Great review! I love this mic! Bought it bc of good reviews and it was a cheap risk, but holy moly, easily the best mic I ever worked with! Easiest to mix, sounds good on everything. I use a UA LA-610. The mic never sounds harsh, always smooth, silky, open, rich... and figure 8 is phenomenal. I would easily buy another one over C414, Warm audio, TLM 03, Shure KSM 32, etc.. bc I had them, even built a few 87/67/ and 47 style clones and this makes them all unnecessary (for me). I only use them bc I feel bad they’re sitting around haha. The V4 just sounds better. I’d like to try the V13 but don’t really see a need at this point. Maybe I'll check out the Vanguard SDC’s too. Really though, If you have this mic, you’re good! If you have this mic, a good ribbon, an SM7b or 57, and a pair of quality SDC's, I believe you'd be set for anything.

I'm looking to get a new go to for vocals and acoustic instruments. I have my eyes set on the Warm Audio 47jr-- which has a nice vintage body and presence, with a smoother top end to reduce sibilance than most cheaper condenser mics. The other mic I was looking at was the was the Lauten Audio 220 which to my ears performs very similarly to the Warm Audio-- but has the versatile low and high pass switches. This Vanguard V4 is catching my interest now too, wondering if you have any input on how it compares in practical use-- looking to be able to record smooth vintage sounding vocals and piano/acoustic guitar.

Thanks Scott, I put these off for so long sometimes because they can tend to be a lot of work, but I’m happy how it turned out and I’ve got it down pretty smooth and can produce these in a couple hours.

Thanks George! I appreciate the in-depth review, and now I have to cut up the mic sleeve and make a Covid mask :D -DEREK

Hey Derek, I'm interested in the V4 but wonder how it holds up to say warm audio's wa47 jr? I want to get a go to condenser that reduces sibilance and has a warm vintage freq response for vocals.

Hi Jack, we’re getting more parts in shortly (starting next week!) to build more of these puppies. Also, several dealers should have our stock if you hit the “find a dealer’ page. Thanks for your interest! -DEREK
