I’ve lined up here since little as a Christian. I had set me apart from modern church and my family and society but I stand still because God has shown and proven himself to me and has always been working in and thru me in an odd way the world cares not for. It’s getting harder in many ways but he is still holding me in his hand, I’m not sure why sometimes but it is his will not mine. Long suffering is a verse the modern church just skipped along with all the verses of suffering. The old testament is as relevant as the new. This world proves its blindness and silliness still everyday…….i do my best but fall short for I am not Christ just trying to run my race and finish it. Love you Lord my only real friend and father.
This sounds like a good place to ask for two ,or more to pray for my grandson who has delayed speech.I am raising him ,his mother passed away,I have been praying for years ,he was three in November.🥰
I've said a prayer
I pray for your grandson. I ask along with you for his speech to be fully in the hands of our heavenly father, that no force can delay him any longer, that the power of the holy spirit gives your grandson the break through needed, whether in his mind or tounge. In the name of Jesus I ask with you, amen

Is he talking any better now a year later?
I have had thoughts of how bad a faith man I must be when I do not perform miracles on a almost frequent basis.
I’ve also thought that if my trials bring me closer to Christ, I should regale in my trials and in fact pray FOR them. I don’t.
And what if God gives you all you ask, making you terrible embarassed for not asking better and more. There is only one way to understand God and his Will along: by loving him.
I would say, in all my lack of wisdom, is that with great faith comes great burden
The man of great faith whose prayers are answered has a greater burden than I.
I'm reminded that Peter had not the faith to continue his water walk, but also carried little burden when the rooster crowed 3 times
The prophet Jeremiah had great faith, and we can read the burdens he carried into the dry well and faith/burden relationship becomes clearer in Chapter 20
"For much wisdom, comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief" Ecclesiastes 1:18
Question, though, is the acceptance of God's will also a relief from burden?

But the more nearly our values/priorities mirror Christ's, the more spiritually mature we are, and the more effective/ useable we are to God's purpose. ("The prayer of the righteous man availeth much.")
So as mature, selfless Christians we don't just want God's will, we share it. At that point we can be confident that God will answer 'our' prayers.
It's kind of concerning how many of these comments are people saying they have the answer to Lewis' questions here. When you're at the point that you think you can easily answer the questions of a genius like CS Lewis, you might wanna stop and reevaluate. These are difficult questions, if you think you know the answers, you might be prideful.
Several people that I know have told me that their greatest fear is that their children when grown would deny the faith. I know this as they told me in the course of different instances when I have asked for prayer for my own child now grown who has it seems denied the faith. I love CS Lewis. But, this brings me unfortunately no comfort. I do, as Lewis, believe in free will. So, not blaming God, I’m still despondent. I do question the verse “children are a blessing from the Lord”. The amount of love you experience as a parent is almost unbearable when faced with the possibility of Hell as their destiny no matter how one might get there.
I would say that your concern for their well-being is good. Although it may feel like a burden, you should know that it is right to feel that way.
Speaking as a child who denied, or at least ran from the faith for a long time, I can only offer the encouragement to not give up in your prayers. If I have learned anything about prayer, it is that God answers in his time and in a way we rarely expect, and this I believe, is in order that he may receive all the glory as the undeniable source of the answer given. As long as your child has breath, keep praying. I regret the similar pain I must have put my own parents through, but now I have seen that pain turned to Joy. I'm sure this may be of little comfort. The idea of a continued need to wait when the waiting, I'm sure, has already seemed to long to bear and incredibly painful for you. I only mean to encourage your faith to keep asking God to bring your child back to him.
I am in this situation too. I have two children. Although brought up in a home with parents who believe and with Bible reading every day, the older one calls himself an athiest. The younger one believes in a fashion but has too many doubts to allow her to call herself a Christian. I know they have the right to choose. Now it seems what I can do is pray. They both know I pray for them although I don't make an issue of it and they both know that I believe strongly. My son laughs and thinks I waste my time, my daughter says she appreciates it. I've been praying for a long time. I can't do anything about how they believe so I am leaving what happens up to God and carrying on with praying. I am like the man who wanted a loaf of bread for his company in the night. I will just keep asking and asking and let God work this out.
It's not always thw parents' fault how we turn out. I'm pretty sure they feel bad enough as it is, no need to rub salt on their wounds
Ive long had a suspicion that hes coming for all of us, some of us just need another go around. For it was said "every knee will bend, every tongue shall praise". Not most knees, or most tongues. Edgar Casey has some stuff to say on the matter. Hes hard to dispute. Even the CIA used him, for his.... Talent..
John the Baptist leapt in his mother's womb,and later taught his disciples to pray in such a way that Jesus' disciples asked him to do the same for them the same way,or similar.
Pray as Jesus suggested first maybe,and follow the other,prayer encouragements of his also!😊
Lewis takes in that Christ also said that whatever we ask for that is in God's will, will be done. What we ask for must be within God's plan. The idea that God will grant anything at all that we pray for reduces God to the level of a genie in a bottle. That's why such prayers, disconnected from God's will, don't work.
James referred to it as “asking amiss”. We do this all too often.
Maybe in praying we are also discovering what Gods will for us is…
Christ's prayer for himself. To spare himself was never answered. But his prayer for others were ALWAYS answered
I need to listen to Mr. Lewis a lot more. Listen and not ask him for anything but everything at the same time. A conundrum
The simplest answer is usually the most correct. In the passages quoted, Jesus is speaking to his future apostles who would start the Church. Could it be these instructions on prayer are for the 12? We seem to lump ourselves into these admonishments and directions that Christ gives in the scriptures. We tend towards too much self-esteem as we read and equate ourselves with the 12. We, in the West, with hubris take these words as If they are written to us. It would only make sense that prayer A and prayer B would work for the apostles and not for me in 2021. Why? Because the formation of the body of Christ is more important than my grandmother being healed from cancer in 2021.

Cs Lewis is so secure in his life that he can ask these questions. Wow
With ultimate trust in God, and the understanding that the only value that comes in any form is from of God, how could you ask for anything other than God to move threw you, for your hart mind and strength to be totally aimed at him. For in this state is the only state that value can come from. The rest will follow. To humbly stumble to God with our inability to ultimately do anything let alone trust him. May God have mercy on our souls.
Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. with no comma changes the meaning somewhat. An observation I came across somewhere , not my own! I like to pray it, though
Most of the problem seems to be confusing positive verses as normative.
From there, I’d say he over-applied the idea that “this cannot possibly be referring to a general faith”. Many instances Id say it was.
Finally, some of the issue seems to be viewing us as more separate from His Spirit than we are told to be, more separate agents: He is in us praying through us working through us and we in Him.

The purpose of prayer is to get to know God; not to get things. Answered prayer is a barometer of faith. And faith is not feeling like something is God's will; it is the result of proving what is that good and perfect and acceptable will of God is. Faith is the quality and quantity of legitimate reasons for believing such and such a thing.

my dilemma
Seems the most honest and reasonable answer to these questions is that the Bible is incorrect.
I don't think the idea that a text that has been studied and scrutinised with such intensity that the Bible has, continuously throughout all the generations and civilisations it has passed through over the past 2,000 years, and still hold such a plain and obvious contradiction doesn't seem like the most reasonable answer
Still groaning and reeling yet under mirages of the Davidic restoration if Judean as Samaritan alike after the promise of a Messiah if not entirely World's on hocus-pocus medium or astroquack hopefuls, tiny band here anchored on God's, set over a Faith's journey with Lord master learning to praying like both sides of Covenant's tablet Seeking Grace's as confessing Woefully the chasms for it's crossing unlikely as bread on the table lacking but cup to drink held up by swords?!
