What a great, eventful and exciting race! I also think we've been witness to a historical first ever simulated mechanical problem in simracing... at least on this channel :D. Still, a fantastic effort to be able to claw your way up as far as to P4 after that unfortunate mishap, Dave! This was a most impressive! comeback. Also, you certainly didn't need to beat yourself up so much for that -- you hit the button by accident (that happens), and you had no way of knowing what happened. You thought that we knew it, but we didn't either! -- I think that modelling of dashboards has always been one of RF2's weak points, but it's pretty shocking that it comes so far as not to have have the dashboard show any indication of the pit-limiter being engaged! Heck, when you look at any real-life or iRacing-modelled dashboard of a race car, the pit-limiter warning is the most glaring signal that ever comes up on it!
One thing RF2 does really well is the amount of play in the tyres and how easy it is to save a slide . I joined LFM after your BTCC race and had my first win at Daytona yesterday 😀
So glad to see someone as experienced as you make a mistake like that, because I've done that more than a couple of times. The worst part was the first time it happened I couldn't remember what button I set to it on iRacing so I had to reset and change the keybind while I was getting towed around Watkins...
Congrats Dave for your 4th. Keeping your mental composure after your limiter mistake enabled you to achieve your comeback success.👍 Thanks for my laughing hysterics too😁
I applaud him too. However, I drive by ALWAYS trying to make the best of it and not throw in the towel, no matter how crap things go! Most of the time, I'm surprised with the result and end up with an interesting race nonetheless :)
This was amazing to watch. Honestly, no idea how the people at Bentley thought having no kind of indicator for PL was a good idea. You need to set up that physical dashboard asap! More of this Dave! Had some good laughs with your jokes on the straighs too xD
Great race! Good to see you in Rf2 at last. Like you said, its got it all, except decent mirrors. I did watch the whole lot without forwarding, so throw the family a bone on me. Oh yeah, most of us have done the pit limiter thing at least once. And... happy to see I'm not the only one who gets random Crew Chief pitstop requests toward the end of races.
You need to find out how different tyres and compunds perform on a per car/track basis, even in the same class. BTCC tyres for example are designed for 20 minute races while GT3 or GTE tyres will perform over longer stints. That said, it also depends on the ambient and track conditions. During night time the track will cool down more for example and make soft tires perform longer. Before choosing the tires make sure to take a look at the ambient and track temps. Another tip: soft tires are more sensetive to sliding and spinning compared to medium or hard tires, so you will flatspot more easily not just from locking up tires during braking but also due to sliding. You can also play with the fuel mixture settings in the GT cars to save fuel btw. Other than that, very entertaining race. Just needed some rain. :P
I'm at 43:50... where do I send the groceries donation for your family? lol. Seriously, no fast-forwarding for me. The track can be empty and it's still a blast to watch as you're racing the track itself. I swear I'm sure you're going to crash every other turn but you catch it the last moment. Great driving.
All 8 vertical lights on the left and right hand side of your dash came on briefly at 06:48 and were gone before 06:49 - That was your only warning. Yeah, The relative was a bit of a yo-yo but tightened up as you got closer to the guy in front, so no major harm done. The kerb shapes and slopes, and kerb pulls seemed more real to me here than in other sims, so be wary of them but you did go over lots of them and I'm surprised your rims didn't have kerb rash by the end, lol. Good drive - twitchy though, and not your generally somewhat smoother style. Surprised you still haven't taken me up on my offer of a headband/sweatband. rofl.
Nice recovery Dave but there was only one person to blame for that one. I use the P button on the McLaren rim which as you know needs a really good press to activate, so no accidental activations for me. Do you remember me saying that I never thought I would learn Nords some time last year? Well I did manage it and I actually enjoy driving it. Keep them coming. 👍
So I was the leading (and winning hehe) BTCC Corolla and when I saw that Corvette spun in the gravel trap at Aremberg and you slowing down at Fuchsorohre, I actually thought you practiced the 'genetelmen's rule' by slowing down and waiting for the guy you punted to catch back up. I had no idea you had a pit limiter issue. 😂
Such a great video. I am itching to get back on!!! I just sold my csl dd and v3 and bought into simagic with the new fx wheel and heusinkveld sprints. I can’t wait!!!! It’ll be all set up by end of week.
The Bentley sounds a trillion times better in ACC for sure, that's the one thing i truly love about ACC, its all so visceral in everything it does. Glad to see RF2 on LFM though, it's always nice having more options out there.
I also had a Zero IQ moment lately. I was in my second ever lfm race, BTCC, my first ever race in rF2 with rain. You were also driving that race. I spun, damaged the car and thought I would use the chance to get new tyres and forgot to change the rear axis from standard setting to rain tyres in the pit options. I had rain tyres on the front and mediums on the rear. Had to pit again instantly, doin my slowest lap in the race. Well at least I finished and was not last of the driving cars.
10th to almost last back to 4th 🤣 in saying that the pit limiter might of saved that little bit of fuel for the finish, nice race. consistency is faster than speed :)
PIT LIM button is now renamed ENTERTAINMENT+ button 😁👍 it's always good to watch you work through the pack, you make it look good 😉👍 nice drive Dave 😉👍
What an insane drive. I thoroughly enjoyed that. The overlay situation is bad. ..and that relative drives me nuts. Great racing makes up for it though.
LFM server missed the server setting for the rolling start. In the dedicated server GUI, there is "rolling" and "fast rolling" which truncates the formation lap.
TinyPedal has an overlay that indicates if your limiter is engaged, alongside the gear number. I think it's the 'Gear' widget. I suspect the limiter can get triggered by bumps as it happened to me over a bump, like you, but my limiter button can't be hit by accident.
Wow, who would have thought that after all that you would only finish 3 tenths behind P3! Good recovery Dave, it’s funny to see you make rookie mistakes sometimes, mate 😂😂😉
When I tried LFM on rFactor last night I was getting Crew Chief twice about 1/2 a second apart and the game ran terribly. It was as though I was running the game twice. I tried joining the server with the game running, and without and it was the same both times. In normal multiplayer, or singleplayer its fine, its just when trying to join the LFM server. Where can I find the password for servers instead of joining from the LFM website? I'm hoping that might solve it
Great content, rFactor2 and LFM seems to be a lot of fun :-). If you're still looking for an overlay, check out the following on Racedepartment: Simhub Overlay - "ACC" - RFactor2 HUD 1.1 It's an ACC lookalike HUD that should provide all relevant information.
This sim looks and sounds a hell of a lot better than ACC IMO. If LFM does this properly, focusing on all classes & track types then this sim could have massive potential. There’s so much variety on RF2 that ACC can’t compete with. Unfortunately, the last time I installed and ran this sim there were just too many bugs for me to stick with it. I’m an iracing guy through and through but I would love to give this a go.
