It wasn't his dad who cause his trauma it was one of his mums boyfriends who would put him in a corner for 15 minutes and then beat him. He's done interviews where he talks about his mums boyfriend who beat him and there is a lyric in mansion where he talks about it. "You used to put me in the corner, so you could see the fear in my eyes then took me downstairs and beat me till I screamed and I cried"
"I'll be here for you if things get worse" Love how he infers that little Nate is still in there somewhere. They say part of us stops developing when trauma occurs.
Been through insane stuff due to a codependency issue in the family can confirm trauma unfolds as you age the only thing that helps is time if you're lucky, South Florida sucks guys haha
React to *Returns* next its just FIRE *No Excuses* and *Change* has some great bars, *I miss the days* is a masterpiece along with *Thinking and Only.* These are the main songs you HAVE to listen to IMO. Just listen to the whole album actually, you will not regret it!!
Know, and let me go are some other ones that would be quite awesome to see :P Edit: yeah, I don’t really know the albums. Sorry. I know over half the songs, but not the albums tho.
I think let me go is also a heavy hitter because he’s talking about how he feels nobody in the industry respects him and they find him terrible compared to other rappers
At NF’s concert he sets up two chairs facing each other as if he was sitting across from himself while performing NATE (pretty much what we saw in his Therapy Session video) it was sooo sweet!! Love your reactions and how well you understand NF!
I watched an interview with NF and this song came up and he explained that this song was inspired by an exercise he had done in therapy where you were suppose to imagine you were talking to your younger self and then imagine you were your younger self and respond. If I can find the specific interview I’ll link it in the replies. Anyway, I noticed you did a little more with the editing this video and I’m not sure if anyone else has commented on it yet but it looks great, keep up the good work!
Love the reaction! During the first tour of perception Nate was in the darkest place he had ever been mentally. He had become extremely depressed,he had suicidal thoughts, his anxiety was becoming terrible, and also he hadn't been diagnosed with OCD yet and didn't quite know what it was, so he was having some "weird things" going on with that. So he had to go to a therapy place for four days to disconnect from the world, and there they made him do some weird exercises that were actually very terapeutic. There was this exercise where he had to talk to the younger version of himself and then he had to imagine being his younger version and talk to the bigger one, and from there he took inspiration for the song Nate performs the song like this at concerts, with two chairs At the beginning of the song they are singing happy birthday to him Keep it up man!
There was a moment in this song that gave me chills; when he says he'll stop (talking about his Mom) 'cause he says he can see that it makes the younger Nate look nervous, it just occurred to me why he did that. It was because, in theory, his younger self, at the age of six, didn't know his mom was going to die. She was still alive through his childhood. So that makes this so much more real, and raw; to think that he was trying to spare his younger self that knowledge before he needed to know it. This man's talent is just beyond anything I've ever seen. What can you say about it ? Just incredible. As always, I appreciate your breakdown of the lyrics. Great job, as always.
This song comes out of an exercise he did in a therapy session he had. The therapist had him talk to his child self. So that's what this song is. Notice in the song beginning he says it> that he wish he can talk to his 6 year old self. That's what he's doing.
Dude your the most in depth youtuber I've ever seen. You never skip a bar like most people would. Your truly amazing, cannot believe that your subscriber count is so low. Definitely a diamond in the rough.
@@johonanandrewgomes7593 yeah dude. I listened to this like a week ago and I had my headphones almost the whole way up and I was like what is that?!?!! Then i kept on replaying it. Then I heard the happy bday song
You understood how important this song meant to many of us. His ability to talk to both himself and us is crazy. Great reaction and nice add on with the clips from other videos.
Yo, yo, yo! I’m here for it! The only thing that I would really love with this song, is a video. I think, personally, that there is so much opportunity to do things visually, because the song itself... mwah. Insane. Other than that, as always, you do an amazing job breaking things down and just vibing and listening while also taking into account what the words are truly saying. Respect.
I have been listening to NF since mansion and I think the way you keep reacting amazingly and keep thinking he is always amazing is just like a dream that I want NF to know
Its a fire song, the idea of writing or speaking to a younger you has been done many times in music. What I believe sets this song apart is the emotion that he puts behind it, the story thats presented, and the empathy that it pulls out of your soul. Keep up the good work man, always enjoy your breakdowns.
Another great video! There are so many great NF songs. I remember back in Therapy Session (I think) you said something along the lines of how would he top whatever song that was, then you continued listening and I’m sure he has. So many songs that I’ve thought, this is his best song, lol. Too many to choose a best song!
Bro I usually don't comment but I have to give you props for your reactions. They're so well thought out, genuine, nicely edited and your personality just makes it a whole lot better. I've seen many reactions to NF and yours are easily the best! Keep going 👊🏻
This was a banger but the 2 songs that hit me hard in this album was I miss the days and only. Only is facts on facts on facts. You should react to them
You have to listen to lost in the moment it was in therapy session and to me personally definitely in my top 10 nf songs. I found your channel a couple of days ago and you are hands down already one of my favourite reaction channels. keep up the good work
Your analysis was amazing. But the best part of the video is you taking the time to reference my boys Tom and Jerry elevates this to a whole new level.
Bro, your reactions have always been on point but I have to say that the new edits of the lyrics and the music video clips were super dope man. Keep killing it!
Great job on the reaction and break down. NF is hard to get everything the first time through. I appreciate the break down and knowing lyrics vs just guessing what he said. Got my sub.....looking forward to future content
Top NF songs . . . Intro , Intro 2 , Mansion , The Search, Why, Let you down, Outcast, How could you leave us, Therapy Session, When I grow up, Paid my dues, Real, All I have. NF , his name is Nathan. He grew up as an abused child with a mom addicted to pills. His songs are about that pain and how he battles it. Some songs have a under tone of hope despite the obstacles he faces in life. That is what makes him relatable and a true artist.
I said it before and I'll say it again man I love being a turtle. Ohhh my bad. Sorry about. But hey I do love tmnt. But anyways no like I was saying. You don't listen to NF you hear him, understand and feel what he goes through. But yes man your my top guy for reactions. NF is in a whole different level than a lot these rappers. Thank you again for the amazing and understanding of him reaction. Keep grinding brother. Definitely got more songs to listen to and then do Chasing. He used some audio from a fan and she is super good on the track to.
In the beginning of the song you can hear people singing Happy Birthday to Nate and the end of the song you can hear the tape finishing which I thought was cool.
“does he go on to find what he’s looking for?” 11:22 I would say Paid My Dues was more like a diabolical relapse of his search imo. Especially the ending of the track where he was sitting on the floor writing “LOST” on the paper. I interpreted that as him being lost on his search. Also the latest song he dropped called “Chasing” he has a line talking about a ‘high’ he’s been chasing. You’ll see that when you get to that track. Also, you HAVE to do the song “Returns” from this album. Technically, his best track hands down.
If you noticed, the background track in the beginning they were singing Happy Birthday to Nate. Not entirely sure if it's an actual audio taken from an old video, but nonetheless just to point it out if you missed it. So this is one of many signs that this is future Nate talking to his younger self. Also, early gang! :))
NF's mom had been seeing a guy while Nate was just a little kid, and the guy she was dating abused him physically and emotionally. He refers to this guy in mansion when he talks about being no stranger to physical abuse. Aswell he mentions in INTRO III how he wrote a song for Johnny without fear in his life. (Johnny being the name of his mom's bf)
Since you're reacting to the whole album, l recommend listening to Oh Lord, from therapy session ,before you react to returns because there is a line or two in it that's a call back to oh Lord and you won't understand it without first listening to Oh Lord
This songs was written by him, because of his Therapy. Once he had to write a text to his younger self and used this idea for his song
Yeah,he said it in an interview
I sometimes imagine Nates therapist reading His songs jajaja
It wasn't his dad who cause his trauma it was one of his mums boyfriends who would put him in a corner for 15 minutes and then beat him. He's done interviews where he talks about his mums boyfriend who beat him and there is a lyric in mansion where he talks about it.
"You used to put me in the corner, so you could see the fear in my eyes then took me downstairs and beat me till I screamed and I cried"
Yeah I realised I referenced his dad but really meant "stepdad" if you can call him that at all
"I'll be here for you if things get worse" Love how he infers that little Nate is still in there somewhere. They say part of us stops developing when trauma occurs.
Been through insane stuff due to a codependency issue in the family can confirm trauma unfolds as you age the only thing that helps is time if you're lucky, South Florida sucks guys haha
Every song on this album hits hard
Can't wait to dive into more!
In case you didn't notice before he starts talking all that noise you hear under the beat are people singing happy birthday
I didn't pick that up actually, thanks for pointing that out 🙏
Here’s a little tip. When you listen to “returns”. There’s a part that won’t make sense unless you listen to “oh lord” by him
This is in my top 10 songs by NF, thats a hard spot to hold
