Regarding subtitles: What's your opinion of subtitles in the target language? My professor advised watching English movies/series with English subtitles if we have a hard time understanding the actors.
Oooo that's an interesting proposal. I would say listen without them first, because listening to the language and hearing the words accurately takes practice. Then if you are really struggling to understand, go through with subtitles, but then go back again after and listen one more time without subtitles. :)
@@EnglishLikeANative Anna, how to do it? I've got sure you've not interest to prejudice us but it's really impossible stop to translate it! Let me tell you the truth! English Teaching it's a biggest business in this moment darling, can I say you something? Try it speak other language without translate it for your language I challenge you to do it !
How to think in English if we were born in several different places, thinking and speaking in several others types of the languages, can you please tell me how is it possible?
you're really learning German? I live in Germany. The German language is being a mess because of the socalled "geschlechtergerechte Sprache" (i call it "genderspeak" cause I hate those political modifications on the language so much). Well, if you have any questions on German, I would be honoured to help you.
1. 0:45 Name things around you (at home, at work, in the street, everywhere you can see or think about) in English. 2. 1:40 Keep the conversation going (just talk to people as often and much as possible). 3. 4:09 Force yourself to use the target language (don't let yourself stop speaking English and drop out to your native language). Imagine that you are talking to someone who knows only English. Speak to yourself, make a diary (voice memos on your phone and then listen to them and check for mistakes), read articles on the Internet out loud, tell yourself what you are doing at the moment like "I am going to the kitchen to make some tea because I want one and I won't have any time for it later". 4. 6:40 Practice pronouncing, sentence structure. You must work on it so your mind will not spend much time doing this in the future, but just taking it from your memory. 5. 7:46 Use learner's dictionary which contains associations between English words and their meaning. Cambridge one is in the description. 6. 8:36 Watch movies, read books out loud, do English every single day. 7. 9:01 Watch without subtitles, because watching movies with subtitles will never help you in real talk because you are missing the context happening around the actors during their speeches, you miss the body language, you don't see what is happening there and what they could possibly say and why. 8. 10:04 Practice common questions and responses, like "hi, how are you?", "hi, what's your name?", "what's up, colleague?", etc.

I`ve listen to BBC radio 4 or news every day for about 20 min, and watch any video of things that I want to learn in english. I did it for about 18 months and my listening improved tremendously. I`ve watched many of your videos. Thank you Anna for you generosity.
Thanks for your lesson it is very interesting and important for me because I need to practice my english language and is very difficult because I don't have a some person for to talk and to practice my speak english but Iam going to talk with myself.it is your slice advice...thanks for that. I have learning english since october 2020 in you tube and I need much more vocabulary because this is very poor but I want to study very hard every day. My dream is to speak english fluently and fast. I hope to have my goal and to find a person with who I can to practice my english language. Ok thanks for all the things and , GOOD LUCK.SO LONG. GOD BLEES YOU.
Wow! What an eternal connection between teachers and students are! Before I saw the notification of this video, I had thought “The most important things of learning English are thinking in English, stop translating in our head and always staying with companion of English language”. Wow! Then I was so astonished to see your video! Actually teachers and students are always thinking about same subject. So, this can be happened naturally. Thanks for your details explanation. Your advice is scientific and natural.
Hey Anna, Thanks for this video! I've studied English on Italky, it's absolutely a serious company, they offer an excellent service and it helped me a lot with my English! I found there very good teachers and also native friends. But I also would like to share with you my experience with Lingoda. I'm attending the second month of the Marathon and my personal opinion about the Marathon is the following: 1) Group classes where it's impossible to seriously practice the speaking; 2) Classes that are supposed to be upper-intermediate, are in reality beginner level and classes that are supposed to be advanced, are actually intermediate; 3) 9 out of 10 students who join the lessons, speak an incomprehensible English for a lack of vocabulary, correct pronunciation and speaking confidence. Also some of them don't want to use the camera...awful; 4) Some teachers are native English speaker, but others are non native with a pronunciation that leaves something to be desired; 5) The teachers don't take note of any student's mistakes, they merely let them reading some words and phrases, asking them some questions, but without correcting them, except from some rare cases; 6) there's no way to rescind the contract with Lingoda. I could add to this list the fact that it's literally inhumane to follow each and every class in order to get the as famous as ridiculous refund, but I don't mention it as this was not the reason for wich I deliberately joined the Marathon, because I've always knew, even before to read the contract, that the story of the refund is just a marketing strategy to let the fishes take the bite! I've joined the Marathon because I thought that speaking English every single day would have massively improved my English skills, which was something I've been longing for so long. The bitter truth is that Lingoda can't help me to improve my English and can't help the teachers I've studied with until now, to seriously teach. Even if the teachers wonted to let the student speak, even if they wanted to take notes of the student's mistakes, even if they wanted to suggest anything, they couldn't. They couldn't because the teachers are ought to follow the slides that Lingoda provides them, because some students (not all obviously) are not serious and instead of following beginning classes they follow advanced classes. Thanks for reading
