  • Here is my next video here on the Organ at All Saints Church "O The Deep Deep Love Of Jesus" to the tune "Ebenezer"
    I can imagine a full welsh chapel singing this hymn with a nice organ - great!
    The ZoomH2 was placed in the Choir Stalls of the Church and using a Boom Microphone Stand High Up too see what sort of sound it makes. And as we;; as using he Panasonic HX-DC1 for the Pedal Camera and Sony HDSR10E for the overhead view.
    Many thanks for watching my videos on youtube please do leave your comments bellow and if you have found my channel for the first time hit the subscribe button to show your support.
    All Saints Also has a website it has lots of info on the Church: www.oystermouthparish.com
    Many Thanks
    Rob

    Rob Charles, you are my favourite organist. I love how you play your music so sincerely and with such feeling. I sing my songs with you in church all the time and I can even play some of them by ear on the organ, but not as well as you can of course. I hope you don't mind. I do so love your music. As a legally blind person, I can't read music so I listen to you with passion in my heart.

    Thanks for sharing. Although I'm an atheist, I'm also Welsh so I do very much enjoy belting out a good hymn! I've never actually heard this in a church, so it was lovely hear it played on the organ. I'm sure the harmony in the version I've got is sightly different though so I'll have to dig that out. You might (or might not!) be interested.

      Once attending a Lutheran service, they used "Thy Strong Word" (which uses the Ebenezer hymn) and I loved this hymn ever since. Almost paradoxically evil and good

    This hymn is very popular in English churches - they try their best, but it takes a Welsh congregation to 'raise the roof!' Very nicely played, Rob. Always good to listen to your playing lots of the well known hymns. Best wishes, Dafydd, Daniel and family, Sutton.

    Every day I hear ONE hymn. I love the english choral music very much.
    The music has a different sound as the choral music in germany. I can't say
    what it is, but I love it. This hymn I never heard before and I think in which way I can
    get the notes of your playing to hear it in one of my next works...
    If possible we could talk directly outside this platform...

  • @TaniaSmith69

    Just wondering, it's so vivid and complete even without voices... would you play it the same for an organ solo and also while the congregation is singing? Or would you make some of the parts a little more subdued to make room for voices?

    @RobCharles1981  11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know this tune, but I know it as "Once To Every Man And Nation." What's in a name? The usual outstanding performance Rob. Would love to hear you play the Austrian Hymn, "Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken" sometime.

    • @reinhartvandernaald8234
      @reinhartvandernaald8234 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This tune is EBENEZER. It is most commonly known with the text "Once to Every Man and Nation," but has been used with several more hymn texts, including "Sing! A New Creation," and "Come Holy Spirit, Dwell Among Us". Recently I heard "O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus," sung at the funeral of a U.S. Navy veteran. When we think about sailors encountering the dangers of the sea every day, that phrase within it is very moving - "Oh, the deep, deep love of Jesus, rolling as a mighty ocean, in its fullness over me."

  • @Bevoin1970
    @Bevoin1970 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It might seem a daft thing to say, but I notice you always wear those black shoes to play the Organ, does it matter to you what you wear? does it affect your playing for instance or could you play just as well wearing trainers for example. Nice playing as always Rob. :-)

    • @Geoplanetjane
      @Geoplanetjane ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot speak for Mr. Charles, but as an organist myself, I can tell you that not just any shoe will do. Typically heeled shoes are used because an organist doesn’t have just two feet to play with, but the heel and toe of each foot. If you watch his feet in these videos, that is how he plays the pedal board of the organ

      +YulianNoldor Agreed. I think it should be played more majestically, and at a slower tempo. Was he playing it in G minor? I've played this tune many a time as a voluntary, or at funerals, but seldom at other church services because so few NZ'ers know the hymn. I've always used E minor, and have never queried what the original key was.

    • @phoenixbells
