I have heard a whole heck of a lot of bach, each phase has meaning and purpose but from 2:50- 3:15 has so be the most beautiful passage I have ever heard from him.
I really like the ensemble with these baroque instruments. This is by far my favourite version of this piece. It's so light and peaceful. Thank you so much!
Emi, thank you for playing, you are the best flute player I have ever heard. I stumbled upon your PVC tutorial, and the found myself here. I can not express how deeply your music moved me, and I hope to study the flute for the first time. This is the tone I would want to achieve. You play as though you are only" humming" yet such beauty comes out. There is wisdom in your playing. I hear so much good from you. Thank you.
It is a beautiful piece of Bach, I listen to it many times a day, I study Baroque flute at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory and I am a deaf musician from birth.
I truly love your sound and musicality. Because of you, I began playing the baroque flute last year because I wanted to do a Telemann piece the way it was meant to be played. I even made the pvc pipe baroque flute you had posted. I think my professor wrote about it and tagged you, which was embarrassing because my playing wasn’t that great haha.
One of my dominant thoughts when I listen to music after taking up the piano several years ago is to wonder how long it must have taken these wonderful musicians to arrive at this level of virtuosity to give us these few minutes of perfection. Gracias por vuestro trabajo.
So lovely! Usually I like the creamy sound of resin baroque flutes (surely they sound like ivory ) than the woody, rustic sound but you apply such a wide range of expression and dynamics (in service of a lovely lyrical sensibility of course, not just prowess display of “lazarevich- ego”...) that it just sounds lovely!
thank you!! so glad you liked it - I find this movement to be one of the hardest to play, and also one that is different every single time - endless options for performance. It never gets old!
Bravi! The "traversiere" or baroque flute has a unique sound, much warmer than the modern flute, and here is played with such passion and feeling that is extremely touching. Thanks for posting the video
These are the tonalities that Bach intended, and should be heard to fully enjoy his mastery of music. Using modern instruments does not properly convey what Bach meant for you to hear..IMHO. This was a lovely performance..
@@accipiterignitus5123 if it is an improvisation then they are super phenomenal!!!! Listen to the weird shaped guitar and the normal guitars interplay of lines (for example a litte after 0:17)
Hello, my name is Francisco, I live in Chile, South America, and I love the Baroque transverse flute that you use, what is the brand, the wood, can you share that information with me? I will be very grateful, I send you love and I love how you play the flute ♥️
In a few moments, as we engage in Leipzig traditions, albeit with a liberal interpretation, the touching experience allows me to immerse myself in its beauty. It's most excellently interpreted.
In my opinion, the best recording of this movement that I have heard so far. It is precisely these movements that I prefer to play and compose myself. On which edition is this recording based (Bach's original autoscript "Urtext")? I ask this about the ornaments, which differ from some of the recordings I know.
Congratulations, great performance, the flute sound is gorgeous; clearly it's a great baroque flute with a clear and powerful voice but this nice sound you pull it out. It looks like a Carlo Palanca model flute to me, but I could be wrong.
Thank you! I love this sonata as well - in this performance I am playing a Palanca flute made by Martin Wenner - but I love playing this piece on all of my instruments - it works so beautifully on both modern and baroque - really no wrong way to get to play it!
Thanks, and I agree! That is a great flute. I actually have one myself, but usually gravitate to my Beukers by Simon Polak. Have never played a modern flute, oddly. Such amazing instruments. Can't wait to get as good as you! Will keep practicing. :)
A lovely performance, however, if memory serves me the piece in e minor written during J S Bach’s tenure at the Court of Anhalt Coethen, Prince Leopold had neither Lutenist nor Guitarist in his orchestra. The Prince had a Viola Da Gamba player besides himself (he also played both harpsichord and violin, along withe orchestra, a break in court etiquette playing essentially with “servants”). Whether you call it Historically Informed Performance or Performance Practices, it’s about as musicologically correct as using continuo organs (senza harpsichord) with Lutes and/or guitars, or J S Bach Cantatas with full choirs behind the orchestra, when at most there was only eight singers at the gallery, and more often than not only four (the fact these were all male wouldn’t go over big today). So lovely performance, just neither the instrumentation as intended or performed; J S Bach in a garb slightly above a Piano playing the continuo and Boehm Flute, getting the music out to the public while a reflection of 21st century orchestra touring realities. Nothing against guitarists, I have two sons who played in groups, just That’s not to say possibly later the work was performed in Leipzig with the Collegium Musicum, however as a Lute cost as much as to maintain as keeping a horse annually (the Collegium’s musicians were college students at Leipzig’s University), and no record of any of J S Bach’s ever writing for the Baroque Guitar, I just can’t fathom the recent popularity for including both instruments for J S Bach’s chamber music. And that includes a guitarist for the 5th Brandenburg performance by another group.
Hi Tobias. In this video I play a beautiful flute made by Martin Wenner after Palanca. It is a modern copy of an older flute which I bought about 8 years old. Hope that helps!
Hello Emi, This music is so beautiful that it overwhelms me every time. I listen to it often, and the mornings a little "sorrowful" your interpretation gives me joy, happiness ... One question: what is the factor and model of your traverso?
I am spell bound. The baroque instruments have the other-worldly quality about them. thank you all for your talent and grace.
thank you!!
I think that's why I enjoy period instruments so much---they so pure, soothing, and elegant that it's surreal.
If only you could actually spell _spellbound._
I have heard this particular movement a million times already but i stay here with this perfomance for sure! Damn! It just hits different idk 😭😭😭
Emi Ferguson’s talent is truly unique. Her rendition of this Bach piece is the most sensitive interpretation I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing.

If Bach were alive today he would have signed a lifelong contract with you. This is the best flute playing I have ever witnessed.
This is absolutely phenomenal, so expressive and alive, true artistry! I love seeing all the musicians' faces, they feel the music 💓💓💓💓💓

Hearing Bach played on period instruments lets you feel exactly what Bach intended.. This is so lyrical and sensuous.. relaxing and sweet..

Edward Lacorte ruckus is amazing! I love getting to play with them and make beautiful music with them

Nice playing. Woodwind players who wave their instruments around a lot like this annoy me. Of course I can just close my eyes.
Way too much vibrato. this is not proper baroque flute playing technique.
