I got one of his books on audio and it was disappointing to hear an American woman reading it (not that there's anything wrong with an American accent or being a woman either)

The bible allowed slavery because the people at the time did not consider it to be immoral.
How do you reconcile that with considering the bible to be a guide for morality?

Slavery in the laws of the Old Testament was not chattel slavery as practiced in the antebellum South which, rightly, is now so repugnant to us. It is more similar to what we would call indentured servanthood where a person, in colonial days, could sell their labor for a limited period of time. Most often, indentured servants in the British colonies were working off the price of their passage to the New World. Having a limited indenture is superior to debt slavery which is common in much of the developing world and I'm afraid there are some who are illegally trapped in debt slavery in this country.

Are you suggesting that you believe there was no chattel slavery practiced by the followers of the Bible?

Did you know that the 14th amendment of the US constitution permits slavery? If convicted and imprisoned, people can be compelled to work without pay and the ability to escape. Nobody has a problem with this, because slavery is not innately evil and immoral, it is HOW slavery is done that is problematic.
