    Clean the area with a good RV roof cleaner and use Eternabond Tape to seal it. The Eternabond tape will outlive the roof in most cases.

      Yes! That’s exactly what we did. It definitely seems solid for now. It is on the edge so we’re keeping an eye on it

      @@wildrvlifeIt will be fine! Some people will edge their entire roof with Eternabond.
      It could have been much worse. We had 25 feet rip along the edge in a storm and then had to dry it off the next morning and use Eternabond to secure and seal it. As small as your tear, you can leave it with the Eternabond and will have no trouble.

    Just a bit of advice, I have been driving tractor trailers for over 32 years. In watching your videos I have noticed you seem to stay in your lane when making turns. First always look ahead and be safe, and you can approach your turns and make a much wider turn. It's OK if you safely get into the other lane and make a much wider turn. You will be surprised by how much easier it is. Be safe.

    My "bride" of 41 years and I have been camping ever since we got married. Started with a pickup box shell, to a popup, travel trailers and then fifth wheels. We are now on our 7th camper. We consider ourselves pros by now, and yet we still have an "oops" now and then. We have learned over the years, just like our partnership in marriage, that when "stuff" happens to the camper we take it on as a team, just like you two do. If nothing else mishaps make for great campfire stories... As others below have said, don't beat yourself up for things that can be fixed. And Eternabond Tape is your friend and will last for years. How great it is for you at such a young age to follow you dreams and passions to be on the road together and making fantastic memories. My hats off to you both!!

    As everyone else has told you. Eternabond tape and 90% isopropyl alcohol to clean the area. Be sure to allow the alcohol to flash off and you'll be golden for years. You'll find the eternabond at a commercial roofing supply dealer. Always have a roll in a travel bag. Safe travels you two. Keep it between the lines and grounded.

    If you want to conserve on the black tank when boondocking consider what we have done for years. We usually stay at our spot for 2-3 weeks. It may be gross to some, but it is what it is. We urinate in one of those his and hers plastic bottles found on Amazon. At some point we wander in the woods and away from our neighbor's we dump it. You will be surprised how much it cuts down on the black tank from filling. We also have a small bucket in the shower and catch the excess water when bringing the water up to temp. We then use this water for flushing the toilet when needed.

    My husband says that people definitely should be wearing shoes while driving in case of emergency.
    We were in a similar situation last week where branches scratched the top and sides of our trailer. We had to get on the roof while the branches were stuck in the solar panels. It was so nerve racking wondering what damage was done. I guess we need to carry a polesaw with us. Hope your roof can be fixed easily. Thanks for sharing your videos. We watch every week and follow you on Instagram.

    NO DEAL, like everyone is saying. THAT IS A EASY fix. I did that on my other RV, I did the tape. IT LASTED 5 years till sold it. And it still look ok. The new buyer said it was good to him, he was going to put some free-floating RV sealant on it. Good to go. And I don’t think your insurance company will do a new roof for that.

We took it to Affinity RV Group in Goshen, Indiana where the adjuster came and worked with them on the estimate and repair. 3 days in and out for a brand new roof that actually looked better than the original. They are the BEST in the country at repairs. If insurance pays for the roof it should cover the cost of them removing and replacing the panels. Ps, im Wendy's husband that won the giveaway!! I fabricated a mount for my backup rv camera screen that mounts in the RAM dash recess uding the factory 2 center screen mount screws. I shortened the monitor cable and plugs into the upper 12v outlet.

    Like said, eternabond and it will be good. I carry a 6"x 10ft roll with me. I did the same thing when my RV was new. Take the rail loose and run tape underneath. Put some dicor on the edges so they don't curl up later. Done deal. Mine has lasted over 3 years and still holding up , its a much stronger material than the roof material.

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lots of people are saying the eternabond should be fine! Good to hear yours has lasted 3 years! Still makes us a little nervous it being on the edge but that eternabond material is very strong

    • @bounderchris
      @bounderchris 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wildrvlifethat’s what the eternabond is for and in fact it’s a horrible pain to remove it’s so good. Years down the road IF it starts to look bad you just put another one over it after taking the white part off and the old eternabond sets in with the new. Some people use it instead of lap sealant around all of the vents and accessories so they don’t ever have to do anything else… for me that’s a little too much because what happens if you need to replace a vent…

  • @robaanerud
    @robaanerud 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Eternabond! I’m sure this will happen again so hold off on a roof replacement.
    If you all are going to boondock a lot that RV will be taking a beating. I never would have got a new rig to boon dock in but that’s me. A rig like that should just be going to parks. But good luck, love the 5th wheel.

    Eternabond will fix that easy! That's just a lil snag. Do all the edges all the way around the unit and all openings to ladder, a/c's and vents and it'll all be fine. We bought a new 2023 GD and the 1st thing we did was eternabond every edge. It also allows the eternabond to take that initial hit rather than the TPO membrane. You'll be fine....

    I would recommend to get a forever roof that's what we did I scraped along some trees and damage the side of my rig and we went and got the forever roof it's a hard spray on roof and they also pull everything off for you and put everything back on that's what I would recommend

    Dude I did the same thing. Momentum 395 43’ fifth. Was in a parking lot parking to eat lunch and wasn’t paying attention. Hit a tree and ripped the front corner. I used eternabond tape to repair yes I know I need to replace the roof and I will but that tape is really good stuff and for the moment I’m not worried about it. It sucks but it is what it is.

    Properly prepared, eternabond will definitely give you a permanent fix . The cleaning and trimming of the area is key. Oh and don’t think for a minute you are alone in damaging your roof. I know some boon dockers carry a set if pruning poles in a abs tube mounted on the belly of the rig, you need two pole so you can clear to 15 feet . If you Fail to plan…plan to fail. Good luck.
