Pick up the V8 Troopy on Saturday , ordered it 2 years ago and Toyota rang me on on the weekend to tell me the bad news that we won't be getting the V8 we ordered , we got lucky as the second dealership that I looked at on-line had a Sandy Taupe just listed brand new for sale , deposit went down and paid the rest yesterday.
    Talk about fortunate. 😊
Happy travels see you on the dirt.

    I had 8 years in a HJ61 (12H-T) followed later by 7 years in a HDJ79 (1HD-FTE) followed by 6 years in a VDJ200 and now 5 years to date in a VDJ78.
All great iconic motors, but if I when it comes to getting a new replacement again, I'd go the 4 cyl Troopy - bit more room in the engine bay, easier to work on, same power as the V8 and parts will be plentiful. I'd probably take it with a manual which sounds like it will be the strong 5 speed H series box, and I prefer the manual and the better offroad fuel consumption that comes with it. And I prefer a Troopy to a Hilux or Prado because I like the Troopy lifestyle and it is a great remote travel vehicle with stronger rigid axles and 180L of fuel.

    • @BAWAutomotive

Yeah, Troopys are great remote camping 4WDs. More room in the engine bay will also be nice

Ordered the 2.8 troopy last month. Will use it for weekenders and daily runner. Wanted the 4 cyl for better fuel efficiency, and all the reviews said it was a better engine anyway (not that I had a choice). The only thing missing was the manual option. Which is now a thing! so might change my order to get the manual instead. Sweet!

I still think that Toyota should work on the old 6-cylinder 1HZ engine, make some changes to have more horsepower, torque and economy, because to this day it is one of the best engines that this version has ever had or use the engine from the LC 300 wouldn't be bad at all but only time will tell what will happen from now on.

Would be cheaper to just buy a 2nd hand V8, still plenty of near new and low kms examples around and will be around for years to come, the price however will increase on the v8 in the used market though. You could buy new v8 from the dealer right now if you're willing to buy the extra $15k mark up, some of them even offer to do pre reg mods for you before they sell it to you as a *air quotes* used vehicle.

Landcruisers have aways been big motors! Just saying. My fuel economy in my 2020 seems to be no worse than the 2.8 auto. So I don’t get it. Its a euro 5? Or 4. Not sure with a dpf. Dpf works perfectly. I think we are playing a silly game of bs. Yes its not fast but it feels solid as.

Toyota Global (Japan) announced themselves back in October 2021 that they had ceased manufacturing the VD engine and retooled the factory for V6 production. This coincided with the last VD 200 series coming off the line in August of 2021, which left only one very low production volume vehicle using that engine, the 70 series.
