Personally for me portable 3rd was and still an amazing game just sadly it never got enough content like freedom unite did, it's still a fun psp game especially fighting against the unique zinogre
Nice review. Portable 3rd was my "first" Monster Hunter game, I tried Freedom Unite first but I honestly just can't with that game. On the other hand, Portable 3rd is one of my favorite games ever. Even as a Hunting Horn main I completed every quest and only ever played solo and I don't even consider myself great at the game. Long Sword is definitely overpowered in this game as it tends to be in most games from what I hear and I used it for most of my playthrough as a secondary weapon to cut monsters' tails, but I just really love the Hunting Horn in this game, it's SO satisfying and fun to use. Even using mostly the Hunting Horn, hub quests never felt too hard, I almost never even used items for most of it other than healing items and whetstones, and I only started using damage buffing items at the very end of the hub quests and I was even able to stop using those as I got better at the game. So, if you have the time, you should really try playing more of Portable 3rd since all High-Rank monsters are, imo, way more fun than their Village and Low-Rank counterparts.
Monster hunter 4 ultimate junto com Freedom Unite e Portable 3rd estão no topo dos melhores da franquia na minha opinião.. Parabéns pelo ótimo review do jogo.
There's yet another thing you can do with Nibelsnarf. When he's underground, place a barrel bomb and throw a sonic bomb at the barrel. The Nibelsnarf will attack the barrel from underground and swallow it as well!
I think the story, for what it is, is delivered really well. SPOILERS AHEAD: Yukumo Village is dealing with far more monster incursions. This starts with low level beasts like Jaggi, Bullfango, and Arzuros. But, eventually, the powerful Zinogre starts causing trouble. Once you finally hunt him down, the incursions do not cease. The guild identifies the problem as Amatsu, an Elder Dragon which has taken up residence deep in the Misty Peaks. Amatsu exists in a storm, and through no fault of its own, has made the area around its new home uninhabitable. The ecological disaster in the region puts pressure on the monsters to seek new habitats. You slay the Amatsu. This fight is sad because Amatsu is ultimately a peaceful monster who has done nothing wrong intentionally. Imagine if you were born, and every day of your life it rains. You would not think this is anything out of the ordinary. Its theme reflects the sadness of having to kill this innocent beast. It's minimalist, but the story is there and I believe more effective than MH Tri with all its dialogue boxes.
@@KingRobRool I hope so! Like I said, the story is pretty subtle. It's delivered with hints and slight amounts of dialogue. This is a hallmark of old-school Monster Hunter games, where they imply matters more than outright telling you.
imported this game and been playing it on ps3. i cant speak or read japanese but ive beat low rank and am about to enter high rank in the hub. this is such a wonderful game
Ah yes~ That disappointment with not having Underwater was so d*mn relatable. I played this game back in High School (with my friends) and absolutely love the game. (Not knowing it can still have a lot more to offer) Fast forward to Senior High and we go back to this game every so often, I've discovered that the first game of 3rd Gen. had Underwater and more monsters not included in Portable 3rd. I was ever so slightly disappointed about it. Still love the game though. Heck! I've lost plenty of save files with this game and I don't mind starting from the beginning. That's just how much I love this game. But after discovering Tri and 3 Ultimate, it could've been better than it already is. 🤦 (Gosh! I just want to try Underwater Combat. I think that adds to the immersive experience of the games. Sucks that it didn't make a return on the later titles.)
Thank you very much for this!!! I’m at work on a break but I cannot wait to watch this when I get home!! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on portable 3rd 😄

I just finished this gem a week or so ago and OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS GAME!! It was my 2nd old school title after GU, I started with Worldborne, played rise until I was bored and decided to give oldschool a chance. GU felt kind of overwhelming so I decided to go for P3RD instead, which was an EXCELLENT choice! This game is remarkably approachable, ironically given its japanese exclusive status as a PSP game. Also, yes, mapping right stick to DPAD on emulator is a godsend, I know claw grip vets will hate it but it is what it is. It's also very clear to me how much this game was called back to when they were making Rise. Amatsu reminded me a lot of Narwa and Ibushi. And you get to fight Alatreon as well! Due tot he effort of hunsterverse, the game is also fully playable online with a dedicated community surrounding it.
* Zinogre = Magnamalo * Amatsu = Narwa/Ibushi * Both Zinogre and Magnamalo were chasing their respective Elder Dragons for reasons * Japanese themes * P3rd Flooded Forest * P3rd Desert Rise is modern day P3rd
I loved portable 3rd so much, the only monster I haven’t seen yet was Alatreon, that needed me to do every double monster quest iirc. I love this game but not so much I’d fight deviljho and another monster back to back.
Play it on high rank and with your friend. It is so damn good. Especially fighting elder dragon akantor, ukanlos, amatsu and one of the black dragon alatreon 😊

I understand the g rank part as it adds a whole ton more content but this is still an amazing game to play with a unique way of preparing for a quest instead of just eating at a kitchen you instead have a hotspring and drinks which you upgrade through their own quests
