Awesome interview. Thanks to both of you. Have been quietly having a little cry on the inside since finding out about Mr D's passing. His amps and his mystique certainly captured my imagination and inspired me. When Satriani heard about Hendrix's death he quit the football team and (presumably) immersed himself in guitar. Pretty confident I won't go buy a Dumble right now but....
Rest in Love Sir and thank you. Nice to know when I'm tinkering with my tone I can now ask for your inspiration from the great gig in the sky

The last cut, Dumble sounded like the lead guitar player from Country Joe and the Fish. Why didn’t he make a contract with Fender to mass produce his amplifiers? Then, so many more of us could be enjoying his amplifiers. Or, take one to a Japanese company now, have them dissect it, then reproduce it on a mass scale.

Years ago,i met mr.Howard Alexander Dumble on FB,in a reaction to a post of CWS Amps(the Netherlands).
In this reaction,he freaked out on Chris Winsemius, because to his vieuw,Chris used his design and he was so angry,he could kill him for that.
I gave him a reaction and also a friendship request(which he granted).
I never played a Dumble Amp,just saw one once,at the Veenendaal Vintage Show, offered for €80.000.
I'm more a user and collector of Rivera Amps and wenn i want a Dumble clone,i call my friend Peter van Weelden to build me a Twinckleland amp.

      Correct two of them....
gutted reissues with 50 watt celestians
Drafted boards Dumble was a draftsman and engineer his father was an engineer.
He held the patent for the automatic transmission for automobiles.
Ramon you know what I did for 3 years building amps in production line ?
I made the ilet boards by hand. I built two more of them seeking - bias now
and troubleshooting power issues..Ive owned the amp for 10 years and its charted and for sale.
BTW Henry is speaking about 0057 it belonged to a friend of mine on west coast
      who sold it to Carlos.
My 100 odsr was built using #60 reverb
#183 ods and #60 Odsr reverb
      Dumble made 4 odsrs.0057 -0060
      very rare
the owner of 60 thought I had the amp which was being made for him
only id bought it a year before and paid in advance.
      I still own them ...

  • @richardweinberger2756

    Dumble sounds great.
Not sure if Henry's effects sound so good. Maybe the video sound couldn't pick it up right.
There are electronics repair people in every area, some no doubt better than others, but Dumble elevated his creations by listening to a player and choosing his components and circuitry to make that player sound the best possible. Here in these few little riffs you can hear you good Dumble sounds compared to the horrid fingernails on blackboard sound of Henry.( Was he auditioning for the Captain Beefheart Band perhaps?) Dumble's little pieces here are easily good enough to have been on a record by Creedence Clearwater, The Rolling Stones, etc. and those are just off the cuff.

  • @ronfrey5327
    @ronfrey5327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Eh. Henry owned Dumbles entire line of amps early on.
I knew about Lindleys amp being the 1 and Dumble made
his first amp from a bassman.
The Ultra was what Lindley used to begin with then he go the ODS AND SSS #3
Henrys blue SSS #2 is 100 watts Lindleys #003 SSS 100 watts
    #004 pentode 100 watt SSS
Eric Johnsons #005 SSS 150 watts BIG BALLS IN COWTOWN
Srv #006-#007 silver and blackface consecutive serial numbers like his Vibroverbs
every SSS from 005 on was 150 watts.
The iron was different in SSS then ODS
NONE OF THE CLONE BUILDERS ARE ANYWHERE CLOSE ON THE SSS
THEY ALL COPIED THE 1ST THIEF WHO COPIED A VANILLA CIRCUIT
WHICH SOUNDED NOTHING LIKE #005 TO BEGIN WITH.
I leased Erics former Practice room for 3 years on one side Eric had the bigger room
and the other side was Srvs room I heard those amps and saw them in person along with the other ods and manzamp and others including Dumbleland and Chris Cross amps between Rays which they all shopped at and the practice room which was no accident.
In 89-91 we had built a 150 watt amp and Eric was only there to meet me to take him to see a goldtop 58
which he bought.. But I ambushed him at work and had that 150 setup with the same pedals and a 58 strat
and I asked him what he thought he said close but no cigar.
That statement set me off on 30plus year quest to find it.
In 1996 Erics #005 caught fire and was never the same .
But Sherman and Peabody took me in the way way back machine
and I snatched it back .
The answer was in the bassman I bought 10 years ago
    and nothing worthwhile is easy.
When I spoke to Dumble about my amp and offered to send 6 grand overnight inside a showman
he said he was already booked. could only build for front line players and could not help me.
So I charted the amp and drafted it from my work 89-91 and I got online to study for 10 years
and within that 10 I found the original notes on Srvs amp which was serviced overseas
the person who overnighted the rare parts taught me that anyone can paint by numbers
but what seperates the men from the boys is tuning them.
son of a bitch the answer was right in my face
    my amp was already tuned.
Alex installed parts which were 17 years old in 1996-97
to throw everybody off. Drafting using physics and acoustic properties of sound
he made his own boards to fit and those circles or ilets were all in machinists measurements.
There were parts in the SSS which have been obsolete since 2010 for certain
5% value difference nobody would hear and its not a tone crucial part
    so who cares.
I think I blew one amp up. and I blew a 150 watt amp up but ill fix them
Ramon you know what that ultra sounds like master slave through the 150 with SSS IRON ?
    :)
CAN Y0U SAY FLAGSHIP TWO CHANNEL DUMBLE ?
I KNEW YOU COULD THINK ODSR WITH SSS IRON AND GLASS THROUGH D CAB 4X12 WITH EVS.
AND YOU THOUGHT I WAS FUCKING OFF...
THE ULTRA SOUNDS BEST WITH 65S
BUT THE SSS IS BEST THROUGH EVS 8 OHMS OF COURSE
AND WITH THE TOP BACK OFF.
THATS THE SHIT THAT KILLED ELVIS RIGHT THERE SON.
