    Pete, the hundreds of hours you've spent with a guitar in your hands really shows in everything you play, you're an incredible guitarist. You write a piece for every pedal you review...how can you keep burning all these incredible song ideas on demo vids??? I hope the folks who hire you, and the folks watching these vids realize how much you put into them. cheers

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thanks so much! Doing the vids has been a great way to hone my writing/production chops, I've been able to improve in almost every area, even playing bass, drum programming, etc. so it's been great for me from a practice and learning perspective!

      +Pete Thorn Pete, You have BY FAR the best demo channel on TH-cam. Your playing and songwriting are killer. I love that you don't just noddle some solos but actually explain and demonstrate the various controls and what to expect out of them. We can tell you've put a lot of time into learning how to use each piece of gear. Thanks! (And I'm enjoying the hell out of Guitar Nerd!)

      +Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials Mr. Thorn is indeed a master of his craft and sets the standard for these types of demos. It's only fair to mention that Mr. Shutup & Play is no slouch in the tutorial category and easily makes my shortlist of guitar oriented YT channels.

    • @psychojackjack2139
      @psychojackjack2139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ben acosta would you consider this a good brown sound pedal? I love a nice distortion that gets great harmonics but I hate pedals or amps that are too much gain or buzzy.

    • @1972bacosta
      @1972bacosta 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This pedal is simply amazing, it does a variety of sounds and sounds as good as the demos of it. I don't normally like distortion / drive pedals, I'm more of get the crunch from the amp and boost with a tubescreamer kinda guy. I could not find one bad sound from this pedal.

  • @justinainsworth6264

    As the owner of an old 4 hole Marshall, this pedal in the 100 watt mode comes closest to the feel and sound of my amp cranked to 8. The Morning Glory placed in front of the AT set extremely low gain with the hi cut off adds the wild top end for some of the gnarlier Marshall sounds. The extra compression it has on tap simulates the feeling of playing extremely loud.
    People often overlook that gain needs to decrease as volume increases to keep a similar feel/tone across varying volume levels. Which is also why many loud amp users are big time volume knob riders, and many of those amps sound better with guitar vol backed off a touch. While old Marshalls aren't crazy high gain like this pedal has on tap, playing at or above 120 dB has the feel of a lot more gain than it is. At least with regards to sustain and note fullness.

    Melodic Sensibility....what a great phrase .. A concept that Frank could have noodled with...

  • @JohnJimmyJoe
    @JohnJimmyJoe 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I saw that you were on the clean channel, I couldn't believe it. That pedal sounds very natural. That being said, I own a PT100, and it takes pedals better than any amp I've played before. So kudos, not only on the design of this pedal, but also to Pete and John Suhr on the amp design.

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Holy shit, between Pete Thorn and Andy Timmons you kind of have this halo of greatness surrounding this thing. I still think the AC might sound better to my ears, but I really like the knobs and power wattage settings... I might need to get both and then sell one...

  • @fullmetalsal
    @fullmetalsal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I closed my eyes and listened and felt like it was an actual amp - amazeballs

  • @MrFrenchHarp
    @MrFrenchHarp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    One of THE baddest guitar players in the world, imho. And absolutely the best guy doing demos on youtube. Your riffs stay MELODIC and I think its harder to stay melodic the more notes you use.. but you do it tastefully. SWEET. Trying hard to decide between the AT version and the V3 version... so Pete, what do you think are the pros and cons and your choice IF you had to choose only one?

    • @StephaneBergeronPixelyzed
      @StephaneBergeronPixelyzed 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Blues Harp Not Pete obviously ;), but I've heard a ton of demos of both and got the AT for myself and I'm very happy with my choice. It's very easy to dial in a good tone with the AT and it's a lot more versatile than the AC v3 because of the mode switch. It covers a lot more gain variations from less gain, more crunchy and more headroom than the AC v3 to more gain, saturation and compression than the AC on the 25 Watt position. From what I understand, the 50 Watt position would be closest to the AC v3 aside from the tone control differences of course. So 100 W mode can get you in overdrive territory at low gain settings while 25 W mode gives you more gain than the AC without loosing any clarity or notes definition. It just rips.
      Hope this helps :)

    • @MrFrenchHarp
      @MrFrenchHarp 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stéphane Bergeron Thanks man.. appreciate the advice. I am looking for a used AT now.

    • @MrFrenchHarp
      @MrFrenchHarp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well Ive had the V3 and the AT and I absolutely love the AT better. The EQ on the V3 is voiced horribly. Ive noticed that it seems the AT in the 100 watt toggle setting has less of this unpleasant compression squeak in the treble range that I feel is less pedal like and more like actual tube compression. I felt that the 25 watt mode only made this unpleasant sound in the attack in the highs more prononced.. but hey, this is one guitar into one amp so its an arguable opinion based on little time experimenting. Ive only JUST got this pedal and I really wish I could compare the non-smd style board of the V2 that I used to own to this AT version.. but so far Im liking it. This video and the video from Andy Timmons himself sold me on giving it a try.

  • @StephaneBergeronPixelyzed
    @StephaneBergeronPixelyzed 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome demo as usual Pete! I now have one of those pedals and I absolutely love it. Best dist/od pedal I ever owned.
    BTW, the 2 EQ controls are LOW pass filters, not high pass. It preserves the bass response of your amp. I play my AT through the clean channel of a "Red Knobs" early 90s Fender Twin which is a massively loud amp with lots of low end and can be quite bright like many Fender amps (but not excessive). The AT sounds spectacular through it.
    The modes switch make it very versatile too covering a lot of gain and feel territory. But that pedal never gets muddy or harsh. JHS did a great job with this one!

    • @ryanforresterrenaissancesa4204
      @ryanforresterrenaissancesa4204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am concerned with this pedal de-emphasizing low notes (as is common with overdrive/distortion pedals such as the Tube Screamer). What is your experience? Thanks.

    • @StephaneBergeronPixelyzed
      @StephaneBergeronPixelyzed 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This pedal is not like a Tube Screamer at all. It doesn't de-emphasize low notes in my experience with it. Tube Screamer type pedals are made for that mid push that does affect the low end but not this pedal here. It's not a boost, it's a real distortion pedal. I run mine with the EQ knob at around 11 o'clock and the Air knob at around 1. Gain almost maxed and the switch on the 100 watts mode.

    Hey some of you folks below, Pete says it "mimics" watt differentials not actually creates them. Having said that I purchased a freaking Sick 30 volt over drive from Pete's channel and works great! This has three different voltages and sounds great! Have used it as my crunch sound through a super sonic twin for three years now. Keep trying to see if anything as good but have not yet so satisfied. I do have a Myriad of ODS and currently also use a KOT, Wampler P Plus and an Archer gold on my live board as well. Having said all that...... I just purchased a used AT from Chicago M Exchange this aft after mulling over and watching this video a number of times. I used a Distillery after speaking with Mr. Gill and Luke but ran out of room. It does work well for back line amps. So...... Thanks again Pete! I look forward to this experience and always a fan of yours and the P & T show. Thanks for making me spend yet more hard earned dough. Fellow Canuk JD

    Hey Pete. Great sounding pedal and great review. One thing, technically the filter is a low pass filter because it allows low frequencies to pass and filters high frequencies. A high pass filter is what you use to roll off the bottom end. And I can't believe you call yourself a hack. Your playing is beyond freaky. Respect.

    Andy an old mate from school, and even though I may show a little prejudiced because of that ;) this pedal fucking rocks, I have scaled my board down to a chorus cs9 so I can run stereo a dd7 and the JHS @ and that's it and I freaking love it into any amp I run through, so I have a carry rig guitar this little pedal board and I'm happy I love that pedal, tone junkies will be happy

    Oh man, great demo Pete! Just what I needed. Check out the new Fender Bassbreaker 15, this is a perfect complement to the amp

      Rob Correll - I feel the same way! Pete is one of most amazing guitarists I have ever heard. His demos make me want to buy too many pedals! But I still come back for more listening time and time again ;-)
      But all joking aside Pete...thanks so much for all your amazing playing and demo videos :)

    With the pedals you review like this one, are they pedals you've just tried out and really liked? What I mean is, in between these reviews, are there a bunch of pedals that you try and don't like for whatever reason (less 'amp-like' pedals, perhaps) and thus don't review? Good tones and playing as always, Pete!

    I use an MXR Distortion III for my heavier guitartones. I have tried a lot of pedals that have more "cred" but still have not found one that works as well and allround as the MXR for plugging into a clean amp and that doesn't produce a lot of odd overtone interference with single coil pickups. I've seen Andy demo this pedal himself, but he's using an Ibanez guitar with a humbucker bridge pickup and some rail pickups in the other positions. Also in this demo by Pete, humbucker axes are used throughout. It would be nice to hear this pedal with a strat or a tele. If it passes that test, my MXR may be in danger of being retired to the bench.

    You are amazing.... Again. Your playing simultaneously inspires me to want to play more AND makes me wanna quit playing guitar; pick up an accordion or something...Cause I'll never be able to play anywhere near as good as you! Oh ya Guitar Nerd is a great "Album". Keep up the great work man.
