I love that the camera hesitates with Sandler's awkward wave before the dolly. This micro-movement really puts us in his nervous mindset by appearing accidental but in actuality is intentional visual storytelling.

You skip right past the insane, 'double cut' that Anderson uses, when he repeats Lena walking around the corner. Every time I see that moment, it surprises me, and it's the kind of thing that most editors would fight hard against. But somehow it works. I think it's a great example of how, despite astute analysis, so much of this is created from feeling and instinct, and can't be planned out in advance, the way you describe.

It's going to be a Marathon with only one spectator, it's going to involve alot of pausing and rewinding as I over examine Mr.Anderson's genius and project my subconscious onto his films and imbue them with meaning of a highly personal significance. Like I did with Kubrik and Coppola, lol I love your channel, if you haven't already, I'd be very interested to see a video on psychedelia in film, sort of like experimental films heavy on surrealism, non-linear narratives and visually groundbreaking(for the era, Vertigo for example, almost feels like a dream, albeit with an obvious narrative to be understood, Inception, Dark City, ofcourse anything by David Lynch and Charlie Kaufman, Im not necessarily listing these films because I feel they are similar, more like that they feature some of those factors I mentioned and since Im well aware of my narrow experience to draw reference from, Im hoping you could point me in the direction of some filmmakers you think I might find fit the bill, so to speak) much love thanks

I think he also went for black and white to emphasize yes on the silhouettes, in order to emphasize the love sign that is created between their chests as the scene finishes. That's why they're connecting their heads at the end, and the ocean and sky blue amplifies that. Also something you didn't talk about is how he adds humour to the scene and it's that combination of laughing plus feeling that makes it so great. He extends his hand, and so does she, as if they're going for a handshake and then the kiss happens. We think wait a second ... Does she wants this as much as him, cause only then we can feel about them as being one. Her bending her knee, a bit too many times in my opinion, instantly answer that and makes us laugh and think, yes it's mutual ... The extending hand is also a bit too much. A character raises his hand that much suggests anxiety and doesn't feel natural he would go all in a second later. But that makes it funny and maybe it wouldn't have worked as good with the more realistic approach.
