  • Nintendo Switch No Power troubleshooting - CPU Shorted - No Fix
    Walked through the process of disassembly and how to identify shorts on the board. Final result was a shorted CPU and a no fix

    This gave me so much anxiety. When your yanking on a cap so hard that the board holder is sliding all over. Turn your temp up and air speed down.

    You see if your short is gone first before putting on a new chip. Diode mode you should put red on ground.

    u removed apu caps which are all low impedance and u cant measure them like u did. they always show as short! put them back and try the switch again. i bet it only was the pi3usb which was shorted.

    Switch CPU has low impedance on back of CPU across some capacitors. This is totally normal. and most probably not the problem.
    When you turn the unit off the CPU goes to ground to protect it.

    Try to inject a voltage like 1.5amp to any shorted component to find out which part of board/parts are getting hot. Most likely it will be faulty one which causing the short.

      Amp is current, not voltage, dude.
      Anyway, the guy is not ready.

      @@Thehustler01828 what he said is true, so it's called "Voltage Injection" and you do it to pinpoint which component is shorting under the Thermal Camera. and you inject voltage, with a specific current value, and in that case this guy said "1.5 Amps" which is true.
      so basically he is not wrong, he is true, you inject voltage to the Cap with 1.5amp current value.

    Hello i have a switch lite modded and all of sudden it doesn't boot up and i have tried charging it but of no use . I showed it to a repair shop he says its cpu is short is there any way to fix it. He says if the cpu is gone there is no way to fix it

    Those capacitors do not have a short. When you troubleshoot around the CPU always use resistance mode on your multimeter. This applies to laptops and GPUs as well. In diode mode it will always beep. You are a technicians nightmare.

      Thanks for the feedback. I agree that resistance would provide a more accurate assessment so I just checked them now and both sides registered 0.3 Ohms so I still suspect the CPU is shorted out as I would expect > 1 Ohm if the CPU wasn't shorted out.

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it Did you put back every capacitor you removed before checking?

    • @shaneperche-fixed-it
      @shaneperche-fixed-it  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@natetechr Yes, I put them all back. I have another working switch so I'll take it apart this weekend and see if I get the same behavior. Do you get a resistance on those capacitors > 0.3 Ohms on both sides?

    • @natetechr
      @natetechr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shaneperche-fixed-it Just remove the large cap next to PI3USB. Use diode mode and check if both sides are short. If so, then yes you have a dead CPU.
