UNC Asheville - APR Proposal - June 13, 2024

During a historically challenging period for higher education, schools everywhere are making hard choices as they assess what they do best and what matters most to them. So, too, at UNC Asheville, which sees a civic and ethical responsibility to reinforce and grow the University for generations of students, families, and communities depending on us - both today and in the years to come.
After a thorough academic portfolio review, we found that five of our 27 academic departments accounted for only 4 percent of the University’s recent graduates. After careful consideration, we are recommending the phasing out Ancient Mediterranean Studies, Drama, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, as well as curtailing the French and German concentrations in Languages and Literatures. This proposal will go before the UNC System Board of Governors for consideration in July 2024. More details are available on our Asheville 2030 webpage.
