    Susan is not only stunningly beautiful… but as nice and down to earth as anyone I have ever met… and did I say beautiful? She is drop dead gorgeous with no make up on…. And gave the best hugs!!!!

    This was a year I just loved Miss South Carolina who was 1st runner up. She was actually the shortest Miss SC ever at 4’11” tall! AND JUDGING WAS FORMER MISS AMERICA FROM SOUTH CAROLINA, Marion McKnight!!

    Love the winner, however, Miss Kentucky should had been one of the four runner-up. I love of talent of dancing and singing.

    So many comments here about Indiana's mistakes in her performance, but no one is mentioning Mississippi's horrible intonation through the ENTIRE song. Am I the only one whose ears are bleeding after that performance?

    3:26 The only double preliminary winner, Suellen Cochran, Miss Ohio. (Talent & Swimsuit) I'm STILL upset she didn't make Top 5! Insult to injury was Gary saying the first syllable of her name when the winner was announced, though Susan Akin is beyond beautiful.

    Arizona and Florida went unplaced but finished 2nd and 3rd RU at miss usa. North Dakota was 4th ru at miss USA in 1983. Wisconsin, Louisiana and Michigan (as miss Indiana USA) also went to miss USA.

    Here’s a question for my fellow MAO fans.... watched Indiana prelim talent to see what the routine was supposed look like. Sadly, during finals her routine fell to pieces. If she had executed a perfect talent routine do you think she places top 5 and where. This is simply a fun hypothetical question so please be respectful.
    My choices: 4th SC, 3rd IN, 2nd WA, 1st TX, Winner MS (I had her picked during parade of states)

    • @pageantsheyday
      @pageantsheyday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, voting on finals night was more geared to getting your favorites to the final ballot. IN had nothing but talent.

    • @aalflyguy1184
      @aalflyguy1184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will agree w/ you from that perspective. EG looked like the cover of a chase lounge in a salon. But with talent weighted so heavily, if IN had not flubbed so terribly does she possibly make the final ballot knocking out AL?

    • @malcolmmarshall5946
      @malcolmmarshall5946 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Poor Miss Indiana. I think she would be definite top 5 contender if she didn't make a couple boo boos in talent. The other girls' talent wasn't all that great. Mississippi was very pretty. South Carolina so cute and bubbly. Texas and Washington also strong contenders.

      @@malcolmmarshall5946 yes she was good with that baton and very acrobatic not just strutting, she was doing windmills along the ground and tumbling, just how you would expect it to look like from a world class twirler if not for the drop in the beginning. but I am fawning for miss kentucky she sang so nice and danced too, its rare you get both like that

    I don't usually agree with the judges pick, but both 1984 (Sharlene Wells) and 1985 (Susan Akin) were the correct choices to be M.A. in my opinion. I felt a little sorry for Miss Indiana with her botched performance. Baton twirling strikes me as a more honest talent, in that any mistake is obvious and potentially catastrophic, whereas a mistake in singing or piano playing can be subtle and go unnoticed and is rarely catastrophic. In Eve. gown competition, the gowns were generally awful. Miss Texas looked like she was wearing a chocolate cake with white icing.

    I'm not saying this because I'm originally from Mississippi, but except for Susan Akin they all look like 40-year old housewives. Susan Akin was not only the clear winner but I think she is the BEST Miss America ever!

      Honestly wasn't wild about any of the top 10 gowns, even Akin's. Miss Kentucky passed about at age 40, her gown may have been meh but her talent was far superior to most of the top 5. Texas always put their women in awful gowns. Dana Rogers, Tamara Next, Jonna, Stephany...awful gowns.

      @@pageantsheyday Oh I did not know Miss Kentucky passed at just 40. Leanza Cornet who was a Miss America in the 90s passed in 2021 at age 49 years from a fall from a ladder I believe. But it was a fall. Chelsi Smith a former Miss USA who won Miss Universe passed young and then of course Chelsie Kryst Miss USA 2019 who committed suicide not even 2 years after winning. After jumping from her balcony some 20 floors above the street. Clearly some huge issues when someone is doing that. @@pageantsheyday Wow you really are on top of your Pageant knowledge and facts. All these state representatives passing on !?? The ladies in the mid 80s pageants would be around my current age now . I am 57 year old . So give or take a year or two . This means these ladies all passed fairly young . Like I said to you in my previous message Chelsi Smith who was crowned Miss USA 1995 and won Miss Universe that year is passed away already!! There are a couple of Miss America’s who passed within a year or two of each other Phyllis George Miss America 1971 in 2020 of a rare blood disease. And Pamela Eldred Miss America 1970 passed also . Really shocked by Phyllis George and Leanza Cornet’s passing . Phyllis George was Soo talented and beautiful. Soo sad😔🥲✝️💐💔
