I was lucky enough to drive one of these to the Isle of Man from the South coast of England and back many years ago - the engine is an absolute gem and it still feels remarkably well balanced and the high speed handling is sweet. If you're over 6'2" you might have to look elsewhere.
I drooled when they came out and I still drool. This guy is a true driver/fan that deserves this car! The knowlege he's compiling and sharing is wonderful.
Good man for taking it to the track. I absolutely HATE people who buy limited number sports cars like this and then just use them as sunday drivers to show off the size of their pocketbook. Give them to people who really give a damn about the vehicle they drive!
Nope, an I6, 3.5l. There are some weird things, though, for example the Wiki page doesn't mention the 3.5l I6 as an engine option, but I've seen several E34 535s in my life. I think it was the S38 (the same as in the M5, only with lower power figures) engine code, but the power figures seem to differ. This is sort of a BMW engine knot that I can't untangle :D
The M88 engine in the M1 found it's last incarnation in the E34 3.8L M5 (S38B38 engine code). The E28/E34 535i used the M30 engine was a similar block but with a single cam on top. The M88/S38 had a twin cam head, but you can retrofit them to M30's with an adapter plate I believe. It's sort of like how BMWs M42 is kinda based on the M40, but there's not much part interchangeability.
