I hate that they did bc it was by far one of my favorites they did, along with "finding Shakespeare", also taken down for some reason. both were awesome, and while I found the "finding Shakespeare" vid downloaded on another channel, I have yet to find "on ethics" anywhere again

Its fascinating because he's using unethical means to validate ethics.

The single biggest misunderstanding in Christianity was apparently also held by Lewis:
Bibles says probably 200 times “believe and be saved”. Quite a few times “believe and be baptized for the remission of sins and be saved”.
But then in mat mark and luke, each has six occasions of “repent and be saved”. In each of the 18 “repent” cases, He or they were speaking to someone with prior strong beliefs. The words “repent of your sins”, which I hear constantly, never occur. Nor do “repent of sin”. John, the clearest and latest and most theological gospel, written by the closest disciple, does not even have the *word* repent.
    I conclude:
”Repent” is repenting from false beliefs, not from sins. ie “repent” is another way of saying “repent of your wrong beliefs” which just means “believe the gospel”, ie “believe”. Otherwise John missed a key part of salvation, about a hundred times.
Do you *ACTUALLY* believe in the death and resurrection and deity of Jesus Christ as Savior? If not, there’s the issue. Check evidence of resurrection.

How was this misunderstanding held by C.S. Lewis, when it's clear he believed in the resurrection?

@@123duelist That he didnt see “repent” as meaning repent of false beliefs and false trust / false gods. Of course we are being sanctified and sitting less, someone argue not sitting in some cases. But if we could’ve repent of our sins we wouldn’t need Jesus and his crucifixion. The Bible never says “repent of sin“. Belief is the salvation. Then Christian life begins. I’m not being critical of CS Lewis in general he’s awesome and better man than I.

@@ibperson7765 Dude, you're spreading falsehoods. Repent means to repent of all of your sins.

      2 Corinthians 12:21
Acts of the Apostles 26 :20
      Revelations 2:21
      Revelations 9:20-1
      Revelations 16:11
All contain examples of repenting "of sins." Repentance is indeed a changing of mind & heart, but "repenting" beliefs makes no sense. Beliefs are always about something, so what about what are beliefs/feelings being repented. The object of the changed beliefs and feelings _are_ the sins of a person's life, which contain both one's acts and one's thoughts against God and neighbor. It is a silly and meaningless distinction to make.
Not to mention that repentance _can't_ literally mean "believe in the Gospel," because then several lines in scripture would be rendered nonsensical. In Acts they say "Repent, then, and turn to God" and Mark says "Repent and believe the good news!" So we are supposed to think that they would bother writing "Believe in the Gospel _and also_ believe in the Gospel"? Ridiculous.

      @@RickJaeger in order
repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
“that they should repent and turn to God,
and also do works meet for repentance.”
      “repent of her fornication”
“repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils,”
So, like I said, the neither the phrase “repent of sin” nor “repent of your sin” appear in the Bible. Man is adding that. From all the example, “Repent” clearly means to change from or turn away from ______ . The word “repent” in of itself does not mean “repent of sin” anymore than “throw” means “throw the javelin”. If repent automatically meant “repent of sin” than God has sinned. So it doesnt.
