    Nice review. Two ideas: 1) remove the valance that is keepingyou from opening the cabinet; 2) Add a new electric outlet to underside of cabinet teed off the microwave's electric supply & breaker with an a/b switch to allow you to only run either microwave, or the plug.

      I was thinking of the same thing. Pulling power from microwave and add a outlet box underneath for air fryer!

    15 min into vid about slide out. You can mount some legs under it that fold down when needed for support. ONLY IF YOU SWIVEL THEM UP BEFORE EXTENDING THE SLIDE!

    If the positives outweigh the negatives then it was the right choice.

    Definitely need a couch. We had a keystone springdale 257rl. Smaller kitchen, larger u dinette slide with 2 recliner in back. Spread axle 15 inch running gear and large tanks. Upgraded to 33 foot fifth wheel with quad slides and 2 bedrooms.

    I would tap into the microwave circuit and add a outlet for the air fryer and install it under the cabinet... that would be a easy upgrade...

      Good suggestion! 😀

    • @marvs4321
      @marvs4321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s exactly what i was going to suggest. If the microwave outlet is a single plug, replace it with a double. then add a flat plug extension, which can be routed and secured along the top of the cabinet and then to the outlet on that side of the counter.

    I've owned a number of RV's over the last 40+ years, So I say from experience & also a little prejudice since we have a ORV on order; that I believe you have made a good purchase. We boondock a majority of time and after the last several RV's we had some very specific parameters for our next trailer. The ORV met a majority of our wants & desires. We ended up with a 26KVS. We were going to go smaller but we really liked our space in the last trailer that was this size. It also had the two entrances. The ORV doesn't have as much outside storage as our last one, but we'll cope. We gained a lot more carrying capacity & better suspension system for off road.

    You're doing amazing! Just think how few first-world clothes you have compared to people in big houses - you rock! What if you switched your bulky wardrobe coats to the less accessible clothes storage and put your everyday closet next to the door? It maybe wouldn't work in winter when you need puffy coats by the door, but for summer perhaps it could?

  • @deeroberts9609
    @deeroberts9609 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Regarding your breaker problems, we had the same issue so we had an under-cabinet outlet installed, tied to the microwave circuit. We don’t need an extension cord now. We cannot use the microwave when using our coffee pot or induction cooktop simultaneously but it does give us some flexibility. Love your TH-cam channel.

      @scooterw3936 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did the same thing with our rig. It works great as long as you don’t forget you cannot use the microwave at the same time! That results in an immediate trip of the breaker. Don’t ask me how I know!

    Drill a hole in the bottom of that overhead cupboard and thread a power strip cord through it to the microwave outlet; use a strip with a surge protector. Permanently mount the power strip at the top of the backsplash above your counter with command strips. Voila! Power where you need it without dangling cords.

    I had 3 ideas for ya.. but alot have had the take valances down.. add outlet under cabinet from micro otlet..outlet... so my third... u have that long blank wall in bath next to med cabinet.. add a mirror there... u can get the unbreakable safe glass... and... bonus tip... make a velcro shade for door so u have bathroom privacy without closing the bathroom door.. just get a piece of fabric.. fabric glue some seams around d four edges.. attach velcro.. so it's easy up.. easy off.. nothing really to store

  • @bethwillers1173

    I agree to remove the valance to open cabinet door completely. You could add a shade to the door window for privacy I'm and near the bathroom.

    You mentioned that you would like a different type of slide out topper, what about the metal roll up type used for truck beds? Granted they will be bigger and heavier, but they won't flap in the wind and still keep debris off the top of the slide out. Maybe they can make a thinner lightweight version?

  • @sherrymattingly4309

    Sorry we're lagging behind a bit. Wonder if you could run a dedicated circuit from you inverter which allow wire concealment if you came up under the cabinets into pop up receptacles mounted in the counter top? We have a 2017 CRV S225rbs which has a very similar floorplan to your 22fqs. As we don't full time I just added a port for a 20 amp cord to shore power and put in one pop up near the right of the sink and one just to the right of the stove. I wish I'd put one in near the bottom of the refrigerator cabinet for an oil heater. May not be to hard to go back and add it though. Really love a lot of the niceties your newer trailer has. Especially the frame/suspension. Got us thinking about painting! That's a lot of work! Our slide came with a 3 sided dinette. We took it out, turned the table and are currently using swivel rocker deck chairs. I have an eye on the European style swivel, rocker, recliners from Lippert. We're going to the Gulf coast for a couple months trying to avoid some weather. That'll help us make that decision... Recent subscriber. Have caught a few here and there. Keep up the good work

    The single most important factor in any RV is quality. Poor quality will lead to frustration, tears, and inconvenience regardless of floor plan or glitzy features. High quality always costs more and is always worth it. It sometimes takes owning two or three rigs before this painful lesson is learned. Spoken fro experience.

    We have the same bathroom configuration and had the factory move the toilet forward 6-9 inches so you don't bang your arms on the walls. Tip - take your bulky items like down jackets/sweaters and place them in pillowcases and dual use them. You gave up so much storage when you put the batteries under the bed. Love the paint job.

    My wife and I started out with a 28’ travel trailer and immediately knew it was not going to work because of storage. So after using it 1 time we traded in for a 30’ fifth wheel. Best thing we ever did. It was actually shorter than the TT because of the overhang over the truck. No matter what you have there will always be issues

    The slider and eating. You may be able to get a van builder or someone to shorten the one front seat and retrofit the table or have the corner cut like a triangle (non 45%). Then you can step up and round the end of the sink counter better.

    Good points. We painted our 24' OutdoorsRV inside walls as well and removed all of the valences. Really brightens the place up. For power issue you can add another outlet off of microwave outlet into the bottom of that upper cabinet so you can run both of those appliances at same time.

    On those slides, I think it is important to note that when you have a Schwintek slide or cable driven you have to worry about that fact more, than if you had a rack and pinion slide.

  • @allonsy9808

    Oh man, I HATE those valances too. I've taken them off of every rv I've had that used them. So annoying! As for blowing breakers...it's not just your RV. I currently have a 36'+ 5th wheel, and they've done the same thing. Coffee pot across the kitchen at the coffee bar, and toaster oven at the other side...can't run both--even when hooked up to shore power. I don't know who designs the electrical systems in RV's...but I think it's the same person and she or he has never cooked in an RV. LOL I'm looking to downsize to the ORV Back Country Series 20BD (it's the only line within the ORV family that seems to have this floorplan), so I appreciate your review of the manufacturer too.

    Could you add a mirror to the back of the bathroom door so that you are turned sideways and then have arm room? I have the same problem in our truck camper - I step out of the bathroom and use the mirror on the bathroom door instead of the one in the bathroom - Way more Elbow room!

  • @k-mparker

    Niiiice review of your coach!!! Short and concise. I think you should get a bit bigger RV -fifth wheel that has a couch with more living space to accommodate Loui. Another plus in a bit bigger coach is that you’ll have more wardrobe storage plus more storage in general. Further, a bit bigger coach will allow you to still boondock like you guys are doing. We have a 48’ toy hauler and boondock a lot and find it not a “big” challenge. Just my 2 cents…keep the gooood videos rolling!!!

    Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! We have been traveling in our Outdoors RV 21KVS for 3+ years (2-4 months at a time) and are planning to go full time soon. We also love the smaller versatility of that model. We travel with our 2 Boston Terriers (at almost 30 lbs, one is big for the breed). Yes, when the slide is in, it's a dance to keep from stepping on them sometimes, but they usually hang out on the bed or on the dinette benches. On travel days, they get a good walk before we leave in the morning and when we stop for the night, as well as short walks when we stop for breaks, which helps them be more chill. We do overnight at Cracker Barrel, Walmart, etc. but haven't yet overnighted anywhere we couldn't use the slide out.

  • @KRich408

    Our Winibago Mini plus we not even our cat can get into the bedroom when the slide is closed, we "I think" can use the dinette table and the recliners in the slide, and the bathroom, we have not dry camped in a parking lot yet but it's going to happen eventually. Also our windows are tinted so dark from the factory you can't see inside during the day at night that's a different story.

    A possible for your bedroom cabinet door. Cut the door into two parts. Hinge the top part as is. Either put the lower door hinge on the RH edge to pull open past the rail. Or make a door with two hinges to hinge as usual, and then hinge again like a knee to bend past the rail. DIY, or have someone make them up. Hope that helps. Kevin

    Great review. We are in our second Outdoors RV. First one was a 23 RKS. It was awesome, but wanted a little something bigger. We bought our friends 26 KVS. We love it! The windows are so awesome. Who wouldn’t love a beautiful view while you cook? The disadvantage is with those big beautiful windows, you will notice the camper being a little cooler in cold weather and a little warmer in hot weather.

  • @kenmcclow8963
    @kenmcclow8963 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the mirror problem, I was thinking maybe you could move the hinges to the other side and have the cabinet door open somewhat so you could stand away from the wall and still see. Maybe have an arm to hold the mirror at the right angle if it won't stay.
    For the window in the outside door, maybe a roll up cloth velcroed above that you could let down and cover the window when in the bathroom. Then you can roll it up and velcro it closed when you want to see through it.
    I like that trailer and brand, but I am not a fan of slides, although the extra space looks nice.

    Nice review. As far as the dangling wires above the stove. If you don't feel up to adding a plug to the microwave circuit you could drill a hole in the bottom of the cabinet that you could run your cord through to get to the microwave outlet.

    After owning several travel trailers we are now looking at the 248RBS by coachmen. It has the sofa you said you missed and easier access when the slide is in. We prefer the separate bedroom since my wife and I have different sleep habits. We also like the outside kitchen which we may end up using for storage. Unfortunately it seems like you have to live in them for a while in order to figure out what you want! And there will always be compromises!

    I have the same pro and cons on our 21RBS ORV Mountain as you both have. Except my bathroom does not have a shower door so I have a little more elbow room. We have less room (only 21 ft. and have a full-grown German Shepherd and we are totally happy with our little home that we live full time in. The kitchen drawers are a huge issue with me they are totally chipped and marred up and we are past our one-year warranty. I do wish we could have use of the table when the slide in the in position. We did have an issue with the slide where it was off track, and we needed to have a RV repair person fix it. But all and all we love our little trailer that we feel very comfortable towing and living in. Great review, I happy that you are both happy with your new home.

    Although I am guessing Arron you are more than capable of tying into your Microwave circuit and installing a plug. A really solid quick and safe fix is to purchase a Bluettie or other brand solar generator so Irene can use both or more appliances depending on the unit size.
    I am running a Bluettie AC200max with the 30 amp connection as well as AC, DC and all the usb connections. The Max is strong enough and does power my microwave or air conditioner perfectly. It can be charged with solar, AC or DC or any combo simultaneously with the ability to suck in 900watts. Lots choices out there.

    I have a solution for your outlets in the kitchen.
    You could put a larger breaker in, but you'll need to have the batteries or solar or combination of the two to supply additional power to those breakers.

  • @guywood67

    Looks like you may have an extra slot or two in your breaker panel where you could add an additional breaker and then run the wire to a new outlet on the side of the counter facing the door. I think that would be the best vs trying to tie into an existing circuit

    Unsolicited advice alert 😇 : Getting rid of the dark window shades and valances might add to what you've already done to lighten space. May I suggest Roman shades. They will soften the space and solve the issue with the closet. Hang the shade on the shorter window at the same height as the one opposite for symmetry and to give the illusion that both windows are the same height. Just don't roll the short side all the way up past the window when you open it, so as not to expose the wall behind it. Hope that made sense. 😊

    Hi Chris and Aaron! Awesome comments about your 22FQS! Wow...I can't believe it has been 7 months already. I definitely agree with all of your comments for your situation. For us, we do really like the trailer, overall. My wife has commented that she says it feels bigger inside (with the slide out) than our former 32ft bunkhouse model with its slide out. We really like the cargo carrying capacity of these floor plans. We also really like the kitchen, as you two do. I also like the indoor storage; but don't like having just 1 external storage. Dislikes- space is just a hair too small, when the slide out is in, to easily pass up and down the aisleway. Also, due to keeping our trailer smaller, such as yours, we do miss a couch or theater seats. And, I would favor an "across the whole back" bathroom; however, i really like that coat closet when you walk in the door. With regards to the interior colors, they have not bothered us as with you two. However, as you iterate, your trailer is your full time house; ours is just a week or so per month.
    On my first camping trip with our trailer, I was able to access a pretty challenging forest service road that I suspect would definitely not let lesser capable rigs traverse. The extra clearance of these rigs is awesome!
    Safe travels!

    My wife would have simply moved me to the opposite side (LOL) of the bed and I'd have gone to make her life more comfortable. you could just swap clothes cabinets? Maybe a stupid question, but did you check the gauge of your wire? If it is 12, you should be able to replace 15amp breaker with a 20, who knows, maybe you'll get lucky. I doubt it, but can't hurt to check. The other solution would be to add a new plug below the microwave cabinet?

  • @marymccaskill6536

    I would not upgrade because of Louis. Before you know it, he will mature. You'll be able to leave him loose in your trailer (if he won't crate train; I never was able to crate train a dog older than 2 months). He'll stop chewing after teething is over. You'll be able to trust his house training. Even in a cramped space he'll find a corner. We traveled with an English setter in a 15 ft trailer.
    Can't wait to see where you stay in Florida. We hope to do some car camping next winter there.

    Some ideas about the bathroom mirror ..... could you change the cabinet door so that it opens right to left? Then by opening it slightly, it would enable you to stand more in the center of the room when fixing your hair. Or mount a second mirror on the offending wall, or a full length mirror on the bathroom door? Also, maybe you should remove the window valances by your bed entirely. They're just dust collectors anyway. Then, if you want, you could get a couple of boards, some padding, some anything-but-brown fabric, and a staple gun and make your own, which could be mounted more flush to the walls.

    Nice update. We just finished a trip from Iowa to Utah in our 2022 rks Mountain Series, wow what a solid unit. We could not get over how quite it was inside compared you our previous trailer. We credit the thicker walls and insulation as well as dual payne windows. We had 23 degrees with snow and 90s with sun and were always comfy.
    Could you drill a hole in bottom of cabinet under microwave and run cord thru to the outlet?

    What do you think of the gray exterior color and do the fancy windows allow adequate flow? Also, are the leveling jacks still working?

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We like the gray 👍 It sticks out from the sea of white and brown RVs. The awning style windows do not have as much flow as the standard windows do, but they work great with the Max air fan to bring in cool air in. Level jacks are working and do take a bit too get used too, but we like Them.

    Would it be possible to do some wood work and bring out the RIGHT side of the mirror? RV refrigerators are very inefficient. Since you have the solar and big battery bank you might consider going with a residential refrigerator. Residential refrigerator are about 30% more efficient than RV refrigerators, I replaced mine about seven years ago.
    Glad you like your trailer but one thing I wash you would quit saying... "...our RV...". That is you HOME, not you RV. Just the same way my 40" diesel motorhome is my HOME and not my RV.

    Hey Guys, for the purpose of being able to run your induction cooker and your air fryer at the same time, have you thought about using your Jackery or similar unit to power that ? At least the extension cord would be coming from the floor instead of hanging over the stove.

    • @IreneIronTravels

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did a video covering this a while ago ( th-cam.com/video/o2lu-SXQWsA/w-d-xo.html ) , but the main means for ORV is the 10k GVWR, big tanks 70f, 40g, 40b, 2 in think walls, thermo pane windows, high ground clearance, shocks and 3in suspension, 16 in wheels, and the layout worked best for us with big kitchen, etc. Black series is interesting, but a little small for full time living and not 4 season.

      @@IreneIronTravels All excellent reasons! I have the same truck 22 Ford F350 Tremor with the diesel. Just curious what kind of fuel mileage you're getting pulling your trailer? I get 9-10 pulling my 5th wheel toyhauler. I've been thinking of downsizing, but the truck handles the trailer very well, I love it! My trailer has 160 gallons of fresh water, 2 black tanks at 116 gallons and 2 gray tanks at 96. I think you guys could be out awhile in my rig HAHA.

    What do you guys think of the new Ember RVs? I'm guessing they're too new for you to have considered when you were originally doing your new RV search? Is it something you guys would have considered?

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the Embers weren’t quite out yet when we were shopping I think. They do look like nicely built RV’s but are probably a bit too small for us. Looks like the biggest is around 22 ft. Also the gvwr and cargo capacity look to be about half of what we have now. In my opinion they would be good for a solo full timer( or minimal couple) or a good weekend or vacation RV for small families. We still haven’t seen one out in the real world yet!

    Great update. Kind of screwed up your storage putting the batteries under the bed, but they had to go somewhere. We put so much stuff under our bed. Speaking of batteries, what’s the lowest you’ve drained them down and how long did it take to recharge them?

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah, the bed storage would be nice! Our pass through is pretty loaded up as well. I think we could do a big clean out and get rid of about 20% of our stuff! We’ve gotten the batteries down to single digits before running the AC. It took about 8 hours to fully charge up at a campground!

It seems huge for us at that time, but after five years in it we are ready for our next rv which is a 43 feet 5th wheel toy hauler so we can have 4 wheeler to venture our destination(especially boondocking in the desert) where our truck can't go.
