I hated how they retconed the backstory of the characters. This movie feels more like a soft reboot rather than anything and made for that weird new Spongebob show.
@@ryancookney5277 There's a bit of continuity that Spongebob has. Like character backstories and such. So there's a bit of continuity, but it's soft Continuity. It pains me to see that they just.. retconned that. Like retconning the fact that Sandy met Spongebob in season one, and they never actually knew one another until then. Or how Squidward himself only met spongebob right after spongebob moved into the neighborhood, which is referenced multiple times in the series. Same with Mr. Krabs never knowing Spongebob until he shows up, with Squidward having to try and tell Mr. Krabs not to hire him.
Or how about that Spongebob "INSPIRED" Mr. Krabs to make the Krusty Krab when anyone who has seen the episode "Friend or Foe" knows it was from a failed deal between Krabs and Plankton is where he made the formula for the Krabby Patty and he decided to turn his idea into a restaurant made from a old retirement home in the episode "Krusty Krab Training Video" If there is anything else comment about it
And how spongebob met squid ward when he was looking for a house and a pineapple fell from the sky and landed next to squidwards house ... so he bought the pineapple house ... and that's when squidwards hell began
Is everyone else just glossing over the fact that Krabs just gives Plankton the formula? Then Plankton gives up on his evil plan to turn good for no reason.
welp we can call that a mission accomplished other then that planktons only reason to be evil was to take the crabby patty secret formula so what other option he got.
Plankton actually has a napoleon complex. The only time I would actually call him evil was in the first movie were he committed mass slavery, fraud and attempted murder
@dragon1193 linktoad Im still confused on how Plankton didn't just write down the formula somewhere else..like in the first movie, he became a dictator then all of a sudden every other time he forgets the formula, like he finally had the recipe..why didn't he write it down on another platform or get Karen to memorize it in her databanks.....
Spongebob, Patrick, and I believe Squidward already met in the first episode _Help Wanted_ (Patrick's first lines were "Gooo Spongebob!"). During _Help Wanted_ he meets Mr. Krabs and saves his skin during a big lunch rush, landing Spongebob his job at the Krusty Krab almost instantly after that day. He then meets Sandy in "Tea at the Teadome" when she already moved into the sea when they were both adults. Spongebob (and Patrick) then learn about air and how they can't survive in it. To close this off, Spongebob finally meets Plankton in _Plankton!_ where Spongebob almost gave him the secret formula out of his control since this was first in a long battle.
If you watch spongebob You know that Spongebob and Sandy got married. They couldn’t live together because Sandy needs air and Spongebob needs water. They would visit each other. Later Sandy would have a son.
@@DeevDaRabbit He's definitely much older, even non canon episodes showed him as an adult while spongebob was a child. But even if he was, 2-3 years is very noticable in young children. They're definitely the same age in the spinoff
I love you i been subbed to your channel since 2012 huge fan i have no idea if you still upload shadow videos but i always see your old videos now and again and still laugh 😊
6:04 - wtf? Sandy didn't live under the sea as a kid... She literally sets up her dome underwater during the show's 1st season, and that's when she meets Spongebob and Co. What is she doing fartin around in this flashback?!
Why can’t Spongebob just die in peace knowing that it was a great show and will always remember it, but instead they used him as some sleazy business strategy.
Tom Kenny's death will be a disaster for Nickelodeon. No one can replicate Spongebob's voice and people will definitely hear the difference and some will leave.
yah. even if the spinoff is good. ill still hate it. they are still pissing on an artists grave. and if i were an animator at nickelodeon, i would simply walk out, leaving a picture of hilenburgs grave on my desk.
@@supersmashbro596 why would you hate the spinoff? I feel like People are being very unfair towards the spinoff but the real person you should be mad at is Nickelodeon not the spinoff. cause people are working very hard on the spinoff so it's not fair to say it's bad without even giving it a chance and btw some people don't want to be out of a job so not everybody would do that and it wouldn't be hurting Nickelodeon feeling they will just find somebody else to do it.
Honestly, this movie feels like it's trying to reboot Spongebob as a whole by forcing Hillenburg out of the picture, which is what I was fully expecting out of this dumpster fire.
Given that the film's previous title was "It's a Wonderful Sponge", I think that a better premise for this film would be It's a Wonderful Life, but with Spongebob. It would pretty much be a fan-service movie, filled with callbacks to fan favorite episodes, including the first movie, along with cameos up the ass. It also would have been perfectly fitting for Spongebob's 20th Anniversary, as well as being a nice tribute to both the fans and Hillenburg.
At least we have the musical, which is really good and feels like a huge celebration of Hillenburg and Spongebob (I believe it was Hillenburg approved).
@@FunnyMonkey781 honestly if this show is still around and they make another film with this animation, the movie adaptation of the musical would be pretty cool
This movie will be hated for the Camp Coral segments alone. It goes against the one damn thing Steven Hillenburg said not to do with Spongebob, proving that Nickelodeon do not really care about their shows
Actully one of the guys from ren and stimpy offered him money for a rated r spongebob show where apperntly spongebob and patrick were gay But he declined the offer but who knows if camp coral ruins spongebob enough maybe the cancled spongebob show will get the same treatment as the rated r ren and stimpy show and spit on stevens grave even more
One thing I liked about it was that it had a remake of "Gary Come Home" play in the end credits I would of appreciate the original play but at least they didn't turn it into some cheesy pop or hip hop that would only please younger people with like 27 popular music icons. But it was actually a nice remake of the song
The thing that got me loving this movie is Patrick goes back to his season 1 ways. He and spongebob aren't incredibly stupid 24/7. Its funny now and then but all the time just makes things cringeworthy and hard to keep watching. In fact, in the pilot episode when Patrick made his debut, his first lines are words of encouragement and helpfulness to get spongebob the fry cook job. This is the Patrick i want more of. He's a layered character and he's unpredictable. He can be quite smart for his own good, he could be encouraging, he could be witty or dumb. In the newer seasons, the just kept the dumb trait with Patrick and I'm just shaking my head. I know the movie itself is a recycled plot of "Gary is missing! Go find him!" But the movie makes so many callbacks to earlier seasons. The ones that were before Spongebob became (dare I say it,) cringe. Its a breath of fresh air. Is the movie at all epic like its predecessors? It doesn't have that much epicness as the predecessors. Spongebob 1: Plankton kicks into high gear, takes over and enslaves Bikini Bottom while Mr Krabs is Frozen and framed by King Neptune Sponge Out Of Water: Spongebob and Plankton are framed for stealing the formula, leaping the town into an apocalyptic state and the main cast become superheroes to save their world. Sponge On The Run: Gary is stolen by King Poseidon and Spongebob and Patrick hunt him down. They're set on death row with only the other 4 main characters to rescue them. The messages in SOTR are corny like Friendship is Magic but both of them work because of how they're presented. Its a very good story when you get right down to it. I think Steve Hillenburg is proud of this movie. Too bad he's gonna turn in his grave once Kamp Koral airs. He said for his final wish: Spongebob does NOT get a spinoff ever!
@DyingWaffles 15 the first movie is canonically the end of Spongebob. That's why you don't see the Krusty Krab 2 anywhere in the show, nor in the 2nd or 3rd movie
Writers should have referenced the old episodes when SpongeBob helped someone ( Help Wanted, Band Geeks, Texas, The Fry Cook Games and etc.), instead of ruining the canon with Kamp Koral.
Sorry, but Nick is too lazy to make new animated shows, so they have to bastardize the lore of original SpongeBob to make more spin offs to fill up their run time charts.
1st Movie: Spongebob and Patrick are the main focused characters, with Plankton being the main antagonist, while the others didn't really do much. 2nd Movie: The other characters got to do a lot more than the 1st Movie, but the focus was more on the relationship dynamic between Spongebob and Plankton. 3rd Movie: Back to Spongebob and Patrick for the majority of the ride, and the other main characters got more screen time in the second half of the movie, which was a 91 Minute long commercial for a tie-in spin-off series, and Keanu Reeves.
Really, criticizing spongebob for the plot? The original didn’t have much of a plot (it mostly was “get here to win”) and it didn’t need too to be a masterpiece. Some movies don’t need much of a plot
The fact that movies like this, SCOOB, and most of Disney’s movies this year were low quality and made tons of money due to “Recognizable Brand + Digital Release” makes me concerned that quality standards for movies are about to drop
It's even more sad knowing that the movie Scoob! was released on May 15, 2020, the same year that the co-creator of Scooby-Doo, Joe Ruby, passed away on August 26, 2020.
@Crazy Dave Technically, there is A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!, but it's live-action and released as a TV movie instead of a theatrical release.
Haven’t seen Fred the movie but Sponge on the run was one of the most disappointing movies of all time. Story was a mess, and most importantly, it wasn’t funny at all. I guess days of spongebob being enjoyed by kids and adults are gone. Now it’s all for kids.
@@zousui7238 Everyone: Why does Spongebob have to be for only kids now IGN: Spongebob battle for bikini bottom is too easy Everyone: It's a kids game IGN stop being stupid (This is not a complaint directly at you but that's just something Spongebob fans do sometimes which annoys me)
Bruh, I’m disappointed about this, cause this movie genuinely looks pretty interesting. Especially the animation, look at it! This just feels like a major let down
I liked it more than most people, but it was definitely missing something. The writers needed a clearer goal from the start, like how the first movie was essentially one big character study for SpongeBob, while the second was them seeing how many jokes and surreal detours they could get out of a simple premise (SB and Plankton learning to be friends). If this film really focused on the idea that SpongeBob is an integral part of the town and his friend's lives, it would've been a much stronger foundation to build a story off of. But they sort of went halfway with it. Same with the attempts at surrealism, which weren't as full-blown creative as usual. It's hard for me to dislike the film, tho. The animation is gorgeous and I do believe the crew were really trying to make something Steve Hillenburg would've been proud of. They didn't quite crack it, but the heart is there. I would certainly never compare it to Scoob!, which was just seven shades of shit.
As a Canadian I was able to watch this back in August. I enjoyed it, the animation was good, I liked the comedy I think it was overall a fun movie and worth the watch, but that's just my opinion. How ever I would have preferred all the flashbacks be flash backs to actual episodes . I understand why because this is supposed to tie into the new series, but this is probably the last thing Stephen Hillenburg worked on and it would be an amazing send off if they reanimated old scenes instead of just giving us camp coral scenes. Honestly that would have saved it for me. I still liked the movie, but I would have loved it even more if they more it more of a tribute to Stephen. But who knows, maybe he approved of the original script
@@andykishore However, at that point he was not only credited as one of the writers, it was also Hand-drawn and called It's a Wonderful Sponge. ALSO, Hillenburg hated the idea of Spin-offs, and there's confirmation from members of the show's staff that eihier left after the first film or his death to that. However, hand-drawn animation, especially for a feature film's, way more expensive and time-consuming than CGI, besides, hand-drawn animation's not seen as a box-office draw anymore. Long story short, they're grave-pissing and going against his wishes in order to profit off a cheaper film and a spinoff series.
What annoyed me the most was that literally NOTHING mattered in this movie. (minor spoilers ahead) The zombie pirate thing didn't matter. it contributed nothing to the story, they just crunched celebrities in. The super special coin didn't matter The patty wagon didn't do anything (it was just a little tool of fan service from the first movie and it got about 15 sec of screen time) The robot didn't matter. It was there to bring them to atlantic city but why did they need it if he could just drive the patty wagon or ask someone else to drive or take a damn bus because it didn't really seem hard to get there. Keanu didn't really help them at all. Just stole them time with his pirate shit. Plankton started the whole thing to get the formula and when he got it he... didn't want it. Not even this classic Spongebob plot line mattered. Poseidon was double backing in the end like "oh you're fun guys everything is forgotten. Lol jk, give me the snail. lol I'm kidding again you can go" And yeah camp coral.... we all know what's wrong with camp coral My room mate was sitting next to me and started predicting whats going to happen in the next 20 min, based on movie clichés and well... he basically knew the plot and how whole scenes will turn out before we even saw. This is how stale and unoriginal this whole thing is. Well... the animation was nice
The animation is soooo good! I love when people do cool things with 3D animation, like Spiderverse and Hotel Translyvania. It's a shame the story can't back up the visuals :(
Honestly I, too, really like how they did the visuals here... Even hoped that it may get a good story to hold it up too, but naw, couldn't expect that much. But yeah, blending 3D with 2D movements is a pretty good style, but it can't be the only good thing about a movie.
It was so half assed all they thought was “let’s put some bubbles at the start of every scene”yeah because that makes it look like there under water 🤦🏽♀️
@@wicho2401 at times, its better to write stuff with a team, specially if youre young, since they can help you focusing and having different points of view. The simpsons had a very good episode about that called the book job. I think a comedy like this couldve benefited from a team, but who knows.
@@TheyWantMeGone69 How didn't you get it? You can die a hero being a legend (in the case of SpongeBob, being good and focusing on pleasing both adult and child public by being funny in the exact amount), or live enough to become a villain (as of Nickelodeon transforming the SpongeBob series into a badly produced mainstream piece of shit). It's simple.
@@Mel9188 Yeah I see what your saying but, and maybe I'm taking it too literally. But it just seems like the wrong context. A person can't just become a villain out of nowhere. Yeah I think I'm taking that phrase too literally.
Yeah this movie is god awful. The stuff that's supposed to be "emotional" is some of the most forced ever. We're supposed to believe SpongeBob cares deeply for Gary because they met at camp or whatever, but he continuously gets distracted from saving Gary over gambling, ect. Squidward, Plankton and Krabs are severely out of character. A disrespect to the show and characters. The show has heartwarming moments, and pulls them off super well (Ex: Squidward standing up for SpongeBob in Pizza Delivery). But the way this movie tries to have such a tearjerker ending with Squidward all like "I don't want SpongeBob to die, please ;(((" with the only buildup being and super random flashbacks to summer camp which is really weird and forced lore, just wtf. As the flashbacks were happening they felt nothing like the characters from the show at all, and honestly I kind of forgot it was even supposed to be them. Luckily this won't see a theatrical release in America lol
I enjoyed the movie, but the whole thing seems to contradict the entire series while recycling it at the same time, it just feels like the writers were out of ideas and the Zombie Pirates seen and Keanu Reeves just seemed out of place, don't get me wrong I love Keanu, but he just seems out of place. Overall in my opinion, not horrible but not exactly amazing either.
That’s true. If you look at the spongebob wiki article on the movie, you’ll discover this movie had many different plots that were very different from one another. I feel like they just couldn’t decide on one plot and just kinda mashed them together
1:24 Fun Fact: Neptune and Poseidon are actually the same god. Neptune was how latins used to call him and Poseidon is how the name was interpreted in greek's culture. That's why in the movie he makes reference to other Olympian Gods
Tbh, I only dropped a tear when Squidward talked about how Spongebob doesn’t deserve to die, it’s really rare to see an scene where Squidward really cares about Spongebob.
They didn't forget. More like they retconned it so they could put Sandy in the Kamp Koral spinoff. All those flashback scenes were pretty blatant plugs for it.
The original Spongebob movie was (and still is, imo) a lot of fun, and I still feel like it's where the series honestly should have ended since it honestly kind of just went downhill from there. The second one was...fine? I mean, wasn't great, but got a few laughs out of me and thought it was entertaining enough. This one though...just...why? Why does this exist? Er...okay we know why it exists. To set up a spin-off no one wanted nor asked for, but still, *why?*
I think that this movie looks very ehh, I mean the animation is really good even though it gets a little getting used to, But the plot feels so tired and reused even though there are some creative elements like the western zombie scene even though it went on a little too long and the Snoop Dogg scene was pointless, and is at least a better story than that god awful cat idea. But I feel like the Spongebob movie franchise is slowly getting worse with each film, the first film was a great adventure comedy albeit with some missed opportunities, the second movie while funny doesn’t have the same magic as the first movie kinda like Ghostbusters 2, now that this film is getting not very good reactions and the fact that ViacomCBS is not releasing the movie in the US until next year says kinda a lot. How I think they should do a fourth movie (which is probably going to happen) they should either make it an animated adaptation of the Broadway stage musical similar to You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, or just make that Spongebob Beyond fan series by 12th Art Group as a movie.
i bet these 2k dislikes I’m seeing currently now haven’t actually watched the movie and instead just judged you because they like the animation and graphics in the movie and don’t care about the actual boring story
So Sponge on the Run is basically "Episode Rehash the Movie", with a not so subtle Backdoor Spin-off as part of the plot. Glad to know I wasn't missing anything since it wasn't released in theaters.
Didn't spongebob not know who sandy was until her appearance in season 1 while she was fighting a clam? So in this camp does spongebob just forgot who she was? How'd you forget someone you spent a (soon to be) series on? He literally calls her in her first episode "Land Mammal".
Sponge on the Run has the "non canon" aesthetic, where many scenes in the movie didn't appear in the show itself, which is considered to be the main canon. Think of Dragon Ball movies. In Fusion Reborn, Goku and Vegeta made Gogeta to fight Janemba, but Janemba isn't a canon character, and Gogeta came out in a later canon attempt which succeeded. It's kinda the same with this. Canon and Non Canon iterations are normally compared on a canon or uncanon universe. With Sponge on the Run, it's a non canon universe that has A LOT of elements from the Canon Universe, which is basically the real universe. So Sandy and Spongebob did meet in the field, but in this movie, the non canon iteration of Sandy and Spongebob meeting in the camp was basically a type of plot development.
@@eagc7 Kinda? Before Sandy was introduced she wasn't in any episode; spongebob always failed his boating lessons, plankton always wanted the krabby patty formulae, etc.. If you mean being character tropes then the first spongebob movie takes place at the end, although this is confirmed in the series, as mindy appears in some episodes; like to remember all the sea creature's names. That and Sandy breathing air and being a master of karate has always been a thing; although 1 episode actually had her without her suit, underwater by accident; but that was retconned as fast as it appeared.
@@WakoDoodle Yes there are somethings that remain 100% set in stone on SpongeBob like character traits as you mentioned. (By the way in the Sandy part lets not forget that she debuted in the third sagment, so she was only missing in 2 at that point, not that much) But what i mean is when they ignored some stuff that previously established when the plot needs it to be ignored, he's one example the origins of the Krabby Patty Formula in one episode Krabs states that the formula is an old family recipie, but friends or foe shows that the formula was created during his fight with Plankton. Other example in the ep Spongebob Vs. the Big One, SpongeBob states he has no idea how to surf, even though he already surfed before then. They had an entire episode where Glove World is closed and a park was opened to replace it but later episodes has Glove World back In Just One Bite Squidward says he never ate a Krabby Patty, even though he ate of a bunch of Krabby pattiess in the episode where SpongeBob shoes are untied In Friends or Foes a teenage Krabs cames across a dime for the first time in his life, but we see that he had a dime when he was a kid during the kursty krabs training video In the ep where he fires Squidward stealing his dime, its implied that Krabs been in the bussiness since prehistory since his first dime is a prehistoric rock, but later eps show that was not the case In Neptune Spatula, Neptune says he's the rule of Atlantis, but when see Atlantis in a later episode wheree David Bowie's character is the rule That is what i meant when i said there is really no continuity and i could list others.
Can we all just imagine what the movie would have been like if SpongeBob's friends had mentioned all the times that SpongeBob helped them in the series, and how did they really and canonically knew him instead of the whole Kamp Koral ad? Now, THAT would have made me cry tears of joy. But no :( The writers just couldn't stay true to the canon, could they? PD: I actually thought I was the only one who thought Spongebob getting mad constantly was out of character. I’m honestly glad I’m not! I mean, the charm of his character is that there are just very little moments in which he gets angry, but all of them make sense and are very good reasons, cause he is not like that.
@@MadWatcher what? No! Literally everyone on reddit is hyping him up like a god and the best think to exist. I just realized something: 0:39 Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, passed away on November 26, 2018, while The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run was still in production. 10:10 Joe Ruby, the co-creator of Scooby-Doo, passed away on August 26, 2020, 3 months after the Scoob! movie was released on May 15, 2020.
@@theg-topia9626 The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run has a dedication of memory to Stephen Hillenburg which appears at the very end of the movie right after the final scene.
The one thing i don't hear anybody talking about is how the 3D animation sacrifices one major running gag in spongebob: Detailed zoomed in paintings. Not once did this movie use a visual like Squidwards 'does this look uncertain' face, or prehistoric patrick smiling at squidward with gross teeth, or something like that, you know the gag. the 3D animation takes that staple from spongebob. that was my biggest problem with the movie. is it petty? yeah, yeah it is. do i care? nope.
As much as i hated that they erased the canon that ending part made me tear up when they were all talking about spongebob that zombie cowboy part almost made have to stop the movie though...i did not like that at all
I actually really liked this movie except that part. If they just cut that out and met the sage somewhere else it would have been one of the year's best animated films.
Yea the film isn’t that great but can we take a second to appreciate how damn adorable young squidward is? I just wanna make him his favourite sandwiches and packing them in his lunchbox before school to make him happy
Don't, That's what nickelodeon wants! They're trying to manipulate you into finding the young characters cute so Camp Coral will be more successful. Don't let them win!

You expressed my thoughts exactly. It shamelessly steps all over the lore, it lacks an epic scope, it's slow, it tries to be both the first and second movie and fails at being either, and its main purpose is clearly to promote Camp Coral. I'm hesitant to call it awful, but it isn't good - not by any stretch of the imagination.
*Spoilers* The film ends with an underwhelming dance number about how the secret formula is "you". Way to bury 21 years of continuity and great episodes just to sell albums.
@@Grapey123 there's more after since the movie is still about getting Gary back home. Basically ends with all the captured Snails living in Bikini Bottoms.

I actually liked this film, I liked this more than the spongebob 3D I think they were trying to tell us that we know the first film (which Stephen Hillenburg directed it) exist, and they didn't want to ruin his legacy? Even though they made a huge..mistake with the camp coral, still, I think they managed to show us WHY we adored these characters so much I really appreciated this film because it showed how Spongebob is not just 'annoying character' but has a pure heart, and how Patrick is not just 'dumb seastar', and Mr.Krabs is not just 'money hungry Krab' but also has a heart for caring Spongebob I also think that..'secret formula' has done in a brilliant way Trying not to break Stephen's rule, while telling us what this whole film was about I can't say it's the best film, I still like the first film the most, but I don't think this is a bad film I think we have to realize that..after Stephen has passed away, nothing can feel like Stephen Hillenburg's work There will be some cringey scenes, and some plot holes, but in this film, I think the creators were really trying not to ruin Stephen's work Being respectful, but ALSO targeting more young audiences for the new step up It sucks to see..that they included that Camp Coral scene just for the spin-off, but I think they were REALLY trying hard to keep the original fans too, which I appreciate it Also this film plot..felt like..the parallel universe of the first film. How they used the burger cart? to go find Spongebob, and there's a king Neptune, meeting the zombie pirate cowboys.. (which felt like when Spongebob and Patrick were trying to get the key in the first film), and the speech in front of the many people for the emotional scene (just like when Spongebob step up and say it's okay to be a kid), the prison scene felt like when Spongebob and Patrick thought they failed at finding Neptune's crown even though...it could feel like a completely different, not related scene at all, but I think they were TRYING, also that Sage felt like Mindy trying to give courage to Spongebob, also Spongebob passes out at the Kazino feels like when Spongebob ate too much ice cream and passes out. So..I think creators really tried hard to..keep that..Stephen's work with the first film but adds some new touch into it. We can't pray for the exact same work Stephen made
Spongebob never met any of the characters in Bikini Bottom, it's shown in the pilot episode that Spongebob just moved to Bikini Bottom and as he progresses through the town he meets all of his new friends. They didn't meet at a gosh darn summer camp. This is awful, I hate this so much why are kids movies so bad now.
What I hate most about this movie is how Stephen Hillenburg had a rule against spin offs for spongebob and as soon as he died Nickelodeon was just like “ Hey kids! we are making a new spongebob spinoff and we are even making a whole movie as a pilot for it!”
I recently watched the movie and I’m VERY mixed on it. On one hand the beginning and end were pretty funny and very enjoyable. Also the part at the casino was pretty cool. On the other hand the desert section just made no sense. The animation was very good in some sections. However the new characters like Sage and El Diablo were just random and didn’t need to be there. On one hand seeing the whole cast together in a movie is awesome. But on the other hand it felt like a copy of many other episodes like Have You Seen This Snail, and Atlantis Squarepantis. On one hand seeing Spongebob’s backstory is great as he is a character we never really see much backstory for. But at the same time a lot of moments just made this not feel like Spongebob and Snoop Dog being there just made no sense. On one hand there was a lot of action going on with the 2 plots interconnecting. But on the other hand a lot moments were just very predictable. On one hand a lot of jokes were pretty great, but on the other many of them didn’t land at all. Overall, I would probably give this movie a 5/10. It’s VERY meh and honestly just isn’t that great. The second movie is better with a 6.5/10. At least that movie had its own ideas and funny jokes. And the first is obviously the best one at a 9/10 IMO. That one was just like watching a classic Spongebob episode or something.
I’m going to disagree with you because I think this movie has potential to be good especially The relationship between SpongeBob and Gary I thought the story about losing a pet is important.
Dude...Gary come home already did that. And it did it WONDERFULLY. It was very emotional and sweet while also being funny. They didn't need to do it again.
Kamp Koral shouldn't even be a thing, it breaks some of the few existing continuity in Spongebob. Sandy shouldn't be there to even interact with Spongebob because they met in the first season of the show where Spongebob even simps for Sandy so hard that he almost dies, Gary shouldn't be there either Spongebob has mentioned so many times in several episodes that he got Gary from a shelter and Mrs Puff and Mr Krabs shouldn't interact at all, in the episode where Mr Krabs gets a crush for Mrs Puff he doesn't even know her name or if she had a husband or not. If they do something with Gary getting taken to a shelter it can be excusable but the other ones can't
Also, Spongebob got to know Sandy in season 1. Not when he was in Camp Coral. Same with Mr Crabs, Spongebob introduced himself to Mr Crabs in the first ever episode, also not in Camp Coral. They just made episodes from the first season unlogically just to promote Camp Coral🤢

God I wish this was the "alien cat vs sponge" plot instead so much.
Things I like about the new spongebob movie:
1. They brought back the patty wagon
2. *That’s it.*
One thing I liked about it was that it had a remake of "Gary Come Home" play in the end credits I would of appreciate the original play but at least they didn't turn it into some cheesy pop or hip hop that would only please younger people with like 27 popular music icons. But it was actually a nice remake of the song
What about the animation
Spongebob 1: Plankton kicks into high gear, takes over and enslaves Bikini Bottom while Mr Krabs is Frozen and framed by King Neptune
Sponge Out Of Water: Spongebob and Plankton are framed for stealing the formula, leaping the town into an apocalyptic state and the main cast become superheroes to save their world.
@DyingWaffles 15 the first movie takes place in the future and Spongebob and Patrick haven't went to Shell City yet
Writers should have referenced the old episodes when SpongeBob helped someone ( Help Wanted, Band Geeks, Texas, The Fry Cook Games and etc.), instead of ruining the canon with Kamp Koral.
*EXACTLY* !
Most of the characters were good especially patrick however it could have had a better story

I think it was ok. Give it a shot anyway.
Uh, what dislikes? I don’t see any.

But why does spongebob meet sandy at camp when he didn’t in the show.
And why does he meet Gary at camp when he found him at a pound... in the show
So Sponge on the Run is basically "Episode Rehash the Movie", with a not so subtle Backdoor Spin-off as part of the plot.
@@AdmiralColdhead Ah I see. Thanks for clearing that up ^^
SpongeBob never had any continuity
(By the way in the Sandy part lets not forget that she debuted in the third sagment, so she was only missing in 2 at that point, not that much)
But what i mean is when they ignored some stuff that previously established when the plot needs it to be ignored, he's one example the origins of the Krabby Patty Formula in one episode Krabs states that the formula is an old family recipie, but friends or foe shows that the formula was created during his fight with Plankton.
Other example in the ep Spongebob Vs. the Big One, SpongeBob states he has no idea how to surf, even though he already surfed before then.
They had an entire episode where Glove World is closed and a park was opened to replace it but later episodes has Glove World back
In Just One Bite Squidward says he never ate a Krabby Patty, even though he ate of a bunch of Krabby pattiess in the episode where SpongeBob shoes are untied
In Friends or Foes a teenage Krabs cames across a dime for the first time in his life, but we see that he had a dime when he was a kid during the kursty krabs training video
In the ep where he fires Squidward stealing his dime, its implied that Krabs been in the bussiness since prehistory since his first dime is a prehistoric rock, but later eps show that was not the case
In Neptune Spatula, Neptune says he's the rule of Atlantis, but when see Atlantis in a later episode wheree David Bowie's character is the rule
That is what i meant when i said there is really no continuity and i could list others.
Can we all just imagine what the movie would have been like if SpongeBob's friends had mentioned all the times that SpongeBob helped them in the series, and how did they really and canonically knew him instead of the whole Kamp Koral ad?
Now, THAT would have made me cry tears of joy. But no :(
The writers just couldn't stay true to the canon, could they?
PD: I actually thought I was the only one who thought Spongebob getting mad constantly was out of character. I’m honestly glad I’m not! I mean, the charm of his character is that there are just very little moments in which he gets angry, but all of them make sense and are very good reasons, cause he is not like that.

The one thing i don't hear anybody talking about is how the 3D animation sacrifices one major running gag in spongebob:
Detailed zoomed in paintings.
Not once did this movie use a visual like Squidwards 'does this look uncertain' face, or prehistoric patrick smiling at squidward with gross teeth, or something like that, you know the gag. the 3D animation takes that staple from spongebob. that was my biggest problem with the movie. is it petty? yeah, yeah it is. do i care? nope.

I actually liked this film, I liked this more than the spongebob 3D
I think they were trying to tell us that we know the first film (which Stephen Hillenburg directed it) exist, and they didn't want to ruin his legacy?
Even though they made a huge..mistake with the camp coral, still, I think they managed to show us WHY we adored these characters so much
I really appreciated this film because it showed how Spongebob is not just 'annoying character' but has a pure heart, and how Patrick is not just 'dumb seastar',
and Mr.Krabs is not just 'money hungry Krab' but also has a heart for caring Spongebob
I also think that..'secret formula' has done in a brilliant way
Trying not to break Stephen's rule, while telling us what this whole film was about
I can't say it's the best film, I still like the first film the most, but I don't think this is a bad film
I think we have to realize that..after Stephen has passed away, nothing can feel like Stephen Hillenburg's work
There will be some cringey scenes, and some plot holes, but in this film, I think the creators were really trying not to ruin Stephen's work
Being respectful, but ALSO targeting more young audiences for the new step up
It sucks to see..that they included that Camp Coral scene just for the spin-off, but I think they were REALLY trying hard to keep the original fans too, which I appreciate it
Also this film plot..felt like..the parallel universe of the first film.
We can't pray for the exact same work Stephen made
THANK YOU 👏
=D I agree with ya
5:13 that reminds me of a scene from a classic episode, with the line. “GARY!!! YOU ARE GONNA FINISH YOUR DESSERT AND YOU ARE GONNA LIKE IT!!”
It's Never Shown In The Pilot That Spongebob Moves To Bikini Bottom.
They totally contradicted how SpongeBob met his friends at camp instead of the continuity in the TV series.

Apparently, “continuity” was not in their dictionary.
Writers: um what's continuity?
I’m going to disagree with you because I think this movie has potential to be good especially The relationship between SpongeBob and Gary I thought the story about losing a pet is important.
Dude...Gary come home already did that. And it did it WONDERFULLY. It was very emotional and sweet while also being funny. They didn't need to do it again.
They should have made one of the theorizer’s theories the driving plot for the movie, it would have been more compelling and a *real* trip
Dude it's a kids show
@@linalokir2178 it was my favorite kids show. And nickelodeon seemingly reased the great episodes where spongebob first met crabs and sandy just to promote a new money machine.
