  • In this video, you will learn how to use Dimensions in Revit. This is part 1 and I will cover the aligned, linear, and angled dimension types. The linear type properties are covered and honestly account for 90% of all dimension type properties you need to be aware of. This video should go over nearly all the different ways you can use dimensions. Thanks for watching!

In respect to the dimension text override, there is an instance where I use it. When doing a renovation on an existing building, you generally do a site measure. When you get to documenting in Revit, dimensioning any existing site feature or structure, I put the suffix (COS) - check on site after the dimension. If you don't do that, and the builder constructs a wall in the wrong location, you are liable.

Ahh, I like this and it's a perfect example of where to use this!

Im new to Revit and i want to know if there is a way to put dimension between 2 lines like heart to heart on a beams next to each other on Cad its just super easy , just type the dimension like 610mm and put it between 2 lines like the command " MID BETWEEN TO POINT" Revit doesn't have that

You’re correct, Revit does not unfortunately. What I can tell you to do is use the temporary dimensions. Depending on what is in your view will determine how the temporary dimensions are populated. You can always place the dimension where you want to specify this number, select one of the objects, then edit that number. Hope that helps.

oof 40 min of part 1 of dims. I was going to skip over these but I had to see what you had to talk about for 3 parts lol. I learned some stuff though, a lot of settings I also don't use.
This was a very good video though, I highly would recommend for someone to watch this to learn about all the settings. The only thing that I would watch out for for future people reading this, is to make sure you duplicate your dimension style if you are going to start messing with the settings. Maybe you did not mention it on purpose, but you didn't go over how to override dimensions with fake dimensions. I did not know about the show opening height, that could be useful!

I agree that the video ended up very long, I try not to go that long but I care more about getting everything covered. Definitely duplicate the type before making changes and name appropriately, your right. I mentioned how to do some basic overrides with text but that was about it. There are just so many different setting for dimensions which is why it’s so long. Thanks for making it through!
