Man...you're really taking me to school on this stuff. I have watched a lot of videos, but yours is the best tutorial I have found on this stuff. Good Job!!!
Sure wish I had studied this video more closely before I damaged small areas of my very first beaver pelt. It also helps me to know when to flip the fleshing knife over and how to apply proper pressure. This video is great but I need a lot more practice and experience to get the amazing results demonstrated here! Thanks for the detailed instructions. I will keep working at it.
Greta video as always And This is why we have so many beaver in the southern USA Because for 8 dollars most people won’t do that much work for such a small return
Really great demo, I can't wait to try out the new beam and necker.....hopefully no more 2 hour beavers. If you're still looking for video ideas I would be interested to see how you sharpen you fleshing knives
backyardmeat thanks. im sure your new setup will seed up your fleshing time. I made a quick video a while back on simple sharpening and maintenance here's the link. Fleshing Knife Sharpening and Maintenance
I really enjoy the way you explain the fleshing process. I think that this will really help me with the first beaver. Even though I case skinned it for hanging in the house.
Hot damn what a great video ! I've been doing it all wrong. I use my knives and it takes hours to do 1 beaver. I'm getting fleshing beams and knives first chance I get. Subscribed and liked. Keep 'em comin' !
Beautiful job. Ive been trapping our property for years. I've e been going g out with my father on The West Cook inlet since the early 70s. Were the only trappers.
I'm very interested in your fleshing beam setup, how it's built and dimensions and such. I currently use a whole pvc pipe that is only 6" wide (found it, worked great so far), that is hinged onto a wood base so I can fold it up for storage and transport. Would you mind sharing about your beam? If you already have it in a video I apologize for having not seen it, I haven't gone through all your videos yet.
The only other video of a beaver getting worked over better than this one is on porn hub! Lol All jokes aside, you know your shit sir very impressed new subscriber here!!
I really appreciate this/these videos. THANK YOU. But when you put the hides in the washing machine on rinse cycle, do you put any detergent of any kind in there or what? And how long?? Thanks again man. Youre an artist, I have to say.
Thanks again about a month later! I just got my first Beaver and it was 43 inches long and 45 pounds, so I didn't want to mess it up. I got both ears, eye lids and the nose perfect this time, but in the washer the hide was to heavy to spin dry so it is hanging up to dry fur grain down and I will flesh it in the morning. Don't have a hoop to stretch it on and nothing to stencil some plywood with, but I do have a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood so I will do the best that I can. I won't want to sell this one anyway, so it shouldn't matter as long as long as I tan it right to make a nice hat with. I like that you explain everything step by step, so you're easy to follow.
That is really a nice Prime Beaver hide. That's a nice white color 2 the hide. That knife has to be really sharp cuz it comes through that like butter. I am flushed my fair share of beaver.
Also I noticed you have videos on maybe some of my questions which Ill also check out. But IF you can answer those questions Id still really appreciate it. Thanks again.
That is a skinning knife. It's not a wood draw knife, though I've seen videos of people that make those work. Generally though, the wood draw knife is for pulling towards you and the skinning knife is for pushing away from you like he's doing.
+Zappy Nickel fleshing wad what was in my head but I wrote skinning knife. I've looked at fishing knives extensively because I use a machete right now and am sick of it
I like to marinate the meat in teriyaki and white onion slices overnight, then dredge in flour and a quick sear in avacado oil in a hot cast iron skillet, then transfer to the oven at 275° for 15 minutes.....DELICIOUS
Thanks for this video. This is the best demonstration I have seen! Good Job! I am the hobby guy. I have 1 beaver, my first ever to skin, flesh, board, tan, The whole deal is new to me. I am wondering if you have suggestions for tanning. I hear about Krowtann but can not get that product shipped to AK. I also want to know mare about your PVC beam. I did mine on my knee and love the look of that beam. Where did you get your fleshing knife? Thanks, and thanks for video, VERY helpful for the next time. I am riding the learning curve through my mistakes.
OK so I've watched your fleshing video about 3 times now I am still leaving tons of connective tissue and meat on the pelt. this is starting to truly make me mad if you have any suggestions please let me know.
Of all the people I’ve watched your videos are always at the top of the list. Appreciate what you do man

does washing help with the fleshing (make it easier) or is it just for cleaning?
Greta video as always

Do you ever use a piece of pipe for your beam?? What kind of flesh beam do you use? Or prefer??

perfect, thanks!
Is it worth it to build the equipment to do this if I'd only use it once a year to make clothes for family?
What is your knife are you using?
I thawed a green beaver pelt and fleshed it. Does temperature effect the process?
I really enjoy the way you explain the fleshing process. I think that this will really help me with the first beaver. Even though I case skinned it for hanging in the house.
Skinned my first beaver today, made a few minor holes but I think I did pretty good
Hot damn what a great video ! I've been doing it all wrong. I use my knives and it takes hours to do 1 beaver. I'm getting fleshing beams and knives first chance I get. Subscribed and liked. Keep 'em comin' !

That is really a nice Prime Beaver hide. That's a nice white color 2 the hide. That knife has to be really sharp cuz it comes through that like butter. I am flushed my fair share of beaver.
do you sharpen your fleshing knives if so how do you go about doing it.
Have you tried using a pressure washer Brotha?
does refridgerating the pelt before fleshing help? i know skinning a deer after its been hanging a day or two, it just pulls right off..?
Anthony Fischer i know that he refrigerates between skinning and fleshing
What do you do with the meat you cut off the flesh?
Question - Using a clamp leaves compression spots on the leather side. Does that affect grading?
No. They will go away as the pelt dries
Ok - great - Thank you!! Really enjoyed the video. Excellent job!!!
how long did it take
Oh hey, could you PLEASE tell me which fleshing knife youre using?
I have tried many. I've stuck with the post for the last few years.

Great video, is that a specialty knife or a regular wood draw knife?
That is a skinning knife. It's not a wood draw knife, though I've seen videos of people that make those work. Generally though, the wood draw knife is for pulling towards you and the skinning knife is for pushing away from you like he's doing.
That's a fleshing knife.
+Jarod Morris a skinning knife is for skinning the animals that's a fleshing. YW.. (Not meaning to be a jerk)
+Zappy Nickel fleshing wad what was in my head but I wrote skinning knife. I've looked at fishing knives extensively because I use a machete right now and am sick of it

John Warren, Steven Willis & Jake Gilly he's got a video called "fleshing knife sharpening and maintenance".
Great job thanks
Good video, thanks for sharing
Nice beaver
kind of a pity the hides only go for about 20 when they seem a bit more tedious than coon.
Cold fur is easier to flesh with
OK so I've watched your fleshing video about 3 times now I am still leaving tons of connective tissue and meat on the pelt. this is starting to truly make me mad if you have any suggestions please let me know.
+Chase Credeur use the sharp side of the knife. that and it does take alot of practice
I found puttin hide over my knee and using a beaver knife goes faster and is way easier
What's up
thank you
Hi
Old scars & bitemarks, its the same way with bitches!!
😁👍
Does anyone eat bear's meat? Looks like red meat.
So, first get a nekker to loosen everything up..That's what she said
With the current price of beaver hides, all this work just isn't hardly worth it.
Agreed, that's why I hope to sell them to locals around my area.
If ya happen to get one though just work it and dont sweat th small stuff i guess ..
Enjoyed video good job in short time
