- Elizabeth Smart was found alive 20 years ago after being kidnapped at knifepoint from her bedroom in Salt Lake City. She joins "CBS Mornings" to reflect on that day and what she's doing to help others. CBS News' Gayle King reports.

I remember the joy I felt when it was announced that she was found alive. I was at work and the entire office ended up in the hallway just rejoicing that she had been found. What a great example she is in not just surviving but thriving.
Same, my elementary school celebrated when it was announced that she was found alive. As kids we were scared we would get kidnapped like her, so her being found alive, really was an amazing feeling for us kids and really for many residents of Utah.

I’m not often moved to pray, but I was moved to pray for her. I was so happy when she was found! She is so wonderful to use her experience to help others!

What an amazing human being. I remember reading her book back in 2012 and it lifted me up so much, because if someone could get through what she did and then go on to help others, and not just feel sorry for herself or just completely self destruct- it's honestly such a miracle. She is a walking miracle.

Living in Salt Lake City, I remember helping on several searches for Elizabeth. We were doing body recovery searches digging up any suspicious hills or rock mounds etc. I cannot express the emotions everyone felt when we heard the Breaking news that Elizabeth had been found alive. Such a powerful young lady using her life to help others.. God bless her ❤❤❤
