    I've been dealing with this for about 20 years, im currently 34. Twice a year. Lasting anywhere from 2 weeks to usually 2 to 3 months at a time. Some days its a few flutters others its going all day. If something comes to close to my eye like my hand or anything being thrown, even if I get hit from playing around, it will set it off to twitch like crazy. I don't know what makes it stop or go away. Always felt it was a seasonal thing. But then I thought it was stress or lack of sleep. I honestly don't know. I don't drink coffee or tea. I know I've already struggled with sleep. Maybe it could be a combination of thing like lack of sleep & stress. As of lately I've able to get more sleep, just waiting on it to stop.

    • @MartinTheOptometrist

      Let’s hope it stops soon. I think you are right it’s likely to be a combination of stress and environmental factors that have built up over time. It is a bit strange in your case the fact that it happens same time of the year and for so many years.

      This is the same thing for me at school it is very bad and the twitching has developed over quarantine. I know how to trigger it also by blinking hard and it also pops up at random times and when things comes close to my face for example if someone hugs me or pretends to punch me when I flinch is triggers it and it’s annoying. @@clairekershaw8903 hi it’s been about 1-2 weeks since I have taken the magnesium and speaking of today I’ve seen some changes. At times when I would expect my eyes to twitch it didn’t. I recommend not constantly taking them until u see changes. Try taking a break with the supplements as you do not want to over take. At the beginning I was taking 2 a day then after like 4 days I took one at night as these have 375mg in them which is a lot and more than what you get in your average food. Today I tried squeezing my eyes to see if it twitches and it didn’t twitch at all so I am thankful I will keep updating but I’m happy with what I have right now.

    I have had this eyetwitch/spasm for 3.5months. I sleep pretty well, but have spinal disc problems so right now I take ibuprofen to go to sleep. I need to cut out caffeine! I have always operated at a moderate to high level of stress. I allow myself to stress over challenges because it is usually productive - it helps me solve things quickly. I wouldn't consider myself super stressed right now by any means...there have been far more stressful times in my life. My brother says I'm just getting old, which is true (we all arrive there if we're lucky).
    What's strange with mine is I distinctly remember back in November on the onset of this ailment that I had a stabbing pain so powerful it made me nauseous, it was in the middle of the night, and I thought I was going to be hospitalized. Took about 10 minutes to fully recover but since I've had twitching, and one or two more stabbing pain episodes that were a bit less intense. It feels like there is something in my eye and at night especially I concentrate trying to make sure I'm not moving my eye back and forth or it can cause pain.

I have glasses but didn't wear them much and I haven't been sleeping that well for a while now and I havent been able to exercise as much as i use to because im tired after work. Really trying my hardest to sleep more and I exercise at least on the weekends. I've also brought a warm heat compress to use at bedtime. I'm also taking vitamin C, D and b12.

    Couple months ago I started a new position and the stress/anxiety triggered my lower right lid to spasm. It went away after a while and would come back on occasion. Currently not working. Recently I tried pinching a very VERY tiny bump at that corner (should've left it alone, very vain of me), and I noticed since then that lower lid would spasm more often. It's to the point where I can't even sleep on my right side or else it would trigger the spasm. Stress, sneezing, and squeezing my eyes shut irks it as well. Could I have disrupted a nerve or maybe it's an underlying concern?

    • @MartinTheOptometrist
      @MartinTheOptometrist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Amy, I tend to take into account an individuals lifestyle and whether it is consistent with stress being the cause (it isn't always), as well as how long it has been going on for. If the stress factors are constant then it may make sense that the twitching may continue for a more extended time. I would be suspicious if perhaps after a several weeks of removing all stress factors or if there were no obvious signs of stress to begin with that it may be more of a neurological issue, for which I would refer them on for further investigation. If MS was a concern I'd be looking for other eye related signs and symptoms as well as other general complaints. The worse case of eyelid twitch I have come a cross was actually a lady that I worked with. After many neurological test, including head scans, no sinister cause was found and she was treated with Botox injections to the affected eyelid (redone periodically) and that solved her issue.

    Is botox done by a doctor or optician? Surely it's a lower strength than usual cosmetic botox? I've had eyelid spasms for a little over a year now in one eye, every day, sometimes it's a few times a minute, others it's just a few times a day. I feel like it's making my eyelid become more hooded now 😭 I've limited stress and already practice mindfulness, I consume minimal caffeine and I get loads of sleep. I do however work shifts, 2 days 2 nights 4 off. I use a screen filter at work to reduce blue light glare. I don't know what's causing it but after a year I'm finding it really irritating!

      @@MartinTheOptometrist I appreciate your comment. I consulted an ophthalmologist this week and did some eye tests. I was told that everything is fine, and it could be stress related. My left top eyelid has been twitching periodically for almost the last 2 months. Over the last few days, my lower right eyelid has started feeling numb at times. When it does that, I notice the left top eyelid starts twitching.
    I was more stressed than normal when this started (not anymore), unfortunately work about 50-60 hours a week in front of a computer, and get only around 6 hours of sleep a night. All of those could be factors on why the twitches are still happening.
    I've tried using lubricant eye drops four times a day (which helps for a short time), massaging my eyelid with a warm washcloth, and recently started drinking 16 oz. of tonic water a day as I heard that could help.
    I'm considering going to my eye doctor to get it checked out. Is there any other advice that you'd recommend to eliminate the issue? Thanks!

    Hi I’ve had the twitch in my left eye for about 7-8 weeks now it’s not painfull etc but I’m not sure if that’s normal for it to last this long I have been through a lot of stress etc so not sure if that can be a cause or not thank you

    • @MartinTheOptometrist
      @MartinTheOptometrist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stress is likely to be playing a part. As long as the stress factor is present, you may still get the twitching. If you can manage to get good sleep, this may help.

    I've got this Twitching since Years now. It comes and goes...
    You know those electric Zapper-Pens that you can use for Mosquito stings to stop them from itching ?
    I use it when I've got my left lower Eyelid Twitching.
    ZipZap that Muscle a few times, maybe repeat and it's gone for a while.
    Seems to work....most of the time.🤔
    ...or shouldn't I do that ?
