So we have the nastiest water ever, If I used anything less than the platinum plus I would have spots galore, even with rinse aid, my black plastic cooking utensils would come out white, I had never had such issues with residue and cloudiness left behind before and this is the only detergent that leaves them glossy black and “Cabinet ready” after the cycle with no hard water staining, it’s a total miracle and I’ve had to try absolutely everything since I’ve moved here, I have tested every detergent you could imagine and in my testing in the past three years with my extreme hard water I’ve found Finish and Cascade to work completely identically as each other they are both high quality detergents. I said in a review about this Plus product about a year ago now that I don’t understand why Cascade doesn’t advertise this as being their best product for hard water conditions because it exceeded results of the regular Platinum variety in my machine with our horrible water cycle after cycle. The Finish Ultimate and Cascade Platinum Plus are equivalent, and the best for hard water conditions which is what consumer reports leaves out of their collection of evidence per what you found that you told me. At the end of all this just know it entirely depends on your water hardness, the harder the water, the more power the detergent will need to achieve the standard.

Why do you think there’s a detergent dispenser? If it didn’t run a pre wash before the main wash they wouldn’t add detergent dispensers into the doors. Detergent needs something to grab onto and clean in order to work, so loading rinsed dishes is giving the detergent nothing to remove besides the material of the dishware. I don’t get why people think dishwashers need to be babied, my 2005 Whirlpool cleans AMAZINGLY with caked on soils and grime loaded into it. It makes ZERO sense to load a dishwasher with dishes that are fully rinsed. What is the point in that?? My dad says it makes the motor wear down more if you don’t pre rinse. I’ve tried to tell him that he doesn’t need to pre rinse, but he says he worked in oil refinery, so he “knows about motors”. Is he right about the motor thing?
Appliance repair man here. DON'T PRERINSE. Detergent needs dirt to activate the enzymes it contains and, if it doesn't find anything to "eat", detergent will damage plastics (because they contain oils which the detergent is looking for) and yes, even the dishwasher. So your dad was absolutely wrong, it's prerinsing that wears your dishwasher down
Ok hold up. Theres a difference between rinsing off some loose salad dressing but if that shit has coated the plate and has hardened, I can tell you right now, the dishwasher aint gonna do anything

Can everyone just relax? It's a happy medium. You need to give a QUICK rinse, there's no need to put elbow grease into it. Grab a dish, hold it under water, uses dish soapy scrub brush and give a 3sec scrub, then place in dishwasher. Fair? Can we stop arguing now?
That’s always what ai thought too….until I got a new dishwasher. The ones they are making now, are friggin awesome. I use the cheapest powder detergent I can find, and my dishes are clean as a whistle without ever seeing a faucet ahead of time. I have literally tried to get a dish to stay dirty after a wash and I cannot make it happen under normal conditions.

For me, I only load the dishwasher if there is stuff on it. If there is nothing on it, I put it away.

They should have done the testing for a year and watch the dishwasher filter get clogged with gunga and smell like a sewer plant

Yes it will. Make sure you put both the detergent packs and the prewash in the dishwasher. Using just the detergent pack isn't enough.
