an All-Star for the first time in 1990, he didn't play anywhere close to an All-Star level in the post-season overall, especially during the 1990 ECF, where the Bulls got eliminated by the Pistons in game 7. Pippen is one of the two NBA players who got selected into the Dream Team years before he even won his first All-NBA First Team selection. And he was given the nod in the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996, while players like Bob McAdoo & Dominique Wilkins were not selected.
      Jordan was the only player on the Bulls that was a perennial All Star/All NBA/All Defense when the Bulls made it to 3 CONSECUTIVE ECFs, 1 Finals & won an ECF & a championship title. And that's a fact, going on a really low standard of defining a player as perennial All-Star/All-NBA/All-Defense. One with higher standards or one that goes by the book & the true definition of the word 'perennial', will never consider Pippen as a player that was a perennial All-Star/All-NBA/All-Defense when the Bulls made it 5 CONSECUTIVE ECFs, 3 CONSECUTIVE Finals & won 3 consecutive ECF & 3 consecutive championships, simply because he had only 2 All-NBA selection by the end of the 1993 play-offs.

      acorn sucks Bringing up Larry Bird's rookie season and giving him all the credit for his team transformation is ridiculous and shows how much knowledge you lack. The Celtics had Tom Sanders as head coach, who was fired the same year he was hired and then they had Dave Cowens take over, and if you didn't know he was trying to be a coach for the first time on the NBA level WHILE he was still on the roster as a player for the Celtics. That team didn't have a legit head coach to begin with and to compare their regular season record to the very next season where they had a legit head coach in Bill Fitch and claim the disparity in wins is due to Larry Bird's insertion into the roster, shows much ignorance.
      Bird was drafted into a team that had two active and current All-Stars and played during a time where the league has fewer talent and cocaine addiction was more prevalent.
      Larry Bird, was drafted during the 1978 NBA Draft as the 6th pick. No one on that draft is a Hall-of-Fame inductee or one of the 50 players chosen as the 50 greatest NBA players of all-time during the NBA 50th Anniversary celebration, besides Larry Bird himself.
      Bernard King, Earvin Johnson & Adrian Dantley were the peers who made their debut a year before and after Bird's debut that were of Hall-of-Fame caliber but only Magic was top 50 greatest & Hall-of-Fame caliber. Now go compare them with the top talents from the '83, '84, '85 NBA Draft. There's Clyde Drexler, Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullin, Karl Malone, Joe Dumars and many others are not inducted into the Hall-of-Fame who were All-Star talents at some point. It's not even close.
      It's absurd for anyone to claim Jordan didn't do as well as Bird just based on the fact that Bird's team had more success in relation to his respective competition. Both of them started their careers in vastly different scenarios & different competition. That's why Bird's team never even came close enough to win 70 games in a single regular season with the Celtics. His team's highest single regular season record was 67-15 and that was during Bird, McHale, Parish & Ainge's prime with multiple other Hall-of-Fame talents who were serviceable. The 1979-1980 Celtics was vastly inferior in comparison with the 1985-1986 Celtics and yet the Celtics were able to win 61-21 in 1979-1980 season.

      It is pointless enough to bring up a team's record from one season and compare it to the next or previous season without addressing any key differential factors. And to go beyond that and use that analogy to form another one by comparing a different team from a different time, makes even less sense.

    Jordan always beat bird one on one even in college while bird was NBA but there's this team factor and even though Jordan was one of the best passers bird had a complete team and that team factor comes into effect. But had the Celtics run into the bulls from 1988 threw 1990 Jordan wins one on one and has the team factor on his side. Bird and Celtics couldn't beat Jordan when Pippin and Grant played even there rookie season

      All the Bird fanboys can make themselves feel better about defeating a team with a losing record. Because we know what happens when Bird has to face teams that are as stacked as his. He gets his ass handed to him.
      >Couldn't knock Dr. J off of the ladder from 1980-1983, had to wait until he was on the decline.
      >Couldn't defeat Magic in college when both had the best teams in the league. And couldn't win a feud against him in the NBA finals when they both had the top teams in the league.
      >Couldn't maintain his spot at the top of the conference against the Bad Boy Pistons. Struggled to defeat them in 7 games
      Makes sense you would want to applaud him for feasting on weak team. How else could you justify your likability to your white GOD. lol
