Ruger/Marlin 1895 SUCKS! (because of this…)

  • This is the worst thing about the new Ruger Marlin 1895 series of rifles. The rifle itself is great, but the lack of ammo availability makes it less great to deal with.

Reloading them is easy. Also the worst this is actually the little screw that retains the loading gate.... It breaks off on the 45-70 from time to time and jams the gun to the point that it is impossible to use. Had to take mine to a gunsmith 3 times to fix. Screw is to small to hold up to the recoil of the 45-70 I think. I sold it and bought a single shot break action 45-70.

it's not just the 45-70 out there that's hard to find. I shoot 338 Winchester Magnum and their heart as hell to find I have been looking for over a year and have not found anything yet luckily I stacked back a few boxes for just this occasion.

the local gun shop near me has that type coming out their ass. The reason they have a lot of it in stock is ruger's former CEO loves to shop there and he has a lot of pull when it comes to the ammo manufacturers.

Factory ammo for 45-70 is usually loaded light anyway. If you going to have 45-70 probably good to plan on doing hand loads.

So yes the 45-70 cartridge was hard to find for a while, but I have to disagree for the most part with this. Every (local) gun shop or store near me has had federal 45-70 boxes in stock for seemingly the past four years at least…. There are a few other options usually in this round at the store but, federal is never lacking. While traveling and going to different stores they have had it as well. So I’m not sure how to say it but I don’t think I would ever have a problem finding ammo for my 45-70…..

I prefer to collect the oddball calibers, it's just one of the preferences. I'll pay the extra for ammo and search until I can aquire all the reloading components. Then it gets fun. Thats a sweet looking lever

true.....or ANY lever gun cartridge for that matter. 30-30 is nearly impossible to find and even brass to reload it is frustratingly hard to come by. the only lever gun that you can usually find ammo for is in 45-70....but its gotten too expensive to have a range day with it unless you're reloading the brass
