I’ve seen the 5500 going for 80-95 USD a lot recently. If you don’t mind spending afew extra dollars, I think the performance uplift might be worth it. But this is by no means a terrible buy for a 6 core cpu in late 2022-early 2023,however going for a bit newer cpu will for sure give you some headroom to focus more on a gpu upgrade in the future.
Was wondering about that as well. Only slightly higher in price to 4500. But still a good bit cheaper than 5600. And all with the game (at certain resellers).
@@WamblyHades R5 5500 It's better than the 3600 in most games, closer to the 5600 than the 3600 in applications, especially after tuning, less power hungry, and the 4500 is identical to the 3600 in terms of architecture, so it lacks many of the features available in the 5500, such as PBO. Also, these 3600 have been breaking down lately, so the 5500 is becoming an even better choice in my opinion.
A couple of weeks ago I built a productivity PC for a client, based around this chip. I used it because I got it on sale for a very reasonable price (about $70). It performed really well, scoring almost 10,000 in Cinebench R23, and of course the end user will not ever work it that hard.

He says he's very happy with the machine, and that it beats the crap out of the laptop he was using with a bunch of USB to HDMI adapters.

you prolly don't realize it, but you're quite literally the best reviewer because of the realistic setups and builds and you aren't fast to throw shade on hardware which makes most buyers from outside of the USA or UK more settled when it comes to buying.
My old computer was i7-2600k R9 370 4Gb It was good, but I felt the need for an upgrade, and I decided to change to Ryzen 5 4500 (It was in Romania at a price of £87.41) Gtx 1660 Super And I can say that he behaves brilliantly.
In my case, the 5500 is roughly the same price as the 4500. Though I think I'll splurge a bit and go for the 5600, since it's not much more expensive than both of those. Should be a nice boost from my 1400 :P
In the Philippines its CPU-motherboard bundle is being listed at about 2,000 to 3,000 PHP (35 to 52 USD) cheaper than 10th or 12th Gen i3 and i5 bundles as well as older generation Ryzen 5 bundles at local online shopping options. So it can make sense as a cheap upgrade to people with much older i3, i5, or Ryzen 3 systems here at least. Two to three thousand PHP is no insignificant amount here, especially to budget PC builders.

Those look like CPU only prices, and I've only seen the 4500 as part of a CPU-mobo bundle. A Ryzen 5 4500 bundle is available in Lazada mall at 12,499. Contrast the Ryzen 5 3600 bundle at 15,499 and an i5 10400 bundle at 14,000+. Shopee also has a bundle mislabeled as a Ryzen 5 4600G going for 10,600+, though it's at a Preferred shop instead of Shopee Mall.

Recently built a friends' PC base off of the 5500 (around 100 euros), this CPU is very quiet and cool even with the stock cooler, and alongside a RX 6600 it performs really good, all around an amazing cheap build for 1080p 144hz great performances. Plus a used A520M motherboard bought for around 35 euros , which was an awesome deal
My board is an ASrock A320M-HDV and I have went from Ryzen 3 1200 to a Ryzen 5 5600. I know this board is not the best for it but knowing it works just fine after I've updated the BIOS and seeing how much of a jump my perfomance got increased with the same board really amazes me. I'm sure somebody coming from a first-gen Ryzen would see a lot of improvement going to a 4500.
@@lagginswag It does have a BIOS version that is said to support ryzen 3000 series, but no mention of newer series. And it also mentions the update is not recommended. Haha. Whatever we do is at our own risk.

Cool. Proudly still using my R5 2600 6 core and im happy to say it still kicks ass in 2022 and almost 2023. Been playing gotham knights which kicks pc's asses, with my 5700xt aswell and on medium settings and fsr enabled, im a damn fine robin. If i can continue to play AAA games on medium settings (sometimes high depending on the game) between 30-60 fps then im more than happy. Its been like 4 years now and id say thats good money spent.
yeah you are right mate, im using 2600 with a a320 mobo and in many games like spider man MM, spider man remastered, plague tale requiem this cpu seriously hold back my rtx 2060 super, like gpu usages not even passing 60% most of the time, i want to upgrade because i play mostly AAA story games :( all though MM running slightly better and doesn't feel any jitter when i unlock my fps otherwise in most open world games if you play unlock frame its feel like im playing 30-40 fps even playing 70-80 fps lol
@@Ryzen-gh1en Check for a Zen 3 Bios upgrade, if one's available just put a zen3 chip in and have done with it. I used to have an R7 1700 on a B450 and that was holding back my 2060S so I bought an R5 5500 for £111 in summer (the 5600 was £189 at the time so not really worth it to me) and it freshened up my build nicely, frame times are better and random stutters fewer.
Same R5 2600 with 32GB RAM, B450 mobo and an AMD RX 6600 8GB GPU, just upgraded from a 6GB 1060. Perfect for 1080p gaming however I think the R5 2600 will be going next year in favour of a 3700x/5700x
Just bought a Ryzen 5 5600G and a motherboard for about $250 through Amazon. The CPU was just $120, less than half of what I paid for a 7700K some years back. AMD's been killing it these past few years. Awesome vid keep it up!

^ Raytracing is not an important metric when looking for a GPU. The adoptability of RT is so slow and the computing power needs to be that of enthusiast grade hardware. Even the lower class RTX cards suck at raytracing so stop spreading this crap around to deter people from buying a RX 6K series GPU. Drivers with the RX 6K series are also super stable. If you want to grab a Radeon card then there’s nothing stopping you aside from the Nvidia fanboys telling you fallacies that were born almost a decade ago.
@@jason-65 It still runs pretty well in te games I have but I don't have that many intensive games. I runs 7 Days to Die at high settings at 100 or so fps with my 1070.

There's a 6600XT Pcie scaling review over at Techpowerup, and it scales just like a 3080 does, i.e even at Pcie 2 is retains the vast majority of its potential, and the difference between Pcie 3 and 4 is virtually nonexistent. I still would advise going for the 5500 or 5600 if possible, but yeah Pcie 3/4 considerations are still not a problem outside of the 6400/6500XT.

This CPU is 85 euros new here in Belgium, while the 3600 can be found for 95 both including shipping. Considering you get PCIe 4.0 and generally slightly better performance with the 3600, it seems like the better choice in this market.
Great little budget CPU I'm using for all my sub £500 builds at the moment! £75 at CCL as I write this! Yes, there's limitations but hay just slap a 5600x or something in down the line and happy days! Great video as always 😁
Interestingly, in Poland this one is now just a little bit cheaper now than Ryzen 5500, which is not amazing (mostly on par with the old Ryzen 3600), but with the price drops also became one of the most attractive low-budget CPUs. I'd probably go for 5500 building a budget AM4 rig right now, the higher clocks and extra 8 MB of cache memory should give it a lot more longevity/some limited upgrade potential.
Te 3600 ostatnio padają, ogólnie te procesory zen 2 są straszną loterią, czy to r5 czy to r7 czy to r9, potrafią paść same z siebie częściej niż zen/zen+ i zen 3, także ja bym brał za każdym razem 5500 względem 3600, mimo że tam w kilku na kilkanaście przypadków będzie gorszy na przez tą pamięć cache, to w ogólnym rozrachunku ma więcej funkcji i jest fajniejszym procesorem, mówię jako jego posiadacz.
@@werwito6723 Składałem 3600x z 2 lata temu i walił bluescreeny przy obciążeniu wszystkich 12 wątków w losowych odstępach czasu. Po nieznacznym obniżeniu prędkości RAM ( poniżej stockowych ) odzyskał 100% stabilność. Ram był dobry, sprawdzony w innym sprzęcie AMD. Także jestem gotów uwierzyć w felerność Zen2. Kumpel ma 3600 od ponad roku i śmiga bez problemu za to.
It seemed silly for this video to compare it to an Intel CPU. The thing I wanted to know was how it compares to say the RYZEN 2700 and 3600 which are either an option or you might be upgrading from.
At launch for MSRP the CPU wasn't very appealing. I managed to snag one with the Uncharted Collection for $70 for a budget PC build for a cousin from my local microcenter. Managed to piece together a respectable entry level PC build with a $60 B450 board, $40 16GB of DDR4-3200, $100 Used 1660ti, $35 EVGA PSU, $50 1TB NVME SSD, and $40 mATX case. Yes the 5600 and the 5500 are better but if you're within a limited budget, this will work absolutely fine. Just pair it with a lower end GPU. Also, don't forget you do still have an upgrade path on AM4 with this CPU. Can easily get close to what you paid MSRP for it on eBay down the line to upgrade to a 5700x or something if you absolutely need it.
Got one of these just this week for around $95. Really capable for the price. Performance gains have been fairly marginal in everyday stuff, but some CPU-bound games have almost doubled in framerate compared to my old Ryzen 5 1600.
This is definitely a video I needed at the moment. I run a 1060 6Gb with a Ryzen 3 1200 and if it was cool the first years in 2017 to 2019, some games started to struggle on the CPU side and made games a lot harder to run. In the meantime, I got interested in 3D, Unreal Engine and some other productivity app and 4 cores 4 threads aren't enough to run smoothly. I was looking for a cheap but decent performance CPU to get on the same motherboard and Ryzen 4500 and 5500 caught my attention. I was wondering if the 4500 would be a better choice over 5500 and it seems true. This is the last upgrade of this rig, next time I'll get something completely new
Stretch it too the 5600 as the extra cpu cache & clock speed will help in the tasks you are doing for a fairly cheap price without swapping platform entirely. Even if you pick up a used gpu say 1.5 years from now like a 3080 it will perform well as is.
The 5500 is significantly better and usually only 10-20€ more expensive in Europe right now. In the US, it's different still - but $80-100 for a 5500 on sale will easily beat a $65-75 4500 in price/performance. Especially because you can easily undervolt 5th gen with Curve Optimizer and get full 4450Mhz all core in games.

I always enjoy seeing the lower end parts get covered, since most reviewers wrote off the 4500 as "junk" pretty much immediately at launch. Still, while it might not be the best 6-core you can buy or the best value to some, it has its place in the PC world. It's far from the worst CPU out there if you can find it even cheaper than its current msrp, or better yet as part of some deal with a decent AM4 board if you're building for the first time.
@@wayland7150 that's not bad at all. Around what a used 3600/3600x "should" cost, but naturally new is better than used since some people abuse the hell out of them with improper OC (too much voltage, poor heatsink, etc). However, those CPUs offer PCIe gen 4 (which helps in some instances, like with the 6500xt) and 32mb L3 cache vs 8mb on the 4500. But I understand why it's like that. It was intended to be a 4600h if I had to guess. But the iGPU likely had poor yields so they removed it from the die, put it on the substrate they use for AM4 chips, and upped the TDP from 35-45w to 65w to make it a desktop CPU.
I have this little guy on my pc, it was cheaper than the 5500, around 150 BRL cheaper, and the benchmarks that I watched only called for 3 fps difference, which I didn't care. But it performs amazingly for me, and even with a 3060ti, the little guy pushed through

Was going to go for this CPU but the Ryzen 5 5500 is only $10 more at Microcenter. On top of the $25 off coupon I got from submitting my build to Microcenter, I can get the 5500 for $64.99.
I've done a build for a friend of mine with a 15 years old pc, who couldn't afford an upgrade to a more modern PC. I've managed to scrape a system with leftovers: a Ryzen 5 4500, an RX 580 8GB, 16 GB DDR4 3200MHZ and a decent nVME. He's able to play any game with decent details in 1080p and the processor is holding up nicely to the challenge with no issues whatsoever. For the price and the allotted budget it was a very pleasant discovery and he's very satisfied with it. And he's still able to do some upgrade with no effort.
pairing these with a nice b450 board like the gigabyte ultra durable b450 wifi & 16gb of some cheap teamgroup ram is undefeated. Built a ton of builds using this chip with some slightly used rx 5700's (ebay in the states has these for DIRT cheap) and was able to build a beautiful gaming rig for under 600$ And the best part is the am4 platform still has a ton to offer in terms of upgrading if you go with a budget chip. Now is such a good time to build a amd ddr4 setup for the cheap even got a fully addresable RGB case from montech with great airflow.
The fact this is one of 2 videos I've seen even acknowledge this CPU is kinda fascinating in its own way But on the 4500, as a owner of this very chip, for a budget 1080p 60 fps rig, I'd be pressed to recommend elsewhat for this hypothetical rig (altho if a RTX 30 or even 40 series card is even in consideration, then why is this your starting point?) Basically, if you can keep your expectations in check, I'd be lying if I'd say I wouldn't recommend this, especially for a first build
I just bought this at ₹ 8400 ($103) replacing my old R5 2400G (which I built a PC around this and A320 for my brother). Some people are comparing this to i3 12100F ( $120 + expensive Motherboard) which doesn't make any sense. It's a good CPU if we consider the price of MoBo too.
I swear if you listen to the average PC/gaming youtuber, you'd think half of the CPU's and GPU's on the market run Pacman at 20 FPS and are crimes against humanity. But then when you check the benchmarks they're actually pretty good. Notably flawed, but still pretty good for normal people who don't spend 3000 USD on a PC. For most normal people, 1080p High-Ultra at 100 FPS is already a great experience. The question is at what price is it worth it. And the answer to that will depend on your country and local market. Only TH-camrs like RandomGaminginHD and LowSpecGamer understand this.
The Ryzen 5 4500 didn't see a worldwide release, I believe it was an OEM only SKU in Australia and you couldn't buy it in retail boxed form. If you're in Australia, right now on Amazon USA it's priced at AU$135.01 / US$90 / £75, which isn't great value. On the other hand there is plenty of stock of the older Ryzen 5 3600, and it was being cleared out for as little as $111 on Singles Day (equivalent to £62 Pounds or US$75). The Ryzen 5 5600G is however is priced just a little more and it outperforms the Ryzen 3600 by a fair margin so that's also a strong choice for anyone that's building a PC and also wants integrated graphics to go with it. Just beware that both the G series processors and the Ryzen 5 5500 doesn't have PCIE 4.0 support.
6:17 I was able to get mine for $80. And along side it, got a GTX980 4gb for 50 bucks!! And let me tell you, its a lot better than my previous specs that consisted of an Anthlon X4950, and a GT1030 2gb ddr5. Thanks for making this vid btw, it helped me alot deciding what cpu to pick to replace my x4950 while also staying on a tight budget.
Just picked up this exact CPU for $80us shipped to my door, paired it with an Aorus b450 motherboard for a grand total of $175us and I'm very happy with the performance. That being said I am upgrading from a Ryzen 3 2200 so..

I think the 4600G makes a good case for itself as well because someone on a budget could get away without a Graphics card for a while.... Just have to be careful with the Bios on used A320 boards as some of them are still on their original Bios so you could end up with a no boot situation unless you have a 2600 or 3600 or similar to flash the Bios and in some cases even a 3600 won't boot if the Bios is too old.
The problem for this CPU is a bigger brother, the 5500 or the 5600 depending on budget. With a 5500 being near $100 USD it's hard to go less on money when the benefits are so large going up to a 5500, and for those with the extra $25, going up to $125 is the 5600. Getting Zen 3 and finding a B550 for around $100 USD is just a FAR better buy. It also allows for a more realistic upgrade being on a B550 to step up to the 5800X3D. So, if you get decent CL16 3200 memory, something like 16-18-18-38, you're doing well for the 5500 or 5600 and if you ever upgrade to the 5800X3D, that memory gives about the same results as 3600 memory. So, spending a little more to get something like the Gigabyte B550M Ultra Durable which includes 2 NVMe ports for around $100 USD gives you an ideal setup for that future upgrade to the 5800X3D and THAT system will game for the next decade because of how good it is. It can give near 100% uplifts over Zen+ for gaming. That kind of uplift in 2 generations is unheard of.
The 5600 is a beast at $125, great value with some cheap memory and AM4 board. Where I live $160 is currently the cheapest, but still well worth it imo.
I think you should have compared to another AMD 6 core like a 5500. Games respond differently to different architecture. Also I question whether you had resizeable bar turned off for the intel.
If a friend asked me to build him or her a general use PC that can occasionally run most games at a playable level, I'd very likely use an R5 4500, included cooler, an A320 board, 16GB of 3200 CL16, a 1TB SATA SSD, an RX 6600 (gotta have at least 8GB of VRAM), a 500W PSU, and a DIY F2 case with a 24" 60-75Hz 1080p VA display. Add a basic backlit keyboard/mouse combo and a set of headphones with a mic. Install Windows 10 with an OEM key, and that friend is on the way to being a gamer. All that is brand new parts can be had for $720 US (before tax), roughly $256 more than the entry, bare bones price of Zen4 CPU, cooler, mobo, and DDR5 alone. It would sufficiently impress anyone who's never had a gaming PC at all.
I had the pleasure of putting a build together with one. At $139 it made no sense, at $79 its a steal. It performs similar to a 3600 minus pcie gen 4. It’s basically a 2600af.
I only play 4k with my 4500 and I´m happy with totally worth it´s price(ande the sand and water it needed to be manufactured). Also the b450 motherboards are very cheap.
Bought this as a place holder but I've found no reason to change it. Bit of a strange sounding setup, it started in a system with a 3060 and 32gb ram. I was going to change it for a 5800x but found in my use case it was hardly breaking a sweat. So the money I saved not getting a 5800 and through the sale of my 3060 I put towards a 3090. For me it's all about the gpu, vram and system ram. This cheap thing is controlling them like a boss, with headroom to do other things while my work is rendering. One thing I would say if you're thinking about getting one is that it's not got much of a cache, which could cause dips if you're a gamer and the amount of pcie lanes is limited, so you'd have to keep a check on what you have plugged in. Going to 8x on your gpu isn't the end of the world but 4x will make a difference.
LOL, i'm doing the exact same thing right now. exchanging a 10 years-old i7 with a used Ryzen 5 4500 + used rtx 3090 :D. I don't intend to do that much gaming though (mainly Machine Learning Stuff), so the GPU is the most important thing for me.
As much as I love this channel and have been subbed and watching for a few years now I have to say this. Your formula for your videos needs to be updated to be more interesting and fun (Like Dawid Does Tech) and less like a college professor lecture half way through the video until the bell rings. I ordered a 5500 for 87.24$ total after tax and shipping. 4500 is cool but neither offer pcie 4.0 which I don’t mind because I’m gonna try dropping it in my old crosshair vi hero. Seeing as those cores are stronger than my old 1700x.. and I’ll drop my 1700x in some little mini build. Hope what I read online with the bios updates supporting that chip on that board actually working would be awesome
I bought a 5500 in the summer to update my 1700(non x) in my B450 Thawk max pcb and it has improved my frame timings and reduced random stutters, to me that's at least as important as FPS uplift.
My 5600x's pcie controller has died so I have bought this as a temporary processor while I wait to buy a better one. At the moment I can't even use the 16x pcie slot as it's controlled by the CPU. I've already replaced the motherboard and confirmed the GPU is fine so it's the cpu for sure.
Definitely an interesting option. And if I was still running my i5 6500 I probably would consider it. But I got a great deal on a Ryzen 5 1600 AF and in comparison it doesn't seem like it would be worth it. It is newer tech and has a higher base clock but also half the L3 cache of the 1600 AF.
Thank you for considering this cpu in your reviews. I hear Tech Yes City is also about to do one. Seems to have caught up the interest of some reviewers lately. It is underrated, because most celebrity youtube reviewers gave it a thumbs down because of its launch price. But at $80-90 that it currently is available, it is hard to beat. It is the cheapest 6c/12t cpu that is also faster than a R5 2600. 11 MB cache is less; if they had given it another 8 MB L3 like the 3600, then it would have outperformed the 3600 except though, the lack of PCIE Gen 4 support. I don't think i3 10100F twins are competitors to this one, because with marginally lower cache and 2c/4t less, they cannot be more future proof than this one. I think because of the limited cache, its target usage is 60 FPS gaming, so that cache impact is minimal. Higher the res required, higher can be the accompanying GPU. So a RX 6600 XT is perfect match for 1080p, and RX 6700 XT for 1440p. I upgraded to this one from R3 1200, and frankly it is one of the best investments in recent times. Paired with a RX 6700 XT, I can get most Ubisoft AAA titles (which like 6c cpus) to work at even 1728p/ 1800p (Origins/ Odyssey/ FC5/ Wildlands/ Breakpoint) with RTSS limit set to 60 FPS. Even RDR2 works at locked 60 with 1440p. 1% figures are not as bad as it might seem, especially on DX12 or Vulkan titles. And capping the frame rate also reduces GPU power to 100-120W, which is insanely efficient!
Yes! Finally someone sees it that way. Ive upgraded from 3000G - imagine that. Paired it with a 1660s - it's been a nice experience so far. The bad/lack of reviews let me purchase this CPU only at USD60. Still in box - previous owner sold it after watchin GN reviews and decided it was a bad purchase and resold it at dirt cheap price. Snatched it and it captures my heart til this day. Nice 👍
i was looking at getting a ryzen 5 and saw this few months back but decided not to get it as it seemed to not be a good deal as its performance isn't as good as the 3600. didn't want to waste my money upgrading from a r5 1600 so the 4500 was never gonna be chosen. i ended up getting a second hand 3700x that came with the wraith prism cooler for £150 .
Please mate compare this R5 4500 to a i5 4th gen or i7 4th gen or higher cpu think i5 4690K OC'd or i7 4930K vs this cheap Ryzen 5 it would be very cool to see if the upgrade is worth it.
This seems like a good drop in upgrade for someone who perhaps for a cheap OEM with an AM4 Athlon or still has a Ryxen 1xxx low end processor and still on a right budget. This processor was marketed poorly, and the falling chip prices just put the nail in the coffin.
I bought this CPU at September. The price is $100. Worth it? Absolutely Worth it. Don't use PBO to this CPU, bad consumption power and high temperature. Manual OC totally insane performance, same Score compare to Ryzen 3600, low Consumption, low temperature and little high Clock Speed. My daily OC 4.25Ghz.
This video has showed me that people running mid-range parts should really be playing at 1440p now as chances are the CPU paired with 3050s to 3070s isn't going to be giving 1080p any benefit over 1440p in terms of fps. I also feel like the 1060 still holds up because for the most part we're still living in 2016 with the games releasing, and evidence of this is how Uncharted 4 and Battlefield 1 don't even hold up, they flatout look like they just came out, and I still don't think there's been a game to have better graphics than Red Dead 2 which is 4 years old now. Until 9th gen consoles fully take over and UE5 starts getting used, we're stuck in 2016
Something important to note. Cpu's barely care about resolution. If it can hit 100fps at 720p, it can hit around 100fps at 8k. If you are cpu bottlenecked. It won't kill you to turn up the graphics quality. When buying a cpu, focus mainly on target fps. If all you want is just 60fps, whether its 1080p or 4k a cpu like this really will be fine.
Relatively tiny 8MB L3-cache obviously kills gaming performance, it's just not enough for 6 cores. 4500 is dirt cheap now (under 100€ even in Finland) but considering all other parts (MB+DDR4) I wouldn't buy it for gaming. 5500 costs only 20€ more (w/ 16MB L3-cache but still only PCIe 3.0-support) and is slightly faster than even 3600. But nice to see a decent review of 4500 !
Fun fact, with current laptop sales you can pretty much get a gaming laptop for cheaper then a desktop pc at least mid range. That is until the gpu prices come down. Have seen ryzen 5 with rtx 3050 go for as low as 700 bucks.

People people, anything below a 6700xt 3060ti is perfectly fine on zen up to zen2, that's where the value is so don't overspend unless you its easy to afford
Fun fact: The 1060 is not the most popular card in the steam hardware survey anymore. The steam survey lumps all 1060 models into one slot while the 3060 has its desktop and laptop SKUs separated. If you add both 3060 SKUs it's actually a higher percentage than the 1060.
I'd personally rather go for the 5600G, depending on where you buy, you can get it for $30 more, you get 1 extra compute unit, and a unified cache instead of 2 smaller isolated cache pools, these 2 cache pools hurt the performance of Ryzen 3000, and with the 4000G having 1/2 the cache to begin with resulted in even more cache misses and latency. Also, the 5600G can generally hit 4933C17-17-17-28 in 1:1 with CR1 and geardown disabled. or at least 4800C18-18-18-28, where as the only Zen2 i've seen go over 4666C18 is my R7 Pro 4750G
Oh, i didnt notice you were talking about the 4500 instead of the 4600G, Yea, at the price now, i wouldnt touch the 4500 because you have to deal with all of the downsides of having an APU, without the upside of having that built in GPU, for $30-40 more, you get the 5600G, a better CPU, with a pretty good entry level GPU built in.
as menioned in the video, seems like a great way to get into gaming on the cheap, with a lower end graphics card, or a great way of upgrading an older system. I'd probably say the ideal GPU to pair with this would be something like a 1650/1660 series card, as with even low end 30 series cards (and the same would likely go for a 20 series card), the CPU then becomes the limiting factor. Something like this would be great for an upgrade to my i5-4460/16GB/960(2GB) build, but currently, the graphics card is the limit, and by upgrading that, the CPU (i5-4460) becomes the limit, and by getting a CPU like this (along with a new MB and some DDR4), all you're short of is a PSU, some storage, and a case, and you've completely built yourself a brand new PC. So it doesn't make sense to upgrade my older system when I would ultimately be building a whole new system anyway. And when I do build a new system, I'm going "no expenses spared"; think i9-13900k, 128GB DDR4 (or DDR5), 3090Ti, 1200W PSU, etc etc...
You can buy an E3 1240 v3 for your board. In games, that's going to perform very close to this CPU (if your RAM is half decent), at least if you don't have a bunch of background software loading up your 8 threads.
What's winding me up in these comments is the amount of people who are so good at spending other people's money. "just get a 5600" "the [insert cpu here] is only $40 more" If the people who are considering the 4500 had enough disposable income to spend more they probably wouldn't be looking at it. The question that should be asked is will this be a noticeable upgrade to what I already have, as my budget is xxx Or if you're build a new system, is it worth saving $40-50 elsewhere to get a more expensive cpu. Please stop assuming $40 extra is nothing.
The problem is a 3600(X) has the same cores with 2x the cache. Microcenter had a deal with a 3600 & a B450 for around $125! Basically buy a MB and get a CPU for free!
I’m building my wife’s PC with a Ryzen 5500 and a GTX 1070. Solid little build that’s only costed me about 400-500$ and later on if she needs more CPU power we’ll get a 5800x3D. It’s a great deal

I’ve seen the 5500 going for 80-95 USD a lot recently. If you don’t mind spending afew extra dollars, I think the performance uplift might be worth it. But this is by no means a terrible buy for a 6 core cpu in late 2022-early 2023,however going for a bit newer cpu will for sure give you some headroom to focus more on a gpu upgrade in the future.

@@WamblyHades R5 5500 It's better than the 3600 in most games, closer to the 5600 than the 3600 in applications, especially after tuning, less power hungry, and the 4500 is identical to the 3600 in terms of architecture, so it lacks many of the features available in the 5500, such as PBO. Also, these 3600 have been breaking down lately, so the 5500 is becoming an even better choice in my opinion.

A couple of weeks ago I built a productivity PC for a client, based around this chip. I used it because I got it on sale for a very reasonable price (about $70). It performed really well, scoring almost 10,000 in Cinebench R23, and of course the end user will not ever work it that hard.

In the Philippines its CPU-motherboard bundle is being listed at about 2,000 to 3,000 PHP (35 to 52 USD) cheaper than 10th or 12th Gen i3 and i5 bundles as well as older generation Ryzen 5 bundles at local online shopping options. So it can make sense as a cheap upgrade to people with much older i3, i5, or Ryzen 3 systems here at least. Two to three thousand PHP is no insignificant amount here, especially to budget PC builders.

Those look like CPU only prices, and I've only seen the 4500 as part of a CPU-mobo bundle. A Ryzen 5 4500 bundle is available in Lazada mall at 12,499. Contrast the Ryzen 5 3600 bundle at 15,499 and an i5 10400 bundle at 14,000+.
Shopee also has a bundle mislabeled as a Ryzen 5 4600G going for 10,600+, though it's at a Preferred shop instead of Shopee Mall.

Recently built a friends' PC base off of the 5500 (around 100 euros), this CPU is very quiet and cool even with the stock cooler, and alongside a RX 6600 it performs really good, all around an amazing cheap build for 1080p 144hz great performances.
Plus a used A520M motherboard bought for around 35 euros , which was an awesome deal

My board is an ASrock A320M-HDV and I have went from Ryzen 3 1200 to a Ryzen 5 5600.
I know this board is not the best for it but knowing it works just fine after I've updated the BIOS and seeing how much of a jump my perfomance got increased with the same board really amazes me.
I'm sure somebody coming from a first-gen Ryzen would see a lot of improvement going to a 4500.

Cool. Proudly still using my R5 2600 6 core and im happy to say it still kicks ass in 2022 and almost 2023. Been playing gotham knights which kicks pc's asses, with my 5700xt aswell and on medium settings and fsr enabled, im a damn fine robin. If i can continue to play AAA games on medium settings (sometimes high depending on the game) between 30-60 fps then im more than happy. Its been like 4 years now and id say thats good money spent.
yeah you are right mate, im using 2600 with a a320 mobo and in many games like spider man MM, spider man remastered, plague tale requiem this cpu seriously hold back my rtx 2060 super, like gpu usages not even passing 60% most of the time, i want to upgrade because i play mostly AAA story games :( all though MM running slightly better and doesn't feel any jitter when i unlock my fps otherwise in most open world games if you play unlock frame its feel like im playing 30-40 fps even playing 70-80 fps lol

Check for a Zen 3 Bios upgrade, if one's available just put a zen3 chip in and have done with it. I used to have an R7 1700 on a B450 and that was holding back my 2060S so I bought an R5 5500 for £111 in summer (the 5600 was £189 at the time so not really worth it to me) and it freshened up my build nicely, frame times are better and random stutters fewer.
Same R5 2600 with 32GB RAM, B450 mobo and an AMD RX 6600 8GB GPU, just upgraded from a 6GB 1060. Perfect for 1080p gaming however I think the R5 2600 will be going next year in favour of a 3700x/5700x

Just bought a Ryzen 5 5600G and a motherboard for about $250 through Amazon. The CPU was just $120, less than half of what I paid for a 7700K some years back. AMD's been killing it these past few years. Awesome vid keep it up!

Raytracing is not an important metric when looking for a GPU. The adoptability of RT is so slow and the computing power needs to be that of enthusiast grade hardware. Even the lower class RTX cards suck at raytracing so stop spreading this crap around to deter people from buying a RX 6K series GPU.
Drivers with the RX 6K series are also super stable. If you want to grab a Radeon card then there’s nothing stopping you aside from the Nvidia fanboys telling you fallacies that were born almost a decade ago.

@@itstheweirdguy while this is true for high end gpus, it's almost never the case for the RX 6600. The card is not powerful enough to be bottlenecked by PCI-E 3.0

There's a 6600XT Pcie scaling review over at Techpowerup, and it scales just like a 3080 does, i.e even at Pcie 2 is retains the vast majority of its potential, and the difference between Pcie 3 and 4 is virtually nonexistent. I still would advise going for the 5500 or 5600 if possible, but yeah Pcie 3/4 considerations are still not a problem outside of the 6400/6500XT.

This CPU is 85 euros new here in Belgium, while the 3600 can be found for 95 both including shipping. Considering you get PCIe 4.0 and generally slightly better performance with the 3600, it seems like the better choice in this market.
Great little budget CPU I'm using for all my sub £500 builds at the moment! £75 at CCL as I write this! Yes, there's limitations but hay just slap a 5600x or something in down the line and happy days! Great video as always 😁

Interestingly, in Poland this one is now just a little bit cheaper now than Ryzen 5500, which is not amazing (mostly on par with the old Ryzen 3600), but with the price drops also became one of the most attractive low-budget CPUs. I'd probably go for 5500 building a budget AM4 rig right now, the higher clocks and extra 8 MB of cache memory should give it a lot more longevity/some limited upgrade potential.

@@werwito6723 Składałem 3600x z 2 lata temu i walił bluescreeny przy obciążeniu wszystkich 12 wątków w losowych odstępach czasu. Po nieznacznym obniżeniu prędkości RAM ( poniżej stockowych ) odzyskał 100% stabilność. Ram był dobry, sprawdzony w innym sprzęcie AMD. Także jestem gotów uwierzyć w felerność Zen2. Kumpel ma 3600 od ponad roku i śmiga bez problemu za to.
It seemed silly for this video to compare it to an Intel CPU. The thing I wanted to know was how it compares to say the RYZEN 2700 and 3600 which are either an option or you might be upgrading from.

At launch for MSRP the CPU wasn't very appealing. I managed to snag one with the Uncharted Collection for $70 for a budget PC build for a cousin from my local microcenter.
Managed to piece together a respectable entry level PC build with a $60 B450 board, $40 16GB of DDR4-3200, $100 Used 1660ti, $35 EVGA PSU, $50 1TB NVME SSD, and $40 mATX case.
Yes the 5600 and the 5500 are better but if you're within a limited budget, this will work absolutely fine. Just pair it with a lower end GPU.
Also, don't forget you do still have an upgrade path on AM4 with this CPU. Can easily get close to what you paid MSRP for it on eBay down the line to upgrade to a 5700x or something if you absolutely need it.
Got one of these just this week for around $95. Really capable for the price. Performance gains have been fairly marginal in everyday stuff, but some CPU-bound games have almost doubled in framerate compared to my old Ryzen 5 1600.
This is definitely a video I needed at the moment. I run a 1060 6Gb with a Ryzen 3 1200 and if it was cool the first years in 2017 to 2019, some games started to struggle on the CPU side and made games a lot harder to run. In the meantime, I got interested in 3D, Unreal Engine and some other productivity app and 4 cores 4 threads aren't enough to run smoothly. I was looking for a cheap but decent performance CPU to get on the same motherboard and Ryzen 4500 and 5500 caught my attention. I was wondering if the 4500 would be a better choice over 5500 and it seems true.

You should just get the 5700X what are you doing!!! It had a black friday deal.
Stretch it too the 5600 as the extra cpu cache & clock speed will help in the tasks you are doing for a fairly cheap price without swapping platform entirely.
Even if you pick up a used gpu say 1.5 years from now like a 3080 it will perform well as is.
The 5500 is significantly better and usually only 10-20€ more expensive in Europe right now. In the US, it's different still - but $80-100 for a 5500 on sale will easily beat a $65-75 4500 in price/performance. Especially because you can easily undervolt 5th gen with Curve Optimizer and get full 4450Mhz all core in games.

I always enjoy seeing the lower end parts get covered, since most reviewers wrote off the 4500 as "junk" pretty much immediately at launch. Still, while it might not be the best 6-core you can buy or the best value to some, it has its place in the PC world. It's far from the worst CPU out there if you can find it even cheaper than its current msrp, or better yet as part of some deal with a decent AM4 board if you're building for the first time.
The price was wrong. Now at £76 new from CCL the price is fine as long as it's a decent CPU.

Around what a used 3600/3600x "should" cost, but naturally new is better than used since some people abuse the hell out of them with improper OC (too much voltage, poor heatsink, etc). However, those CPUs offer PCIe gen 4 (which helps in some instances, like with the 6500xt) and 32mb L3 cache vs 8mb on the 4500. But I understand why it's like that. It was intended to be a 4600h if I had to guess. But the iGPU likely had poor yields so they removed it from the die, put it on the substrate they use for AM4 chips, and upped the TDP from 35-45w to 65w to make it a desktop CPU.
I have this little guy on my pc, it was cheaper than the 5500, around 150 BRL cheaper, and the benchmarks that I watched only called for 3 fps difference, which I didn't care. But it performs amazingly for me, and even with a 3060ti, the little guy pushed through

Was going to go for this CPU but the Ryzen 5 5500 is only $10 more at Microcenter. On top of the $25 off coupon I got from submitting my build to Microcenter, I can get the 5500 for $64.99.

I've done a build for a friend of mine with a 15 years old pc, who couldn't afford an upgrade to a more modern PC. I've managed to scrape a system with leftovers: a Ryzen 5 4500, an RX 580 8GB, 16 GB DDR4 3200MHZ and a decent nVME. He's able to play any game with decent details in 1080p and the processor is holding up nicely to the challenge with no issues whatsoever. For the price and the allotted budget it was a very pleasant discovery and he's very satisfied with it. And he's still able to do some upgrade with no effort.
pairing these with a nice b450 board like the gigabyte ultra durable b450 wifi & 16gb of some cheap teamgroup ram is undefeated. Built a ton of builds using this chip with some slightly used rx 5700's (ebay in the states has these for DIRT cheap) and was able to build a beautiful gaming rig for under 600$ And the best part is the am4 platform still has a ton to offer in terms of upgrading if you go with a budget chip. Now is such a good time to build a amd ddr4 setup for the cheap even got a fully addresable RGB case from montech with great airflow.
The fact this is one of 2 videos I've seen even acknowledge this CPU is kinda fascinating in its own way
But on the 4500, as a owner of this very chip, for a budget 1080p 60 fps rig, I'd be pressed to recommend elsewhat for this hypothetical rig (altho if a RTX 30 or even 40 series card is even in consideration, then why is this your starting point?)
Basically, if you can keep your expectations in check, I'd be lying if I'd say I wouldn't recommend this, especially for a first build
I just bought this at ₹ 8400 ($103) replacing my old R5 2400G (which I built a PC around this and A320 for my brother). Some people are comparing this to i3 12100F ( $120 + expensive Motherboard) which doesn't make any sense.
It's a good CPU if we consider the price of MoBo too.
I swear if you listen to the average PC/gaming youtuber, you'd think half of the CPU's and GPU's on the market run Pacman at 20 FPS and are crimes against humanity. But then when you check the benchmarks they're actually pretty good. Notably flawed, but still pretty good for normal people who don't spend 3000 USD on a PC.
For most normal people, 1080p High-Ultra at 100 FPS is already a great experience. The question is at what price is it worth it. And the answer to that will depend on your country and local market. Only TH-camrs like RandomGaminginHD and LowSpecGamer understand this.
The Ryzen 5 4500 didn't see a worldwide release, I believe it was an OEM only SKU in Australia and you couldn't buy it in retail boxed form. If you're in Australia, right now on Amazon USA it's priced at AU$135.01 / US$90 / £75, which isn't great value.
On the other hand there is plenty of stock of the older Ryzen 5 3600, and it was being cleared out for as little as $111 on Singles Day (equivalent to £62 Pounds or US$75). The Ryzen 5 5600G is however is priced just a little more and it outperforms the Ryzen 3600 by a fair margin so that's also a strong choice for anyone that's building a PC and also wants integrated graphics to go with it.
Just beware that both the G series processors and the Ryzen 5 5500 doesn't have PCIE 4.0 support.
6:17 I was able to get mine for $80. And along side it, got a GTX980 4gb for 50 bucks!! And let me tell you, its a lot better than my previous specs that consisted of an Anthlon X4950, and a GT1030 2gb ddr5. Thanks for making this vid btw, it helped me alot deciding what cpu to pick to replace my x4950 while also staying on a tight budget.
Just picked up this exact CPU for $80us shipped to my door, paired it with an Aorus b450 motherboard for a grand total of $175us and I'm very happy with the performance. That being said I am upgrading from a Ryzen 3 2200 so..

I think the 4600G makes a good case for itself as well because someone on a budget could get away without a Graphics card for a while.... Just have to be careful with the Bios on used A320 boards as some of them are still on their original Bios so you could end up with a no boot situation unless you have a 2600 or 3600 or similar to flash the Bios and in some cases even a 3600 won't boot if the Bios is too old.
The problem for this CPU is a bigger brother, the 5500 or the 5600 depending on budget. With a 5500 being near $100 USD it's hard to go less on money when the benefits are so large going up to a 5500, and for those with the extra $25, going up to $125 is the 5600.
Getting Zen 3 and finding a B550 for around $100 USD is just a FAR better buy. It also allows for a more realistic upgrade being on a B550 to step up to the 5800X3D. So, if you get decent CL16 3200 memory, something like 16-18-18-38, you're doing well for the 5500 or 5600 and if you ever upgrade to the 5800X3D, that memory gives about the same results as 3600 memory. So, spending a little more to get something like the Gigabyte B550M Ultra Durable which includes 2 NVMe ports for around $100 USD gives you an ideal setup for that future upgrade to the 5800X3D and THAT system will game for the next decade because of how good it is. It can give near 100% uplifts over Zen+ for gaming. That kind of uplift in 2 generations is unheard of.
The 5600 is a beast at $125, great value with some cheap memory and AM4 board. Where I live $160 is currently the cheapest, but still well worth it imo.

I think you should have compared to another AMD 6 core like a 5500. Games respond differently to different architecture. Also I question whether you had resizeable bar turned off for the intel.
At least here in the US, we can pick up a 5500 for like $90 and a 5600 for $120 on Amazon. The 4500 is decent, but definitely better options out there
If a friend asked me to build him or her a general use PC that can occasionally run most games at a playable level, I'd very likely use an R5 4500, included cooler, an A320 board, 16GB of 3200 CL16, a 1TB SATA SSD, an RX 6600 (gotta have at least 8GB of VRAM), a 500W PSU, and a DIY F2 case with a 24" 60-75Hz 1080p VA display. Add a basic backlit keyboard/mouse combo and a set of headphones with a mic. Install Windows 10 with an OEM key, and that friend is on the way to being a gamer. All that is brand new parts can be had for $720 US (before tax), roughly $256 more than the entry, bare bones price of Zen4 CPU, cooler, mobo, and DDR5 alone. It would sufficiently impress anyone who's never had a gaming PC at all.
Even tho i overpaid a bit last year, for the 1600af its been pretty solid so far. Definitely will upgrade to a 5600/x or 5700 eventually though.

I had the pleasure of putting a build together with one. At $139 it made no sense, at $79 its a steal. It performs similar to a 3600 minus pcie gen 4. It’s basically a 2600af.

I only play 4k with my 4500 and I´m happy with totally worth it´s price(ande the sand and water it needed to be manufactured). Also the b450 motherboards are very cheap.
For a new processor in the current market it's a solid option at $80. It also has a good upgrade path.
Bought this as a place holder but I've found no reason to change it.
Bit of a strange sounding setup, it started in a system with a 3060 and 32gb ram.
I was going to change it for a 5800x but found in my use case it was hardly breaking a sweat. So the money I saved not getting a 5800 and through the sale of my 3060 I put towards a 3090.
For me it's all about the gpu, vram and system ram. This cheap thing is controlling them like a boss, with headroom to do other things while my work is rendering.
One thing I would say if you're thinking about getting one is that it's not got much of a cache, which could cause dips if you're a gamer and the amount of pcie lanes is limited, so you'd have to keep a check on what you have plugged in. Going to 8x on your gpu isn't the end of the world but 4x will make a difference.
LOL, i'm doing the exact same thing right now. exchanging a 10 years-old i7 with a used Ryzen 5 4500 + used rtx 3090 :D.
I don't intend to do that much gaming though (mainly Machine Learning Stuff), so the GPU is the most important thing for me.
Made me build with i5 12400f & Rx6600 this October. The combo is a fucking beast. Later will try n get me hands on a 144hz monitor.

I ordered a 5500 for 87.24$ total after tax and shipping. 4500 is cool but neither offer pcie 4.0 which I don’t mind because I’m gonna try dropping it in my old crosshair vi hero. Seeing as those cores are stronger than my old 1700x.. and I’ll drop my 1700x in some little mini build. Hope what I read online with the bios updates supporting that chip on that board actually working would be awesome
I bought a 5500 in the summer to update my 1700(non x) in my B450 Thawk max pcb and it has improved my frame timings and reduced random stutters, to me that's at least as important as FPS uplift.

I have an i7 3820 and even it is still perfectly fine. 1080p max settings or even 1440p low to medium.
My 5600x's pcie controller has died so I have bought this as a temporary processor while I wait to buy a better one. At the moment I can't even use the 16x pcie slot as it's controlled by the CPU. I've already replaced the motherboard and confirmed the GPU is fine so it's the cpu for sure.
I considered this very upgrade for my 2600k, elected on ordering a 3600 off ebay in the end. Supposed to be coming today or tomorrow in fact!
Definitely an interesting option. And if I was still running my i5 6500 I probably would consider it. But I got a great deal on a Ryzen 5 1600 AF and in comparison it doesn't seem like it would be worth it.
It is newer tech and has a higher base clock but also half the L3 cache of the 1600 AF.
Here in Australia there are massive sales on 5000 series Ryzen. A 5900x is $579 down from $899, that is nuts.
I've used an 1800x for a few years, then recently aquired an R7 5700x, It was like day and night diference, Crazy How my 6600xt performed Max out 🤯

Thank you for considering this cpu in your reviews. I hear Tech Yes City is also about to do one. Seems to have caught up the interest of some reviewers lately. It is underrated, because most celebrity youtube reviewers gave it a thumbs down because of its launch price. But at $80-90 that it currently is available, it is hard to beat. It is the cheapest 6c/12t cpu that is also faster than a R5 2600. 11 MB cache is less; if they had given it another 8 MB L3 like the 3600, then it would have outperformed the 3600 except though, the lack of PCIE Gen 4 support. I don't think i3 10100F twins are competitors to this one, because with marginally lower cache and 2c/4t less, they cannot be more future proof than this one.
I think because of the limited cache, its target usage is 60 FPS gaming, so that cache impact is minimal. Higher the res required, higher can be the accompanying GPU. So a RX 6600 XT is perfect match for 1080p, and RX 6700 XT for 1440p.
I upgraded to this one from R3 1200, and frankly it is one of the best investments in recent times. Paired with a RX 6700 XT, I can get most Ubisoft AAA titles (which like 6c cpus) to work at even 1728p/ 1800p (Origins/ Odyssey/ FC5/ Wildlands/ Breakpoint) with RTSS limit set to 60 FPS. Even RDR2 works at locked 60 with 1440p. 1% figures are not as bad as it might seem, especially on DX12 or Vulkan titles. And capping the frame rate also reduces GPU power to 100-120W, which is insanely efficient!

Got me a 5500 for 88€ , this was at 72€ in Black Friday price. Solid upgrade to a 1600-2700 users.
i was looking at getting a ryzen 5 and saw this few months back but decided not to get it as it seemed to not be a good deal as its performance isn't as good as the 3600. didn't want to waste my money upgrading from a r5 1600 so the 4500 was never gonna be chosen. i ended up getting a second hand 3700x that came with the wraith prism cooler for £150 .
Still running my 3600 from 2020 and I can't believe how much i got it for! What a steal. Still running like a champ

This exactly why I got this as a cheap bandaid upgrade from an old i5 4690K.
This seems like a good drop in upgrade for someone who perhaps for a cheap OEM with an AM4 Athlon or still has a Ryxen 1xxx low end processor and still on a right budget.
This processor was marketed poorly, and the falling chip prices just put the nail in the coffin.
I bought this CPU at September. The price is $100. Worth it? Absolutely Worth it.
Don't use PBO to this CPU, bad consumption power and high temperature. Manual OC totally insane performance, same Score compare to Ryzen 3600, low Consumption, low temperature and little high Clock Speed. My daily OC 4.25Ghz.
I think spending a couple of bucks more on a 4600G is more worth it since it gives you a Vega iGPU in case your discrete GPU dies
This video has showed me that people running mid-range parts should really be playing at 1440p now as chances are the CPU paired with 3050s to 3070s isn't going to be giving 1080p any benefit over 1440p in terms of fps. I also feel like the 1060 still holds up because for the most part we're still living in 2016 with the games releasing, and evidence of this is how Uncharted 4 and Battlefield 1 don't even hold up, they flatout look like they just came out, and I still don't think there's been a game to have better graphics than Red Dead 2 which is 4 years old now. Until 9th gen consoles fully take over and UE5 starts getting used, we're stuck in 2016
Something important to note. Cpu's barely care about resolution. If it can hit 100fps at 720p, it can hit around 100fps at 8k. If you are cpu bottlenecked. It won't kill you to turn up the graphics quality.
When buying a cpu, focus mainly on target fps. If all you want is just 60fps, whether its 1080p or 4k a cpu like this really will be fine.
Relatively tiny 8MB L3-cache obviously kills gaming performance, it's just not enough for 6 cores. 4500 is dirt cheap now (under 100€ even in Finland) but considering all other parts (MB+DDR4) I wouldn't buy it for gaming. 5500 costs only 20€ more (w/ 16MB L3-cache but still only PCIe 3.0-support) and is slightly faster than even 3600. But nice to see a decent review of 4500 !

Fun fact, with current laptop sales you can pretty much get a gaming laptop for cheaper then a desktop pc at least mid range. That is until the gpu prices come down.
Have seen ryzen 5 with rtx 3050 go for as low as 700 bucks.
For about $30-$40 more you can get the 5600 (non X) for about $110-$120.

People people, anything below a 6700xt 3060ti is perfectly fine on zen up to zen2, that's where the value is so don't overspend unless you its easy to afford
Fun fact: The 1060 is not the most popular card in the steam hardware survey anymore. The steam survey lumps all 1060 models into one slot while the 3060 has its desktop and laptop SKUs separated. If you add both 3060 SKUs it's actually a higher percentage than the 1060.

I'd personally rather go for the 5600G, depending on where you buy, you can get it for $30 more, you get 1 extra compute unit, and a unified cache instead of 2 smaller isolated cache pools, these 2 cache pools hurt the performance of Ryzen 3000, and with the 4000G having 1/2 the cache to begin with resulted in even more cache misses and latency.
Also, the 5600G can generally hit 4933C17-17-17-28 in 1:1 with CR1 and geardown disabled. or at least 4800C18-18-18-28, where as the only Zen2 i've seen go over 4666C18 is my R7 Pro 4750G
Oh, i didnt notice you were talking about the 4500 instead of the 4600G, Yea, at the price now, i wouldnt touch the 4500 because you have to deal with all of the downsides of having an APU, without the upside of having that built in GPU, for $30-40 more, you get the 5600G, a better CPU, with a pretty good entry level GPU built in.
as menioned in the video, seems like a great way to get into gaming on the cheap, with a lower end graphics card, or a great way of upgrading an older system. I'd probably say the ideal GPU to pair with this would be something like a 1650/1660 series card, as with even low end 30 series cards (and the same would likely go for a 20 series card), the CPU then becomes the limiting factor.
Something like this would be great for an upgrade to my i5-4460/16GB/960(2GB) build, but currently, the graphics card is the limit, and by upgrading that, the CPU (i5-4460) becomes the limit, and by getting a CPU like this (along with a new MB and some DDR4), all you're short of is a PSU, some storage, and a case, and you've completely built yourself a brand new PC. So it doesn't make sense to upgrade my older system when I would ultimately be building a whole new system anyway. And when I do build a new system, I'm going "no expenses spared"; think i9-13900k, 128GB DDR4 (or DDR5), 3090Ti, 1200W PSU, etc etc...
You can buy an E3 1240 v3 for your board. In games, that's going to perform very close to this CPU (if your RAM is half decent), at least if you don't have a bunch of background software loading up your 8 threads.
Upgrade an aging sandybridge build, or a tired AM3+ fx rig…

I’m building my wife’s PC with a Ryzen 5500 and a GTX 1070. Solid little build that’s only costed me about 400-500$ and later on if she needs more CPU power we’ll get a 5800x3D. It’s a great deal

It should be noted that the 5000G series APUs are PCIe 3 4 lanes and many TechTubers usea 5600GGs for GPU comparos.
