@@Phatnaru0002 they're trying to condense the plot of an entire franchise into a few sentences to give people an idea of what it is and if the person doing that doesn't know themselves it's easy for it to get lost in translation. While not entirely acurate they weren't too far off, it satisfies explaining to layman. That's where having an expert on comes in handy, their expert certainly knew what she was talking about, even if the news room wasn't quite sure.

Toriyama almost single-handedly introduced the western world to manga/anime. There were plenty of "action packed cartoons" in that era, but Dragonball was the only one that made people actually question "what is this, its too good to just be a cartoon". Toriyama's creation was not just an amazing manga/anime because of its art style and action. It was a story displaying the importance of loyality, discipline, family, and that a positive outlook on life can trump any tragedy. RIP

I remember getting bullied for a hot minute. Then I got turned on to Dragon Ball Z. I watched it religiously, and finally got the courage to stand up for myself. I joined the wrestling team all the way from my early school years to the ending of my college years. I even got a full scholarship. Even joined the army to test my limits. I loved Dragon Ball as a kid. I loved how it showed difficult characters like Vegeta. It teaches how people are not white and black and enemies can become friends and redemption is possible. It also teaches how you can improve yourself and how you should be always ready to do what’s right and defend those who need to be defended. 😢

I'm sure Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball left a huge impact on the world arts and comics in general, and I'm sure gym rats and enthusiasts were left even more devastated upon hearing the news
People don't understand how important he is. He was a life inspiration for multiple generations. No artists come close to his influence, especially alive. He inspired everything and nobody did it better. And what he wanted first is telling a fun story.

Fans are hurting. What he created influenced and inspired millions. Akira Toriyama enhanced our lives and brought joy to us all. Goku is and always will be my hero. Whenever I'm down or going through hard times I think to myself. What would Goku do? It always helps and reminds me to never give up. And it's thanks to Akira Toriyama that I have this amazing hero.
As a millenial about to turn 40..It's crazy how much we were raised by TV as children. Dragon Ball was a violent show but they always fought the bad guys, and Goku was the ideal of the super kind, happy-go-lucky but extremely powerful character. And The show redeemed two big villains (Piccolo and Vegeta) making one a father figure to Goku's son and the other like a Brother. It really reinforced the idea of not being that bad guy....Just be like Goku and you'll be good 👍🏻
Correct, but Dragon Ball redeemed more than just two big villains. In fact, I think most of Goku's friends or allies were at some point in the story his enemies/rivals: Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu and many more.

Akira Toriyama DEFINED my childhood, you have no idea what DBZ did for me and other young men around the same age. I RELIGIOUSLY watched this after school on Cartoon Network and would let no body distract me during that 30 min period. Every kid in the 90's/early 2000's shared the same childhood memories worldwide thanks to this man! Mr. Toriyama changed the world and influenced so many more professionals that took his artform and made their own! Rest in peace Akira Toriyama!!!! I'm a 40-year-old person who personally feels the loss of someone, one of the greatest people in the world. I grew up with his DB. funny at this age, i still watch it DB on my phone. Legend has gone one by one.
I am 37, bought the first Dragon Ball manga in the 1990s, loved the show, started Hapkido and Bodybuilding because of it and now I am about to finish the series for the 2nd time decades later as a bedtime story with my five year old daughter. Toriyama san was a giant among men.
But he lives on through that art 😭 The characters and world he created was something he created with all his heart and soul, and through that, his essence can still be felt. We're lucky to have that piece of him left inside of his art. And imo it's really even more than that, he inspired people across the entire globe and that's so wild to think about. His heart lives on through the people who's lives he's impacted and his spirit lives on through his art. That's a beautiful gift and all an artist can ask for when they leave this earth. 💔
Dr Rayna looked like this hit her hard. Didn't expect that. I keep forgetting how big Dragonball was and is. Dragonball got people into cosplaying, drawing, learning japanese, taking up martial arts and many other hobbies turned careers. Much respect to Toriyama.

Akira Toriyama for me, was the “Bruce Lee” of manga creators. We’re all saddened to his sudden passing but we’re all be forever grateful to have read his work while he was alive. “Dragon Ball” story will continue to inspire a lot of people in future generation.
i grew up in china and Japanese anime is a huge part of my childhood, especially classics like dragon ball. It incorporates so many Chinese elements, including the main character Goku, so it naturally becomes very popular in china but I never expected it spreads and influences west as well. Toriyama San will continue to be loved by millions of people around the world even he goes to the heaven! RIP❤
As a grown-ass man, I didn't expect myself to shed tears over someone's death. And it was the moment I truly understood how tremendous and irreplaceable what Toriyama sensei left us. i remember when i was a kid watching Dragon Ball, and most adults were worried about it being violent and raising kids with bad examples. fast forward to today, the kids from back then are now adults who cry tears of sadness, joy and gratitude, united all over the world, no matter the language and the culture. Akira Toriyama has been a father, an uncle to all of us, shaping our imagination, creating a unique language, building a bond between us all. And so today instead of talking about violence, you finally hear people talking about how Dragon Ball taught them the values of friendship, hard work, determination, sacrifice, honesty, forgiveness. Toriyama sensei gave us the best example possible, all in all. He deserves to be up there among the greatest artists of the century, and he's been a narrator so powerful he influenced entire generations of other narrators powerful enough to influence the entire world to this day. So long sensei, thank you for everything.
One of the anime that inspired me to never give up to keep training, even if I fail. I grew up with this anime. A Seven-year-old boy in an abusive household. This was one of the anime that kept light in my eyes. Rest in peace, Akira Toriyama. Thank you for all your work.

He was responsible for paving the way to anime and manga entertainment for me. Without him, I’d never have found the gateway into that world of entertainment in the early 2000’s. Dragon ball was the reason why I loved anime and manga and I’ll forever be grateful to Toriyama for sharing his creation with us. RIP.

Woke up today crying silently. I'm at a loss for words and probably will be for quite some time. The only feeling I can describe is just...a weird sort of emptiness. I'll never forget how my eyes were glimmering the first time I saw Goku, Gohan, Goten, Vegeta, and Trunks on the cover of a game that would go on to be one of my best games ever, if not the best. Dragon Ball helped me not to fall into depression and gave me the motivation and inspiration to work out. Dragon Ball also showed me not to give up on my dreams and to enjoy the grind. While not entirely acurate they weren't too far off, it satisfies explaining to layman. That's where having an expert on comes in handy, their expert certainly knew what she was talking about, even if the news room wasn't quite sure.

Toriyama almost single-handedly introduced the western world to manga/anime.
There were plenty of "action packed cartoons" in that era, but Dragonball was the only one that made people actually question "what is this, its too good to just be a cartoon".
Toriyama's creation was not just an amazing manga/anime because of its art style and action. It was a story displaying the importance of loyality, discipline, family, and that a positive outlook on life can trump any tragedy.

I remember getting bullied for a hot minute. Then I got turned on to Dragon Ball Z. I watched it religiously, and finally got the courage to stand up for myself. I joined the wrestling team all the way from my early school years to the ending of my college years. I even got a full scholarship. Even joined the army to test my limits. I loved Dragon Ball as a kid. I loved how it showed difficult characters like Vegeta. It teaches how people are not white and black and enemies can become friends and redemption is possible. It also teaches how you can improve yourself and how you should be always ready to do what’s right and defend those who need to be defended. 😢

Despite the challenges of manga creation, he managed to complete "Dragon Ball" without compromising quality. The speed and quality of his work were so unbelievable that he became a legendary figure, revered as a god by all manga artists.
Akira Toriyama changed the world from a small room in rural Japan, with just paper and pen. Moreover, he didn't set out to change the world; he simply did what he loved.
Even if credited with changing the world, he would likely modestly say, "I could only draw," and shyly smile. He might even think of his death as merely the passing of one rural person.
Still, we are saddened by your passing.

As a millenial about to turn 40..It's crazy how much we were raised by TV as children. Dragon Ball was a violent show but they always fought the bad guys, and Goku was the ideal of the super kind, happy-go-lucky but extremely powerful character. And The show redeemed two big villains (Piccolo and Vegeta) making one a father figure to Goku's son and the other like a Brother. It really reinforced the idea of not being that bad guy....Just be like Goku and you'll be good 👍🏻

Correct, but Dragon Ball redeemed more than just two big villains. In fact, I think most of Goku's friends or allies were at some point in the story his enemies/rivals: Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu and many more.

It's wild to see academia respecting this stuff today , when I was a kid it was common for it to be laughed off in school as something not worth valuing. I guess the folks in my generation are starting to make the rules now!

I am 37, bought the first Dragon Ball manga in the 1990s, loved the show, started Hapkido and Bodybuilding because of it and now I am about to finish the series for the 2nd time decades later as a bedtime story with my five year old daughter. Toriyama san was a giant among men.
The first anime I ever watched was Dragon Ball Z as a little kid and it’s been my favorite ever since….RIP Mr. Toriyama 🟡
Now everytime you watch dragon ball you will realize the heart of every character in dragon ball not just the creator has passed away.
But he lives on through that art 😭 The characters and world he created was something he created with all his heart and soul, and through that, his essence can still be felt. We're lucky to have that piece of him left inside of his art. And imo it's really even more than that, he inspired people across the entire globe and that's so wild to think about. His heart lives on through the people who's lives he's impacted and his spirit lives on through his art. That's a beautiful gift and all an artist can ask for when they leave this earth. 💔

I talked to her when it happened (she's my tutor) - she's very emotionally affected (as we all are)
35 years old and Toriyama's influence has been felt throughout every stage of my life. I loved the OG Dragon Ball as a pre-schooler. I loved DBZ as a teenager. And loved Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest as an adult.

Akira Toriyama for me, was the “Bruce Lee” of manga creators. We’re all saddened to his sudden passing but we’re all be forever grateful to have read his work while he was alive. “Dragon Ball” story will continue to inspire a lot of people in future generation.

It incorporates so many Chinese elements, including the main character Goku, so it naturally becomes very popular in china but I never expected it spreads and influences west as well. i remember when i was a kid watching Dragon Ball, and most adults were worried about it being violent and raising kids with bad examples.
fast forward to today, the kids from back then are now adults who cry tears of sadness, joy and gratitude, united all over the world, no matter the language and the culture.
Akira Toriyama has been a father, an uncle to all of us, shaping our imagination, creating a unique language, building a bond between us all.
And so today instead of talking about violence, you finally hear people talking about how Dragon Ball taught them the values of friendship, hard work, determination, sacrifice, honesty, forgiveness.
Toriyama sensei gave us the best example possible, all in all.
He deserves to be up there among the greatest artists of the century, and he's been a narrator so powerful he influenced entire generations of other narrators powerful enough to influence the entire world to this day.

This loss affect all the world and generations. I'm Cambodian from France and 41 years old. I'm not a manga fan but I still watch Dragon Ball and DBZ just for the history. Goku was really my model for his energy, humility and kindness until to this day. I use to step back for the loss of celebrity but not this time.
